  1. I have BCBS of MN. Had no issues at all getting approved. I had six months of nutrition visits, two years of weight history. They submitted and a week or so later I was approved. Keep in mind you have to go to a Blue Distinction Center or they don't cover. Closest one to me was three hours away. So worth it.
  2. My surgeon said only 3 meals, no snacking and no shakes after I get to regular foods. I'll still be drinking my shakes though. I workout so I use them before I go to the gym. 47 pounds down since pre op diet that began on 10/5, surgery was 10/12.
  3. My surgery was 10/12. I LOVE GasX strips!!!! They were a godsend!
  4. I had surgery on 10/12. I had a little pain the first few days that got better. So I stopped taking all pain meds. Now yesterday my main incision area is killing me when I go to move. I'm sure this is normal but frankly need someone to tell me that. Sorry to sound so needy just tired of this feeling and tired of sleeping on my back already. Thank you!!!!

    Approved- October 12th.

@shakiki123....I am a newbie as well...read all the time....very little posting. You and I will share a SURGIVERSAY!!! I too am excited/nervous, just counting down the days. My surgeon and surgery center is 3 hours away so I also have a nutritionist here that I am meeting with to help guide me through the pre/post op requirements as far as nutrition. I have read a TON, but feel like the post op portion doesn't always make sense to me. LOL Keep in touch!

    Jerky

@@laguerr13 oh my. I never heard of such a wonderful place. It's now on my bucket list.

    Jerky

Thank goodness! I'm a jerky-aholic. I'm not big on game meats but my hubby is. I'm glad to know I can eventually start eating it again.
  8. I have fears of my upcoming surgery that I know are just fears and no, they won't stop me from having the surgery. I just would like to know from any Type 2 diabetics.....Did you have the surgery, lose weight and still have to take insulin shots? I guess part of me is afraid that I will have the surgery, not lose a lot of weight and still be on insulin shots all the time. I am on a TON of insulin each day that is barely keeping my blood sugar in control and am hoping the surgery helps at least to where I can only have to take oral meds. thanks for your answers!
  9. Thank you @mildredkseepers. That does help.
  10. @@POSE2VSG You can do this. Trust me if I can anyone can. I'm scheduled to have surgery in October and I quit smoking cold turkey two weeks ago. It hasn't been easy and I've slipped and had one or two but you can do it. We can do it. It is all about getting healthy Good luck!!!!
  11. OH MY!!!!!!!! I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED, I CAN HARDLY CONTAIN IT! Got my approval from BCBS of MN today...after a week and a half of waiting....then call from surgeon to schedule surgery! OCTOBER 12TH CANNOT COME SOON ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so ready for this new chapter in my life to begin! I know it will take work, etc....but for today....I am just going to bask in my happiness!
  12. Just got my date the other day after BCBS finally approved. October 12!!!!!! I cannot wait....nervous....excited....you name it. So glad I found this board to connect with all of you...it has been a great help. I have a great support system at home, but sometimes you just need someone who "really" understands what you are going through!
  13. Thanks! When is your surgery? I first saw the surgeon July 13th....also saw the nutritionist that day as well. From there, I had to see the psych dr and that was on 7/31 and then my pre-op class on the 6th of august. Submitted to insurance on the 7th, EGD on the 12th and got insurance approval today. Keep in mind that I had already been seeing a nutritionist on my own before I even decided to seek the surgical route...that helped a lot. My insurance required 6 mos (3 consecutive mos) of seeing a nutritionist. My surgeons office has been a total help in getting through all I could as quickly as I could, but if I didn't have the 6 most done...then that would have been hard for me to start over again. Thankfully, I didn't have to.
  14. OMG!!!!!!! I am so excited....but nervous.....and annoyed at the wait all at the same time. My surgical team is submitting to insurance today for approval. BCBS of MN....they said it could take up to 15 business days!!!!! OMG mean insurance companies.....don't torture us! LOL I will try..and wait patiently without going out of my mind. I just want to know....and get this thing moving on in the process. When I get approval...hopefully will schedule surgery for October. Praying that all goes smoothly. Thanks for all the support!
  15. My surgeon told me that mine will be 18 to 45 minutes. Mainly saying that it would be closer to the 18 minutes but longer depending on scar tissue from my previous gallbladder removal.

    Shots?

What are these shots after surgery I see people talking about? I have not heard anything from my surgeon about that yet? Any thoughts/advice? Thanks in advance for any comments
  17. raylene76

    Shots?

Just had a pre op class and I do have to do shots. They said it's called lovenox and I have to do one shot a day for seven days. I am on insulin so hopefully it will be similar.

    Shots?

I will definitely have to ask next appointment. I do insulin four times a day so what's a few more? Lol. I just had never heard that before. Interesting
  19. So, this is my first post after a few months of lurking....LOL. I have always been overweight (except for a year timeframe in high school where I was bullemic) and I am just DONE with it. I have type 2 diabetes and am on so much insulin that now I struggle to lose even 1/2 pound. I always thought...oh...next week I will start eating perfect and working out....then I did...and lost 5 pounds in 2 months of barely eating and working out 1 hour or more a day. So....my mother had bypass surgery when I was younger...yes...genetics at work....and I never wanted to go that route. STUPID considering she was a size 4 and has been for like 30+ years because of her surgery and maintaining those habits. Now, I have opted for the Sleeve and am in the process of getting all my referrals so that we can submit to insurance. All I have left is a nutrition class and the psych appointment. Which brings me to my question (sorry for the rambling). What should I expect in this appointment....is there a wrong answer...is there a right one? I really need this surgery and don't want that to be the one thing that stops me. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Raylene
  20. Just finished my appointment with the psych dr.....full clearance and approval from him. Now I just have a class next week then they will submit to insurance. Soooooo excited!!!!

    Fibromialgia

I have fibromyalgia as well and am waiting on insurance approval. My dr has told me getting the weight off and therefore exercising more will help with pain but it will never go away. My mom had a gastric bypass and has fibromyalgia and she is only 105 lbs and pain still there.
  22. Great. That I can handle. Did you get an approval that day or still have to wait?
