What were your pre surgery requirements and how long did it take?
bhopeful replied to bhopeful's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Just realized I posted this in the wrong section. Is there a way to change where this is posted? -
What kind of diet or eating habits did you have before you had surgery? I am worried about whether surgery will really help me lose weight . I eat a very healthy diet currently, probably around 1300 - 1600 calories per day, no junk food at all, very few carbohydrates etc. But I have definitely not been able to lose weight with this current paleo diet and with working out and so I'm considering sleeve surgery. Were any of you healthy eaters with a healthy diet before you had surgery? If so, did surgery help you reduce the number of calories even given that they were healthy calories, enough to lose weight? I feel like with the kind of diet I eat I should be losing weight but I don't. So maybe the surgery which restricts me to around 800 - 1000 calories per day is what will be my tipping point? Any thoughts? I feel like my weight loss is really a stubborn problem and I don't feel like I have any other way to lose this weight because I have tried so many other things.

High protein, low fat and not enough veggies post sleeve surgery ?
bhopeful replied to bhopeful's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Awesome - THANKS for all the insight. I think today I made my decision to just do it and go for the surgery .... it's taken a long time and a lot of soul searching but finally decided :-) -
Thanks all.... helps to know what you all think. I am so tired of people judging me! I KNOW there are so many people that think "... all you need to do is eat less, work out more ... " "surgery is the easy way out" I am SO tired of people being uninformed. Not sure I want to be the one to inform them tho :-)

I am considering sleeve surgery probably by November this year. After a LIFETIME of trying to lose weight, the struggles, challenges, emotions, depression etc. and lots of well meaning people telling me I look OK, I should accept myself, etc. etc. etc. .... I don't know if I want to tell anyone !!! Did you tell everyone, or just some people? Were people supportive or judgmental? One of my friends was talking about someone she knew who had WLS and said she didn't understand why she took the "easy way out" !!!! made me so mad !!!!

Anemia! Surgery soon. Worried.
bhopeful replied to Jazziminna's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Did they only just find the anemia now? Wonder why your docs haven't been giving you more supplements or getting you on higher Iron foods (not that I know much about this subject but this seems like the 11th hour).??? -
Awesome reading everyone's opinions here. I just posted this exact question about half an hour ago and here the same topic pops up with lots of replies. I really feel that people judge far more than they support, generally. So I will probably keep it quiet.

Success with sleeve after band failure?
bhopeful replied to bhopeful's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Awesome lisaluvsgreys. All the best. Let us know how it goes. -
Does sleeve surgery really reduce hunger levels? I had the band for about 10 years, which was recently taken out. It didn't stop or reduce my hunger. I have spent my whole adult life trying to eat less and being hungry a lot. Wondering how many people who have the sleeve truly feel less hunger (not only restricted with amount that can be eaten)? Thanks for any help .... so good getting info from people who have been through this. I am scared after the band not working!!!! But now want the sleeve but worried about whether it will work for me?

I am desperate. I really would like advice and information from those of you who tried extensive dieting without success and then experience success with sleeve surgery. I have been on diets and restrictive eating plans for seemingly ever! I had the adjustable gastric band for about 10 years which did nothing. I eat extremely healthy foods and have been on diets with restricting grains, dairy etc. for a long time. And on average I eat around 1200 to 1600 calories per day. And I exercise a lot. But it's impossible to lose weight. Have any of you had long periods of time with moderate calories, and eating healthy without losing any weight? So, it looks like it's time for me to consider the sleeve. Have any of you had the experience of dieting with restricted calories to about the 1200 to 1600 range prior to the sleeve without weight loss, and then having the sleeve and experiencing success with weight loss? It seems that the goal for calories is around 800 calories for weight loss, with the sleeve? Is it possible to maintain good nutritional status or get all of the nutrition needed with only 800 or 1000 calories per day long term? I am just so tired of years of dieting, restriction, being hungry, watching what I am eating, and just not losing weight. There just doesn't seem to be a way that dieting can work. So maybe sleeve surgery is the only alternative. I don't feel that I over eat and I always was under the impression that surgery was for people who could not control their overeating. But maybe I am wrong. Maybe the surgery is so that it is possible to eat well under the average number of calories per day. So, just wondering how many of you were never able to lose with extensive dieting and exercise but have now lost with sleeve surgery?
