Mexico. Good. Bad. And ugly?
Gingerish replied to JapGirl's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had my surgery in Mexico with Dr. Lopez, my family was worried since i went alone. But the entire BariatricPal team was super awesome and supportive! I highly recommend it. I felt safe the entire time and got to tour the city. It was like a mini vacation. -
First Post! Kinda hesitant...
Gingerish replied to drumking88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 28 and had my surgery a few months ago! Wish I did it sooner, but hey that's life! Welcome -
don't worry bout being "stuck" you're still losing inches! (insert mad face)
Gingerish replied to pr_pitbullgrl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Girl we've all been "fat enough" to understand lol. That's why we're here and why we've had surgery. You aren't the first and won't be the last to experience this. Just take a deep breath and it will pass. -

There are a lot of different factors associated with the weight loss. How far out are you? Are you following a strict diet? Getting enough water and protein? Are you exercising? Before getting mad, step back a reevaluate what stage you are at. You will not always see a loss and stalls are very common. -
After the first week I was on my side. Hugging a small pillow helped with the uncomfortable feeling from incision sites.

How did you all set your goal weight?
Gingerish replied to melps's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I never got a "goal weight" I'm 3 months out and based off my past weights and what I think is a good weight for me is around 170 which is about 35 lbs to go. That's still considered "overweight" but I always look about 15-20 lbs lighter than I am. I'll be happy to hit that mark and anything less than that is stellar. But my own personal goal is just to hit 170 and then see what happens after that. -

I was a week or so before my first BM after surgery. -

Reintroducing Caffeine
Gingerish replied to dlappjr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I quit all caffeine for several months, but I started drinking coffee again. Granted I haven't had starbucks or anything fancy. Just regular home coffee with a small splash of creamer. I used to drink many cups a day, and now one cup takes me all morning to finish. I think with all things, moderation is key. I haven't noticed any adverse reactions or stalls in my loss from this. -
For the ladies....Was your cycle messed up after surgery?
Gingerish replied to sarah1732's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first one came early, then after that it's been pretty regular. I'm still early on but haven't had any issues. I know sudden weight loss can affect your hormones so it's pretty normal. -
Woohoo! Down one more size!

Stupid things people say when they find out you've had surgery....
Gingerish replied to Awjones28's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Reading these replies is exactly why I decided to keep my surgery a secret. (I told a handful of very close and supportive people, one handful only). I still get some snide comments from my father, and it just reconfirms that this is no one elses business but my own. -
I was self-pay after finding out my insurance didn't cover WLS. I went to Mexico and had it done (after extensive research) paid out of pocket there saved me 75% of what I would have paid staying here in the US.

NSV: People are finally starting to notice my weight loss. It's like one day I get 5 different compliments from different people telling me how great I look! Even though I still struggle "seeing" it myself, my clothes don't lie, and when other people start noticing it makes me feel on top of the world. Being referred to as "skinny" even though I'm far from it, I haven't heard that in 8+ years.

How much protein a day after surgery?
Gingerish replied to cheri02's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You'll want to talk to your NUT for their specific recommendations. But I believe average is 60-70g a day. You'll definitely need to work up to it if you just had surgery. -
Pain with diet progression?
Gingerish replied to jennolsen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe you are drinking too fast? I get that when I drink or eat too much too quickly. -
Creamer in coffee? 5 days pre op?
Gingerish replied to RGraham87's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went almost 2 months without coffee including pre-op. Then one month post on I introduced coffee back in, started back then just a tiny bit of creamer. I can't go without it, it helps me have a regular BM. -
I love isopure, not chalky tasting at all. I regularly use double chocolate, vanilla, cookies and cream (my fave), and unflavored as well.

From what I've read, I would start back in a Protein shake diet for a week or two and then go from there. Stay away from starchy and carb filled foods. Sugary drinks. You can do this, just remember why you had the surgery in the first place. Also 57 lbs is great! Don't give up too easily.

I was taking normal pills as soon as I was released. I guess each doctor is different. I just wait a while between pills and if it's a big one (like my multi-vit) I break it in half so it goes down easier.
