  1. You look fantastic. Thank you for sharing. I think something that you touched on is that we have to be honest with ourselves to get past some of that mental anxiety we have surrounding food. Again, congratulations and I would certainly call this a success!

  3. Hi Jodi. Dr. Hamad is my surgeon. I met with her yesterday for my pre-op appointment and she said that the hospital stay is typically two nights. My surgery is on March 28th, so you're the following Monday. I'm getting nervous but I'm excited. She gave me the prescriptions for my meds for after surgery. Pepcid and a gall stone preventative med along with liquid pain medication. The gall stone medication was pricey($45)! I was a bit surprised.

    Short Sleevers?

Hi everyone! I'm 5'2". I just had my pre-op appointment today and am scheduled for surgery on 3/28/16. My current weight is 292. I'm hoping to drop about 10 before surgery, at least I'm working towards that goal. My surgeon and I have not set an overall goal yet. Years ago, I was told that my lean body mass was 146 lbs. I always thought that sounded like a good number. It's outside of the BMI chart, but it feels attainable, where 115-130 doesn't sound as realistic to me. I guess we'll see. I'm certainly going to do everything in my power to get close!
  5. Hi Jodi! I had "abnormal" possibly precancerous cells. They weren't able to really say if it was something I should be concerned with so decided to move forward with the sleeve since I'll require a yearly endoscopy. Oh wow, sorry about the ulcers! I do have UPMC for insurance. I'm guessing I'll probably be required to pay up to my max out of pocket which is $1750. I changed my coverage this year for that very reason. I'll let you know as soon as I hear back! Good luck with the endoscopy! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
  6. Hi everyone. I've been around for some time, but lurked mostly. I just received notice today that I'm being submitted to insurance today. I'm having my surgery at Magee with Dr. Hamad. So far, my experience with her has been really great. I had a bit of an issue with my endo and had to change procedure from an RNY to the sleeve. At first I was concerned because I wasn't sure about the procedure, but the more I research, the happier I am that I'm making the change. I'm not really certainly how quickly my authorization will be approved. I wish working for UPMC would get me a quicker answer, but it likely doesn't! Hoping to schedule yet this month or early next month.
  7. I love this post. It really outlines the reason that I have finally decided to go forward with the RNY. just as @@Cervidae mentioned, it's a serious tool, and it wasn't until I finally started thinking about this procedure in this manner that I realized it was something I wanted to do. I've always called myself a healthy person despite my weight, but the last couple of years I've seen my blood pressure start to go up, my cholesterol slowly creep up, not to mention all the aches and pains that comes along with being 43 but are made worse by the excess weight. Don't even get me started on the sweating. I've started the process two other times in the last 3 years and I was never ready. This time around, I feel I'm finally mentally and physically ready to make this change, and follow all the rules that will make it successful for me. Lastly, the tract record and research on RNY is far greater than any other procedure out there. I think that also helped me in this decision. Good luck @@Pedro Valle-Inclan! September will be my 3rd pre-op diet month. I'm also looking at a late December/early January date.

    One heck of a year

Thank you so much for sharing. I've only recently decided to start this process. Seeing your progress truly helps me in realizing my goals are attainable. I've always had a desire to run but at my weight doing so would only damage me. Glad to see it is possible.
  9. It's probably so great to know you have great support on your side. I hope your healing well! I'm originally from MN. I always heard great things about Park Nicollet.
