Goal Size vs Goal Weight
andreajohnston replied to 2911plans's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I wrote a thing about how we let numbers determine our success and happiness...for instance age, weight, money etc. A number can always change, the person who changes that number is the success because they have the power.....some people weigh 200lbs and have lost 100lbs to get there, they aren't any less successful just because they don't weigh 130 -
SOMETIMES WHEN YOU CHANGE, PEOPLE HAVE TO CHANGE AROUND YOU....THEIR FAULTS ARE ON DISPLAY SINCE YOURE GETTING YOURS TOGETHER....MY MOM IS THE SAME WAY! PEOPLE ALL YOUR LIFE TOLD YOU, YOU NEED TO DO THIS OR THAT, BUT WHEN YOU FINALLY DO, THEY COMPLAIN....MAYBE CAUSE THEY NEVER THOUGHT YOU WOULD SUCCEED LIKE MY MOM, OR BECAUSE THEY AREN'T SUCCEEDING IN THEIR GOALS. THE TRUTH IS, TAKE CARE OF YOU FIRST. WHEN EVERYONE ELSE IS GONE, YOU STILL ARE LEFT WITH YOU. YOU DESERVE THE BEST.

From Meal to Meal
andreajohnston replied to serenity55's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I THINK IT DEPENDS ON YOUR PERSONALITY OR LEARNING STYLE....FOR EXAMPLE, I AM A STRUCTERED PERSON OUTSIDE OF EATING....I LIKE TO HAVE A PLAN OR OUTLINE TO FOLLOW WHILE LISTENING TO MY BODY...BUT THIS IS ABOUT RETRAINING YEARS OF DOING IT WRONG, NOT LISTENING TO YOUR BODY, AND NUMBING EMOTIONS WITH FOOD...SO, THAT IS A PROCESS AND WILL TAKE TIME. THE LITERAL PART OF IT, IS EASY....IT'S THE DEEPER MEANING BEHIND YOUR EATING THAT YOU HAVE TO WORK ON. -
I HAVE HAD 2 FILLS IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS....I'VE MADE IT MY GOAL TO KEEP GETTING THEM UNTIL I GET TOO TIGHT. I'M AT 3.2CC IN A 4CC BAND. I LOSE 2LBS PER WEEK WITHOUT EXERCISE, JOURNALING, OR MEASURING. I THINK IF I DID THESE THINGS, I COULD REALLY LOSE AND GET THE MOST BENEFITS FROM MY BAND. I LIKE THE FACT THAT I STAY FULL FOR 3-4 HOURS BECAUSE I COULD NEVER DO THAT ON MY OWN, BUT IF I START EXERCISING I'LL BE LOSING INCHES!

TODAY I'VE EATEN : BREAKFAST: CAN OF VIENNA WEINNES LUNCH: HALF OF CHEESBURGER AND SALAD, RASPBERRY TEA:tongue2:

Fill Amount Question; Fill Centers USA comment
andreajohnston replied to ImaKaren4U's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have a 4 cc band and have had 2 fills the first one was three years ago at 1.6 which didn't really do much except I couldn't eat bread or cake without throwing up. I'm now 2.4cc and I am able to eat smaller and stay full 3-4 hrs but I think I'm learning to deal with the head hunger.....sometimes I'll be bored and have gone 4 hrs without eating and think "I should get something to eat." Even if my stomach isn't growling. What is a good fill level for a 4 cc band? -
Is it okay to have soup (broth-based) before lunch and dinner? I think the warmth would fill you up enough so you won't eat as much for those who need a fill.

I was banded in October 2006. I had my first fill July 2006 1.6 cc in a 4cc band. I lost about 90lbs and was happy. I felt empowered over eating a little bit of food and being able to walk away for three hours without thinking about food. Then in May 2007 I had a scare with not being able to hold down water or food due to a congested cold. So, I never went back for a fill. I made appointments and canceled. I saw that my body was looser due to weight loss, and I started thinking that maybe it was better to just be fat. And then when it came time for a fill, I thought well I could use $200 for something else. I've always put other people and their happiness before my own. I've now decided that I am worth it. My motives have changed for health reasons, and to be able to live comfortably. . . like going in a store and being able to wear a size or jeans for that matter. Or going to get my hair done, and not have to worry if I'll fit in the chairs. I have been big all my life, and I feel there are signs all around that big people don't belong. I know that I would be happier at a smalller weight, but when I do reach my goal, I don't want my success to be in vain. I want to help others who struggle with the eating addiction.

Share ideas, What did you eat today ?

I was curious if anyone thinks they could eat this way without a band or fills? PolorBear Mike never had a fill and lost 100lbs on Dr.Kuri's site. I think as long as you learn to deal with in between meal times you probably could succeed. I think you would learn more about yourself and what makes you overeat and why. I think it's very empowering to only eat 1/2 cup of food and walk away. -

I've only had one fill 1.6cc in a 4cc band. I was banded October 2006.....I lost 90lb and I had a little scare with not being able to hold water down so, I never went back for another fill. I have gained all my weight back and decided the risks are worth it. I remember that I ate 1/2 cup of food protein first and four times a day.....Dr. Kuri told me to eat when I am hungry.....with the band you are very restricted so, everybody's different. Someday's you may only eat 3 times other days you may eat a snack. -
I was banded on October 24, 2006.......and I've only had one fill due to finances. I have a 4cc band.....but I've not gained weight in two years, but I haven't lost any either. I was wondering if I try to control my eating to 4 meals 1 cup per meal would I begin to lose? I don't think I could do the 1/2 yet without a fill.....maybe this would shrink my stomach enough that I could start to eat like I had a tight band?:rolleyes2:
-
My doctor does the three meal a day thing also, but she says, it's probably healthier to divide it up into six meals......

WOW.....that is amazing....I have a long way to go, but I've lost 80lbs so far.....I was banded October 2007 in Tijuana, Mexico by Dr. Kuri and have had great success without complications, but I've only had one fill 1.6cc of a 4cc band.....I've been putting it off....but I've decided I'm worth it....and have an appointment in August....thanks for your inspiration.

Question regarding amounts? Please help!
andreajohnston replied to slinkymalinky's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
So, we're supposed to be eating only a 1/4 cup.....I thought it was a 1/2 cup.....my doctor...DR. KURI from Tijuana, Mexico....suggests to eat and stop when you are satisfied....do not measure....that's what the band is for to be our guide.....to tell us when we are full or hungry....something my body failed along time ago.... -
I agree that "low-carb" is is great for many reasons and has great advantages...not only for banders, but for people with diabetes and for overall energy....when you eat too many starches, I feel it weighs you down, even if it's a healthy starch i.e. corn, potatoes....So, I was wondering is it really the way to go if you need to lose weight? I was banded October 2007 and have lost 80lb and since gained 13...and recently lost 3 of the 10lb....and I've only been filled to 1.6cc from a 4cc band....and I won't be getting my fill until August....so, I was wondering in between fills, would the "low-carb" way be a good way to lose?
-
I knew that having the band would be a transition in a good way to my journey, but when I went from eating 3000 calories a day to almost 1000, I felt a since of pride and accomplishment, but I also felt this amazing power....to not be hungry after 2 hours of eating 1/2 cup and to only eat a half of anything has been a big change for me....I could have never done that before....I've was banded on October 2007 and I've lost 70lbs and I've only had one fill....but now I feel that my power has slipped away because I need to get another fill....I'm going in April....but I have slowed my own process down due to emotional issues...the fact that I am getting closer to my goal and that means I will have more attention....and I'm not sure I know how to handle that, but It's what I've wanted all along.

Dr Kuri Patients Weigh In...
andreajohnston replied to FLMan's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I am a doctor Kuri patient. I had the fortunate pleasure of being banned in October 2007. I have since lost 70lb and I've only had one fill with Dr. Maese in Dallas. I had no complications with my surgery and Dr. Kuri is wonderful. He's not only experienced in what he does......he's compassionate and cares about his patients. Best of luck with your surgery and success.
