My name is Lara. I am 47 years old. I am the youngest, and the largest, of four children. I have two adult children of my own and I've been married for 27 years. I am a teacher.
I have been researching and contemplating bariatric surgery for years. Filled out most of the paperwork one time and even had a psych evaluation. Never went any farther for several reasons but mostly because my husband convinced me that I had to be disciplined no matter what choice I made-surgery or no surgery. That motivated me and I lost 60 lbs. Eventually I gained it back, plus some.
Almost a year ago, I started to research it again. I noticed the gastric sleeve was now an option on my insurance. About 4 months ago, I persuaded my husband to attend another seminar. He felt much better about the odds of complications with the sleeve vs. the bypass. I have to admit, I did, too.
Well, here I am. I have an appointment with a psychologist next week for a psych evaluation. That's the last thing I need to proceed. I am hoping to have surgery asap in October when my flex spending account renews. Until then, I have been researching a lot about the pre and post surgery diet. I would like to start incorporating a lot more protein into my diet this summer and possibly replacing at least one meal a day with a protein shake. I am looking for the best possible tasting shake because I am fearful that I won't make it through the pre-op diet phase because I can't find a shake that I like. Any suggestions on solutions??
