I usually take some papaya enzyme and try walking, id that doesn't work, I just force myself to throw up. It's better than being in pain and miserable for hours.

I'm so frustrated. I'm 3 months post op, we went out for dinner last night because our power was out and I had a normal size portion of food I can usually tolerate, some meat, cheese and sour cream from the inside of a Chipotle soft taco. Typically I can do this with no issues. Last night I probably had a little too much and I had that stuck feeling and ended up throwing up some before bed. Felt fairly normal when I went to sleep. Woke up this morning, had a small sip of Water and that stupid stuck feeling is back. Plus I have a headache, most likely from not being able to get in all my fluids yesterday. I took some payapa and paced around the living room but ugh. I ended up calling in sick to work because I just can't see being able to work normally, interact with patients when I have this persistent stuck feeling/pain. I just need to vent some because it's so early here no one in my house is awake yet. On the other hand if anyone has experience with that stuck feeling persisting for longer than usual I'd love to hear about it.

I threw up so many times before it went away, it was awful. My son had rice in his taco and I must have accidentally grabbed some of that with the cheese and sour cream. Typically when I get that stuck feeling from overeating it happens pretty quickly, this time I didn't feel anything until quite a while after we finished eating (45 minutes to an hour) and it lasted so long. It must have been the rice swelling up in my pouch. Fortunately everything seems back to normal now, although I did take the day very slowly.

When did you feel "normal"
rnwrny replied to honeypeas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think for me some where around week 5 I started feeling more normal and stopped needing daily naps. Hang in there! You are still very new! -
That's my guess as well. I'm finally feeling some relief and I'm thinking a day of liquids sounds like the best plan.

I had a horrible headache over the weekend. Horrible. Tylenol alone did nothing so I took 2 ibuprofen. Probably the dr wouldn't like it, but I think one time is ok.

Not telling people at work...
rnwrny replied to missy5099's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I switched jobs shortly after surgery and wasn't planning on telling my new coworkers. Not that I was keeping it a secret so much, I just didn't want the attention. But we all eat lunch in a common break room and there's no where else to really go, so multiple times a week I get questioned about why am I eating so little, why are my portions so small, how do I keep my energy up, etc, etc. It drives me crazy and I've ended telling a bunch of people. So far none of them have seemed judgemental, just lots of questions. -
I'd just stick with what does sit well in your stomach for now. I've been officially cleared to try any food, still focusing on protein first of course, but it's been easiest to just stick with soft foods for the most part. Lots of tuna, chili and yogurt. Good luck, it isn't easy that's for sure!

When I was still on nights I would take extra sublingual B12 when I was feeling sleepy. It's not as big of a pick me up as caffeine but it's something.

Initially I was able to tolerate eggs and I really enjoyed them. This was from week 3 postop till about week 8 or so. And now? Forget it. I didn't change the way I prepare them, and I actually changed from the "extra large" to "large" size and I can barely eat half of one before I feel gross. I've temporarily given up one them. And chicken. And bananas.

How long in hospital and off work?
rnwrny replied to quiltermom65's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I stayed one night, went home late in the day my second day. I took 4 weeks off and I needed it all. But I'm a nurse so I'm always on my feet and moving so that makes a difference. The pain in my abs/core made it difficult to bend over and get things for 3 to 4 weeks. -
I still regret that the night before the start of my 2 week preop diet I was "good". I went put with some coworkers to a fun Mexican restaurant and got a salad. A salad! And no appetizer, no dessert! This was after not eating much during the day because I had a preop upper endoscopy scheduled that morning. I still remember one of my friends saying to me "you choose a salad for your last meal???" Lol. I lost 18 pounds during the 2 weeks before surgery, I totally could have indulged that night. Now that I know what post op life is like I wish I could go back and have a really great last meal. Not that postop has been that bad, but it's definitely different.

My son was 6 when I had the surgery. We lied to him about what exactly I had done, he knew I had surgery but we were vague about what surgery I had so that he wouldn't blab to my inlaws. He visited me in the hospital and I went home on the 2nd day, only spending one night instead of 2. I don't talk about it too much in front of him, on the rare occasion he notices I'm eating differently I just say it's what my stomach likes now. For the most part I don't think it's a huge difference between what my husband and son eat and what I eat, I just eat a lot less and usually stick with the protein portion with a bit of veggies. They get bigger portions and more sides but he doesn't pay enough attention to care. When he gets past the blabbing stage I'll probably be honest with him about the surgery.

Fairlife is great. My whole family uses it now:)

I felt that way for the first 3 to 4 weeks. I took a nap pretty much daily the first 3 weeks definitely. I went back to work at 4 weeks post op and it was a bit of a challenge at times. Now I am 2.5 months out and feel normal as far as energy level goes.

Ready to Drink Protein Shakes
rnwrny replied to Mobeans63's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like the premier chocolate and the Oh Yeah cookies and cream. The calorie count is a bit higher on the Oh Yeah shakes but the protein count is fairly high, 32 grams I think, and the cookies and cream flavor is quite tasty. My whole family, including the 7 year old, likes them. -
Once getting home from the hospital.....
rnwrny replied to Dub's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found getting out of bed while laying flat very difficult and painful. We don't have a recliner so I took pretty much every single pillow in the house and propped myself up at night. Then in the morning I could just sort of roll out of bed without having to engage my ab muscles too much. I think it was about a week, maybe 10 days, before I could sleep closer to my normal position. -
When I was about 6 weeks post op I wasn't thinking and sipped some of my son's soda at dinner when my food got a bit stuck. Ouch. I don't even miss it anymore after that feeling!

Mine was 2 weeks. I lost 18 lbs! If I remember correctly it was 4 shakes and 2 protein bars a day. My drs office uses the Bariatric Advantage brand shakes and bars, the shakes aren't too bad if you blend them with ice. And we were supposed to have a small banana every day, so I would add a frozen banana to my "breakfast shake" and it would turn out very tasty. I would probably keep up with the powdered shakes if I hadn't gotten lazy and realized the ease of the ready to drink ones:)

I had my first really stuck, stuck food today. We are on vacation and went to IHOP for breakfast, I got a cheese omelet...ouch. I eat eggs all the time at home but something about that omelet was bad for me. It was extremely painful.

Hey, how long did you take off from work after surgery?
rnwrny replied to WinchSight's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've taken 4 weeks. I might have been able to go back after 3, but certainly not before that. Shoot I'm still taking a nap every afternoon, I'm sure work won't let me do that lol. -
For my first three weeks post op I was just on liquids, so they didn't really give me a measurement, beyond getting in 64 oz of water a day. Starting week 3 I was advanced to soft foods and my serving size is supposed to be 4 tbsps, which is 1/4 cup. I think lol. It's only been a few days but that 1/4 cup has been going down very easily. I'm not sure the time frame for advancing again.
-
I haven't been hungry yet either. I'll be 2 weeks post op tomorrow. After the first week I started essentially forcing myself to do at least 2 protein shakes a day. Sometimes i have some broth but not every day. I'm mainly doing the shakes just to get some energy, otherwise I'm exhausted all the time.

I had a night where I was really bad, questioning why I had the surgery, crying that I'd never been able to eat a Twix bar again (and I don't even really like them!). My husband made me feel better with 2 questions: 1-Can I do anything about the surgery now? (Not really likely) 2-Would I rather be 300, 400, 500 lbs and eating a candy bar or close to my goal weight and enjoying that? He might have worded question #2 a little harsher but the point is made...this part is rough. I get to go from Clear liquids to full liquids on Tuesday and I can't wait. I miss eating real food at times, and I miss the taste of food at times, but eventually we will be able to do more than liquids and Protein shakes! And your pain/discomfort should be turning around soon so you will be able to do more, get out of the house easier, etc. Around day 8 post op I started feeling so much better, now I'm on day 10 with minimal pain and I can almost always pick up anything I drop on the floor, I can get out of bed without feeling like I'm breaking in half and sneezing isn't a lesson in torture anymore. It's so hard to do but just go one day at a time for now. One cup of Water, one Protein shake at a time. It's so hard and such a new way of thinking but ultimately it should be worth it.

Hi there! I had my bypass Tuesday afternoon. I've pretty much needed to nap every day which seems reasonable to me. Today however I feel extra tired. Almost dizzy at times and besides walking around the house to make my shakes I haven't had the energy to go outside and do a real walk. (Of course that could be because it's hot as anything out there today!) My husband went out for a bit, came home and was changing clothes in our bedroom for about 15 minutes before I heard him. I'm normally a light sleeper. Is this just one of those recovery things you think? I didn't get a ton of sleep last night, about 7 hours, but it just feels a bit excessive to me. But I could be getting impatient with this whole recovery process in general. Thanks for any input!
