I'm afraid to eat
reree6898 replied to Seahawkgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on purée when I left the hospital and in soft a week out from surgery. I was scared too but you need nutrition from real food. Start very very slow with something easy to digest. I was scared that I'd start eating too much as well and I am now a month out and I'm still fighting to get to 600 calories a day like my NUT wants me to be at. The easiest thing for me was a slice of turkey from the deli rolled up with a slice of reduced fat cheese. -
Hope all went well for you today. The first few weeks may be rough but keep in mind it will go by quickly and you will be back to feeling more normal again soon. I was sleeved a month ago today and time has flown by.

Yep time for a new dr. I went through Vanderbilt in Nashville which is one of the best known hospitals in the world. My dr said they won't do the band unless the patient is totally not physically able to handle any other surgery. I was sleeved a month ago today and I just turned 37. My dr was fully confident that I will reach and maintain goal. -

Can't be up on my feet.....exercise ideas?
reree6898 replied to LadyReyven's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are work out videos called sit aerobics that I've heard are really good for people who can't be on their feet. -
How do you handle eating socially post op?
reree6898 replied to nyjocool's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So for the holiday family meals make a ricotta bake which is safe for the soft foods stage and is so good my whole family loves it. Then you can have an Italian meal and still be a part of prepping and eating food. -
Once I met the requirements (6 month weight program, three years weight history, etc) and my dr submitted the paperwork I was approved within a few days (like 5 I think it was). I had no other health issues just high bmi. I had also met my out of pocket for the year so my only costs were the psyc eval and then one office co pay.

I have tried both ways and just can't eat them right now.

I don't know if tolerances are different with by pass because I had sleeve but for me I can't eat meatballs still and I was sleeved almost a month ago. Also most meatballs have a good amount of breadcrumbs in them so you may want to be careful with the carbs because it may cause dumping with the bypass.

Left abdominal pain & stomach little swollen help

Going too long without a movement can cause a perforation in the bowl and cause sepsis which can be fatal. -
How long did it take you after you were approved with insurance to get a date for surgery with him?I was approved on a Thursday spoke to the schedule lady the following Monday and was set for pre op within two weeks. Then from the pre op appointment to surgery was two weeks. That is encouraging to hear!! I have my last supervised weight loss visit with my PCP, Thurs. the 29th and everything else has been done so I was hoping for a Nov./Dec. date! I've already met my deductible and everything so I would hate to have to pay all that out again!! What Ins. are you with? I'm with Cigna... BCBSTN the insurance lady from Vandy told me that most insurance companies have 15 business days to approve or deny. Mine approved within 5 business days.

If your plan covers the surgery and if you have met all the requirements once your dr submits to BCBS then they have 15 days to respond. -
I hate to throw out food so I have been just buying the smaller size options at the grocery store so that I only buy what I will use before it goes bad. Like just a few individual yogurts and just a half pound turkey from the deli, etc.

So today was my one month follow up visit with the Nut and Surgeon. It was actually just over three weeks since surgery but this was the only appt available. The dr said that I am doing well, I have lost a total of 26 lbs since pre op and 20 of that was fat! I have lost 5 inches off my waist and my blood pressure was normal and not bordering on being high like it has been for a while now! I am amazed and very thankful tonight. Oh, and for the first time in my life I was told to increase my calories a bit to lose weight better. ????

I am doing very well. I went back to work after my second week and have been fine. The big incision is still a bit sore, like a deep bruised feeling but other then that great.
-
Have you selected a dr yet?
-
Dr Spann through Vanderbilt. He was wonderful.

With surgery approaching am I really ready?
reree6898 replied to HopeandAgony's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yep, like the others have said its normal. I am a research nut and have been thinking about and researching WLS for literally years. I was still having second thoughts as I was being wheeled into the operating room. After going for a check up today and learning I have lost 20 lbs of fat, 26 total lbs, and 5 inches off my waist in the last few weeks I am glad I went through with it. -
Yep, I was not very pleasant to be around the first two weeks or so because I would cry easily and my family said I was really coming across as short tempered and irritable even though I didn't mean to. It's eased up now though.
-
I had one and wore it over my shirt for the first week and a half after getting sleeved. It helped me so much because the incision where they removed the stomach felt like it was pulling really bad and it gave so much support if I coughed, sneezed, or laughed.
-
Yep, Nashville area. What about you?
