glad to hear it best wishes and speedy recovery

  2. If someone is a destructive force in your life, cut them out of it. It is not your duty or obligation to convince unsupportive people to stop being jerks in what is an incredibly important life-altering decision. Enlist the aid of a friend, and don't rely on your family for support.

Can men and women stay friends?

A woman is not a machine you put friendship tokens into until she decides he has paid enough to deserve sex. A nice guy whose friendship is conditional on you returning his affection IS NOT A NICE GUY. And to be honest, you're taking advantage of the situation by paying him a fraction of what a contractor would use for repairs. It's unhealthy from all sides. Cut him lose.

    Sagging tummies!

There is no magic pill. Weight training can help with definition, but won't magically shrink skin that has been stretched out due to this level of obesity. There are a few lucky ones with amazing genetics, but for the most part, loose skin and stretch marks are the price we pay for an unhealthy lifestyle. Some people get surgery, some people simply learn to love themselves regardless.

    Low pulse, anyone else

@@nprcowboy Sorry about that! I didn't read this closely enough and thought you were fresh out of surgery! I will say though that my HR can still drop below normal limits during sleep, but I was cleared and told I simply have a very efficient heart. Good luck with your tests, I wish you the best.

    Period

During periods of extreme weight loss, it is not unusual to miss a period or have other weird menstruation issues. It also happens to athletes and people with very low body weight. You can always check in with your doctor because there is a chance it could be something else, but don't freak yourself out over it.

    What Is Your Latest NSV?

I'm so happy for you, OP! I had a similar embarrassing experience at Universal studios and have never been back since (I live in Orlando, and it breaks my heart to not be able to go anywhere but plus size-friendly Disney). I'm still too big for the coasters, but not for much longer, so I hope to experience the same NSV soon!

    Low pulse, anyone else

I see this quite a bit as a nurse, and honestly, if monitoring has yielded no results as you have no other related co-morbidities, I wouldn't worry too much. 60-100 is the "normal" range, but quite a few healthy adults can dip below that during sleep or when relaxed and on pain meds. Narcotic meds lower your resting heart rate and blood pressure, so you were just riding the dilaudid high. When I had my own surgery, I went down to the upper 40s as well, but I was totally fine (Low BP and HR run in my family).

    Miserable need help!

I had the same issue after surgery. Protein shakes either make me vomit or gave me dumping syndrome. Have you tried Fairlife milk? It's ultra-filtered so the lactose and sugar are removed, and then fortified with calcium and extra protein. It's not as much protein as a shake/powder mixture, but it's the only thing I could tolerate. I either had it cold with sugar-free strawberry syrup or hot with some diet hot cocoa mix blended in. It was how I got through my first six weeks post-op without dying. It's sold at every grocery store.
  10. I wouldn't call it outright pain, but I feel real discomfort much of the time. I try to nibble all day to avoid a stomach ache, and much of the time I feel frustrated that most foods won't go down. I get nauseous thinking about food, I gag a lot, and because I have to drink very slowly, I end up dehydrated or thirsty most of the time. That "30 minutes before eating/drinking" isn't true for me. Sometimes I need to wait hours between. I'm gonna try to get b12 and Vitamin injections to keep me from getting ill, because I throw up my chewable Vitamins. pills absolutely will not stay down no matter how they are crushed (it's something I did before surgery too, just a sensitive tummy). It just blows my mind. I'm young, healthy, no co-morbidities, never get sick, I never dreamed I would be having such a difficult time with this surgery.

    In need of 3x, 26/28

I am still looking for tops... i did get two pair of 22w jeans at good will but I am still in need of 3x tops Please inbox me your address! I have some 3x good quality tops that are getting too small (mostly lane bryant stuff). No charge, I'm happy to send it to a fellow sleever!
  12. Starting to lose some as well, but my hair is already very, very thin, so it's a little disheartening. I'm 71 lbs down, but have developed a stricture and can't get dilation/treatment until January. I miss how much I could eat 1-2 months after surgery, as now I'm down to almost nothing. Even nibbling all day, I can't break 500 calories. Ugh. Thankfully, I have only vomited twice, mainly I just eat two bites of soft food or a little more in liquid, and I'm done.
  13. Thanks for sharing, ladies. I will not have medical insurance until January, but knowing they may cover the procedure helps. Until that time, I am on my own.
  14. I have a stricture, and it sucks :( I would rather lose weight slowly and be able to get something down than be trapped in this 300/day calorie hell

      BarrySue

No insurance until January, and I'm a student living on very little, so I don't have the option to get it fixed right now.

i'm sorry about the stricture - i can't imagine what it feels like - but i know its probably hurts a lot - after january will you have it "fixed?" can that be done?? - kathy

      BarrySue

Thanks proudgrammy. Yes, I will be able to get it done Jan/Feb. Just gotta learn to deal with the limitations for the next few months. I'm just young and have always been very healthy, so I never thought I'd be one of the few with complications.

    I need help

Wait the extra month! You never know what your recovery time will be. I'm young, mobile, no co-morbidities, but was out of commission for six weeks post-op. Enjoy your vacation.

    Bingeing after the sleeve

BED person here as well. Honestly, I do a lot of the following to avoid issues: I don't keep tasty food in the house, or only enough for 1-2 portions. If it's there, I'd eat it. I prefer to make daily stops. I keep busy constantly. This is the biggest help. Any idleness/boredom kills me. In addition to work and school, I volunteer. If I decide to eat something I shouldn't, I am required to call a friend first to tell them what I'm doing. Sometimes they can talk me down or encourage me to only eat a little, then throw the rest away. I haven't had an episode in the eight weeks since surgery, but I know as I heal more, the temptation will grow. I'm not going to ever talk/psychoanalyze my way out of the pleasure of binging, so I'm just trying to fill my life up and replace it with other things.

    Eating to fast.

Honestly, I'm still a fast eater as well two months out. Eating fast makes it so you don't realize you're full until there is pain, but I pre-portion my food out so that it isn't really a problem.
  18. BarrySue

    Calories per day?

Two months out, I don't break 400-500 calories. Not because I'm trying to over-diet, but because so many foods don't sit well with me. I do, however, get creative to make sure I get as much Protein as possible in. I've finally started exercising, but I'm keeping it light (15 minutes of cardio, that's it), because I don't have the caloric/nutritional support to sustain a more intense workout yet.

    Shot down

Honestly, OP: In two pages of replies, there was a single post that was rude, and a hell of a lot of support and "I hear ya, girl!" from everyone else. Don't cherry-pick for reasons to victimize yourself and decide the entire world is against you. The internet is tough; it's not always a hugbox and echo chamber, and sometimes people will be blunt. I felt that poster had good advice, but wrapped it up with a rude little bow that ultimately made it useless. And to be fair, it looked like she was responding to three posts in a row where people expressed temptation or cheating (including one where a fresh post-op patient ate lasagna and felt pain, that is dangerous). In the end, you let someone cut out part of your stomach because you're so freaking committed to making a positive change in your life. You've already done a frightening and courageous thing. And because of it, you're a hungry, red, raw nerve right now (I think we all were ), so take a breath. You're already on your way, don't let a post that get your spirits down.

I HATE exercising! What Should I do?!

I hate exercise. And as an awkward white girl with ZERO rhythm or coordination, I don't want to join any aerobic/dance groups at a gym. So I found "fat girl zumba" videos and different 10 minute dance workouts I can do in the privacy of my own home where only my dogs judge me. They get me sweating, and they don't kill me. If it gets boring, I can switch to another video/style.

    Protein Shakes

Yeah, it's how I coped with not being able to down protein drinks. Most gave me dumping syndrome, the rest gave me severe nausea. Without fairlife, I would have been hospitalized. It was the only thing I could tolerate for nearly a month.
  22. Yep, I had spasms for about 3 weeks post-op. It gets better.
  23. My scale moved right away, but I didn't feel or notice a physical difference until now. I think some of it depends on how you carry your weight. I'm a classic apple body type, so I lost weight in my neck, shoulders, and back, but little to nothing from my waist/hips.
  24. BarrySue

    No food

I am a super picky, finicky, whiny eater who hated everything already, and it only got worse after surgery. These are some of the things I do to get protein: Fairlife milk (lactose/sugar filtered out, protein/calcium added) mixed with diet hot cocoa mix or sugar free strawberry syrup String cheese Small amounts of vanilla Protein powder mixed with sugarfree vanilla pudding cottage cheese mixed with a tiny amount of tomato sauce (tastes like pasta/lasagna) plain greek yogurt mixed with sugar free strawberry syrup so it tastes more like regular strawberry yogurt rather than that bitter/sour flavor Now that I've been cleared for normal foods again, it honestly isn't changing much since I can't tolerate dense meats and Proteins. I have however bought my first pack of low-carb, high protein chips/pretzels/cereal (10g protein per pack), which I'll try and pack with me when I'm at school/work so I don't completely starve myself. It sucks when your tolerance for most things are low, you've just gotta find things that work for you.

    Please don't judge

Judge you? Never. Anyone with the courage to combat two difficult addictions at the same time is awesome in my book. Before you break down and try a cigarette, go with gum, patch, vape, anything else. Giving in doesn't mean you should throw caution to the wind and fall completely off the wagon. Whatever you ultimately choose to do, don't do it right now. Wait a day and see if it passes. Stay busy on here. Call friends. Take a walk through a local mall or park. Distract yourself. Make your decision in the morning based on thought, not pure impulse.
