    Gas pains?

I just had my surgery last Monday, my hospital was awesome and gave me liquid gas drops even though I had brought the dissolving strips (they even let me take the bottle home). I had a fair amount of gas pain after surgery and burping but it wasn't bad at all as long as I kept up on my pain meds. I had none coming out the other end though until like day 3 and that wasn't like constant or bad lol. Walking around as much as possible did help to get it out of my system faster though while still in the hospital. My shoulder started hurting from the gas pain though around day 3 too but I was also getting used to drinking my Protein as well. I'd say it got almost non exsistant on day 6-7 until I drank something which does make me burp shortly after. It's nothing bad though and it doesn't hurt to burp for me at least, I usually don't get it too bad unless I try to *eat* too fast and since they added more things to my diet now like cream Soups, pudding, ect I do get it if I eat too much of that.
  2. Thank you both of you, I just saw my PA today (thought I was only seeing my nutritionist) for my first Post Op checkup and she said it was Thrush and wrote me a presciption.
  3. So I'm about 9 days out from my surgery and I've developed this white stripe in the middle of my tongue, anyone else have this happen? I can feel a weirdness like a film almost and of course brushing doesn't help with it at all. Is there something I should be doing to get rid of this?
  4. Still pretty new here but this forums has been super helpful for learning what to do/prepare for and help answering questions before surgery (thanks to everyone), I'm so glad I found it! So today is my surgery later this afternoon, I of course woke up with a slight headache and nausea (I'm guessing from nerves) they did give me a prescription that I'm supposed to take 3 hours before surgery so I'm guessing that will help with the nausea at least. The headache though I'm guessing won't be a problem once they give me stuff for pain after surgery. I'm a super nervous and excited ball of energy, and a thirsty one at that. The pre-op diet wasn't too bad after a couple days except when I waited to long to drink my shake or didn't grab some broth to sip. Anyway hoping I stay cool before surgery as sometimes I can get anxiety during big events, and this one is a pretty big one!

    Tomorrow's THE day!

Thank you! My surgery isn't until 3:15pm and it's going to be tough going that long with no Water, I'm still up and drinking up water and broth as much as I can right now! I think they said I can drink up until 3 am but I'll probably be going to sleep soon so I don't think I'll drink anything after 11pm.

    Tomorrow's THE day!

My surgery is tomorrow too, I've only had a C-section and one other to repair a Hernia but I'm nervous still (and excited of course too!) Good luck with yours too!
  7. Has anyone had issues with weight gain during the 90 day nutrition and getting denied? My weight has been crazy with going back and forth and I have my final visit weigh in tomorrow and know I'm 3-4lbs higher than my previous weight. Of course I had thought my previous weigh in was my final one so I didn't follow my eating plan as closely as I should have since birthday and all going on.

    Cigna Denial

Just got the call today that my surgery was approved!! I went back to my dietician for a 4th weigh in 09/29/15 had her fax my doctors office right away, went to my final surgeon visit on 09/24/15 and they added a letter of advicacy along with a procedure code and extra letter from the surgeon which was faxed to Cigna 09/28/15. I had gained some weight on the 90 day nutrition but that didn't cause any issues, my surgery date is set for October 26th so I'm really excited now!

    Cigna Denial

Hi! I'm new here but I have been on my journey to get approved for WLS since May. My Doctor's office submitted all my paperwork on 09/11/15 and I just got the call today that Cigna denied it, they said that it was denied stating I didn't complete my 90 days of supervised nutrition. I went through a registered dieticianand had my first meeting with her on 05/16/15 where we discussed healthy eating, exercise, and took my weight. She sent me a meal nutrition plan and I started on my merry way, I saw her again on 06/18/15, 07/31/15, and 08/22/15 in which we discussed the same thing and she went over what I had been eating, my exercise along with taking my weight. I figured I was ok but they are stating that the first visit didn't count and now I have to go back again after 09/16/15 for another visit. On top of that they are saying they also want the paper work from the surgeon from his final surgery counsulation visit that I have on the 24th. (As far as I knew they only needed 90 days nutrition, letter from PCP, letter from metal health provider, and letter from surgeon all recommending I was a good canidiate for surgery) so I'm not sure why they require even more from the surgeon as he already submitted his paperwork with the proposed surgery information. Anyway I'm REALLY hoping they don't deny me again once I get another weigh in done with my dietition which I have on 09/19/15, my heart really sank when I heard I was denied especially since I've already gone through all the medical clearance for surgery preperation i.e. labwork, EKG, ect. Just figured I would post my experience so far as I had called Cigna at least 3-4 times asking them if my first visit with the dietician would count and they had originally said yes.
  10. Just got the call this morning that I was approved for surgery!!! My surgery date is set for October 26th! So apparently the weight gain didn't cause issues, my paperwork was resubmitted on Monday so it was a fast response as well.
  11. Yeah it was a few lbs higher then before because I hadn't been strict with my eating since I had no idea I had to do another month. Oh good! Thank for the feedback! She said she was resubmitting my paperwork Monday so I'm hoping they come back with a quick response and approbal this time because I want to get my surgery date setup and they only have one more spot for the week of October the 12th. Not that I mind booking into the week of the 19th either but I'd rather do it sooner if possible. My Doctor said he wanted me to do a 2 week diet to shrink my liver and I think they said I might do 2-3 days at the end of liquid not sure yet though. Awesome! Thank you for the info, I can't wait for a response from them as the anticipation is killing me lol but knowing that people are still getting approved even with some weight gain puts my mind at ease quite a bit.
  12. I thought the guidelines were pretty much the same for Cigna in general minus the fact that employer could opt out, this is the one they kept reading to me when I asked for the their policy https://cignaforhcp.cigna.com/public/content/pdf/coveragePolicies/medical/mm_0051_coveragepositioncriteria_bariatric_surgery.pdf I searched through the whole thing and I didn't see anything on weight gain or loss during the 90 day nutrition, when I called several times I asked the representative as well (although they can't be 100% trusted with exact details) but she said I should try not to gain but she didn't see anything in it that stated I had to lose. I actually already had my weigh in on Saturday and I did gain 3 lbs from my last weight from water weight for certain reasons, so I guess we'll see what they say as she was supposed to be resubmitting tomorrow or the day after.
  13. I checked the requirements and I didn't see anywhere that it stated I have to lose or maintain the start weight. So hopefully it won't matter, would hate to have to start the 90 days all over again.

    Cigna Denial

I spoke with my doctors office and she told me it's best if I just do another dietician visit to ensure it's not denied again. I'm ok with it as it's only a couple days away instead of having to wait a full month or even worse starting all over again. Just a tad stressful to wait again for an answer. Your situation sounded like it was even worse, so glad to hear they approved you in the end!

    Cigna Denial

That makes me feel more optimistic that they will approve me once I go for another dietician visit then! I have it for Saturday and then my final surgeon decision appointment next week then they can submit the appeal. I would assume if there was anything else causing issues of denial they would have said. Thank you for the info!

    Cigna Denial

From May 16th it would have been over 90 days but since they didn't count that one saying it was just a consulation which I can't understand why because we went over everything that day and she documented my weight as well. Also every time I called them as well which was at least 3-4 times or more they stated my first visit would count and I told them everything that was done at it, they really need to update that if it's not true. Heck I even kept a journal showing what I ate every single day and the exercise I did. I'm still going to go to another dietician appointment because I don't want them to deny this last appeal before a peer to peer, I just wish they would say a first visit doesn't count and you need to go again right after.
