Hello! So glad that I have signed up to be apart of this great community. A little about me; I am a 45 year old divorced single mother of one daughter, she is 16 and the love of my life. I started this journey not only for myself, but to also set a better example for her.
My weight issues have been a tug-of-war struggle all of my life. I have always been successful at losing the weight; however, the main issue has been keeping it off. As I have gotten older I am now noticing that rebound weight gain not only sucks but it is very painful. Three years ago I started another weight loss journey (one of many starts over the course of my adult life); lost well over 50 pounds (yayy me!). Needless to say that victory was short lived and I am back to where I started (260 lbs). This has been the most painful weight gain of my life, not only emotionally but physically. Everything hurts! My ankles, my knees, my back and my hips!
In March of this year I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea. The thought of possibly having to sleep with a C-PAP breathing machine for the rest of my life was quite depressing. According to my pulmonary doctor, obesity and sleep apnea often go hand in hand; creating a vicious cycle. Sleep apnea can cause obesity which cause sleep apnea, and so on and so forth.
Yo yo dieting/weight loss and a diagnosis of Sleep Apnea had me feeling like I had hit a rock bottom. I kept asking myself, "I am 45 years old, do I really want to spend the next 20 years of my life gaining and losing the same 50 lbs???" Absolutely NOT!! So I talked to my primary care physician about WLS and she stated that I would be a great candidate for the Gastric Sleeve. And this how my journey to WLS began.
On April 21 I completed my initial consultation with my bariatric surgeon, Dr. Titus Duncan and as of today (June 18th) I have completed all of my clearances and my paperwork has been submitted to the insurance company for approval! (Fingers crossed!!)
UPDATE: I got a call from my surgeon's office today...I"VE BEEN APPROVED!! So excited!! Yayy me!!
