    The wonderous Impacted feces

It's not just the protein it's also the pain meds that can cause it and we all got a healing dose of that stuff when we had anesthesia.

    Surgery is tomorrow morning!

If you are looking for protein get some Premier Protein shakes from Amazon. They will ship to your house. Also I could not bear plain water so I got "Vitamin Water Zero"... the Rise Orange flavor was and still is the best. I hope this helps. Take care of yourself. If that redness or your pain gets any worse you call your surgeon and if he is not responsive go to the ER. If your urine gets dark go to the ER. I hope that you are feeling better, but please take care of yourself.

    Surgery is tomorrow morning!

If your pain medicine is anything other than liquid Tylenol then that is probably why you are puking. Opiate pain medicine has several side effects chief among them: nausea and vomiting. You should be taking Zofran for nausea first then liquid Tylenol for pain in that order. Scopolamine patch is a transdermal system so that you get your nausea meds even if you can't keep anything else down. And yes you need a prescription. Pain meds make me so sick I had to get that patch BEFORE they gave me any anesthesia.

Good for you!!! And congratulations on taking this big step forward in your life[emoji4]

    Pulling sensation

Completely normal. They just cut right through your abdominal wall, you know, that huge muscle that goes from your groin to your diaphragm that holds in quite a few organs. That pulling? Oh yeah, that pulling is when your guts, I mean organs start pushing on the incision. That is why I couldn't sleep on my side for like 6-8 weeks. I like to keep my guts inside my abdominal wall thank you very much. I literally would hold my hand (or preferably a pillow) over that spot to keep everything together and help it heal. You will too.

    Telling friends and coworkers

Do what you need to do to take care of yourself especially around people you cannot trust. But then just remember that we're only as sick as the secrets we keep and part of your recovery has to do with building a life that includes people who you can trust. But first you have to trust yourself. I had no problem telling anyone (except about 3 mean girls in my office--- the ringleader of which is gaining weight now). But I figured that everyone would figure it out when I suddenly dropped 100 lbs. Gaining the weight I wish I could have hidden. But losing the weight...well I'll tell anyone who will stand still long enough to listen that I've lost 88 lbs in the past 8 months. I would scream that from the rooftops. I'm proud and I hope that you too can be proud of the decision that you've made to take care of yourself.[emoji4]
  8. Try some lemon juice in your water and take it from there. Also make sure you are getting enough vitamin C. You're craving could be caused by vitamin deficiency. You might also want to try "true lemon" in your water. You can get it on amazon. Unlike artificial crystal light it's real crystallized lemon with a touch of stevia for sweetness. Good luck!

    1 day post op

Zofran phenergan and other anti nausea meds. Also if you are still on any pain meds other than liquid Tylenol they might make you extremely nauseous. Once I woke up from surgery I refused all opiate pain meds because they made me so sick to my stomach. You can also request a scopolamine patch, which lasts for about three days. Because of how sick the pain meds/anesthesia makes me, I had them put the patch on me PRIOR to surgery. Zofran that dissolves in liquid was the first thing in every morning once I was home. Just breathe and walk or pace it helps a lot. Good luck!

    Bandages

I also had the glue and my surgeon told me NOT to remove and to leave it on until it fell off 2-3 weeks out. When edges started coming loose I did have to trim with scissors as mentioned above but please resist the urge to pick.

    Any soft food ideas?

Smooshy scrambled eggs are those made with some milk. Greek yogurt (less than 5 g of sugar per serving like Dannon Light and Fit). A few spoonfuls of smashed potatoes (I like redskins and mash with the skins on for more potassium and vitamins) and I also use high protein Fairlife milk for the mashing, hummus, refried beans.
  12. Yogurt especially Greek yogurt which is high protein and has 5g sugar or less per serving is one of the very BEST things that you can eat. I was allowed to have yogurt in "full liquids" stage, so to your tummy it is very similar to a liquid. Keep doing what you are doing.

How do you guys do it?

At three weeks protein and liquids should still be your priority. Sounds like you are doing everything right. Don't forget your vitamins too:-)

    Bottlenecked!

Agreed. You are still swollen from surgery. That is why you can only sip 1 oz at a time. Take it easy. It gets better every day.

    Left shoulder and neck pain

You should not be having gas pains this far out. Left side is where your heart is. And lots of important veins and arteries in your neck. Better to be safe than sorry. Have you been taking your injections as instructed to prevent a blood clot. Yes or no be sure to be honest with your doc.

    Water Nausea

I rarely drink plain water at 8 months out. That being said Fiji water and smart water are my favorites. Vitamin Water Zero Rise Orange is THE BOMB
  19. FocusOnMeNow

    Alcohol

I started very small sips of wine at about 3 months out, about 1/2 glass at 4-5 months out, 6 months and I can have a glass or two. I could have more but I choose not to. Also be careful of "crossover addictions".
  20. I was not allowed to take pills until 9 weeks after surgery. I was counting down the days.

    Post op & work

I returned to work after two weeks to a desk job. It was tough at first as I tired easily but that just meant that I worked for 8 hours then went home instead of working the usual 10-12. First two weeks back at work were tough. Probably not really "myself" for about 8 weeks at which point I was really cooking with gas again. As soon as you get back on solid food things really improve.

    Post Op Day 3

I was on clears and then full liquids for 3 weeks. Mashed were my first food after that point. At about 3 months things normalize. At 6 months I felt as if my stomach could handle whatever I wanted albeit in a small amount. And just because I thought I could handle it though doesn't mean that I ate it. My sleeve still has a very strong preference for fresh whole healthy home cooked food. It doesn't really like processed food although it seemed to tolerate a bagel pretty well last week but I am not going to make that into a habit.

    Any Book Recommendations?

I wish I had read this book years ago but never did because I'm not a fan of the title but it's "Women Who Love Too Much". I am roughly 8 months out from surgery and had no idea how co-dependent I am/was prior to deciding on surgery. I actually have read co-dependent no more which was fabulous but WWLTM is really something I can relate to on SO many levels. Only now because I can no longer stuff my feelings with food do I really "get it." I.e. Why I have been stuffing those feelings for so long. Probably no coincidence that my last relationship was such a disaster that I gained 50 lbs in about 2 years. I never really got the connection before. I've also been reading OA literature and will probably look at the other readings that @@Inner Surfer Girl recommended.

    7 days out!

No guidelines ANYWHERE say 30g of protein a day. Of course many of us may have missed the target especially in the first week. I would go with what dr says but if shakes are too much for your tummy try isopure or other clear liquid protein[emoji6] Also first two weeks are tough but everyday gets better and better, so keep your chin up you will get there
  25. Greetings all current and prospective sleevers, I just couldn't help but sharing that after not weighing myself for a couple of days, I finally remembered to jump on the scale this morning. AND....198.4lbs :-) And that was with a flannel nightgown ON;-) I am about 7.5 months out and have now lost 88 lbs. Of course I was hoping to have lost even more by the 6 month mark, but this is a MAJOR MILESTONE for me and makes me feel like my ultimate goal really is within reach. Whether it takes me a year, 18 months, or longer I can do this! I'm positively thrilled:-)
