  1. Anyone in the Philadelphia area here, either pre or post op?
  2. I just had my surgery yesterday. I'm so uncomfortable and wondering if I made a mistake of epic proportions. I could use some reassurance right now if anyone can help. Thank you!!
  3. They say to drink more water to dilute the concentration of ketones...because ya know, you're not drinking nearly enough water already (yeah right????). You can also chew on some parsley...awesome right?! LOL I think it's safe to say that we ALL have ketosis breath. If it's not one thing it's another...I guess I'd rather have dragon breath than my current large self. I'm sure if you hang with other VSG survivors they won't even notice????. Good luck!
  4. It could be Ketosis breath from the lack of carbs...

    Philadelphia area?

Me too lauraellen80! Where did u have your surgery?
  7. So, 3 days out and I'm feeling less discomfort as far as gas and weird pains go (yay!!) I've been walking and getting around great (even went to the mall to walk...and of course, shop????). However, I'm convinced that the surgery was not actually performed (yes, I'm being sarcastic). I still feel extremely hungry. I hear so many people say that they had to force themselves to eat...uh, not me. The feeling of hunger is so strong it is distracting and uncomfortable. It doesn't help that every blessed commercial on TV is advertising delicious and carb-riddled foods. Has anyone else experienced this? Will this go away?

    Ups and downs...

Thank you Tauni!!! That's very helpful and reassuring information! I'm glad you're doing well!????
  10. I was sleeved on 6/24...I had a moderate amount of pain after the surgery (in recovery room) which was quickly treated with dilaudid, and I felt much better. I was given the dilaudid every 2.5 hours all that day and through to the next morning. At that point. I wanted to try going without pain meds, which I did for about 7 hours, and I started to have some mild discomfort (mostly from gas). They gave me Vicodin (but I think that extra strength Tylenol would have been sufficient). This is my long way of saying that it is possible to get through this with short-lived pain. As everyone pretty much summed up above, everyone has different pain thresholds, but the medical professionals WILL take care of you. Good luck!

    Ups and downs...

My doctor put me on omeprazole...I'm wondering if this is not doing the trick. I know my mother said it doesn't work for her (and she is not a bariatric patient). I should discuss this with the doc when I go on July 2

    Ups and downs...

Maybe it is head hunger...I feel like my stomach is growling too, causing me to feel even hungrier. BUT, maybe my brain is making all this mess happen...ugh!! Very frustrating...
  14. The pain I have been experiencing is in the center of my chest, right between my breasts.I am trying to sip water but it feels like battery acid once I get it down to that area of my chest. Is this normal? About when can I see some relief with this?
  15. Thank you...I just did laps around my house and that DID relieve the discomfort! Thank you sleeve friends!

    Stomach growling

I am experiencing the SAME thing...ugh, it's awful!
  17. Thank you guys! You are inspiring & supportive...????
  18. Thanks for the tip (gasx strips). Also, thanks for responding!
  19. I'm glad yours went well...great to hear. Thanks for sharing!
  20. I have to do 5 days of 3 protein shakes a day with unlimited vegetables and only one serving of fresh fruit, then 2 days of 3 shakes a day ONLY (then I get sleeved the next morning). I have been doing a shake in the am, then loading up on water to make it to lunch. Then for lunch I have a shake with mixed veggies (antioxidant blend by Green Giant is delicious), which I put low sodium soy sauce on (this helps). Dinner I have a shake with cucumbers and salsa or green peppers and salsa, and a kiwi (or whatever other fruit). I know this wasn't much info...but that's all I've got. All I can say is that I'm almost done with day 3, and it's not easy. I get hungry but I drink water and try to keep myself busy. Good luck with it....WE CAN DO THIS!!!

    I'm going in!

    Good luck!!????
  22. It just doesn't seem real that I could possibly not be hungry after the surgery...I believe it, but I can't relate yet. I hope I'm able to laugh at these pre-op days in the future....I'm sure not laughing now (I don't have the energy to, ha ha). Thank you for your positive words!????
  23. I'm doing the 3 protein shakes for meals and adding in veggies here and there (with the heavenly serving of fruit of course), but I'm almost in pain from the hunger. It keeps me awake at night and I feel "zombie-like" and starving through the day. I'm not a big veggie eater to begin with, so the "unlimited veggies" was not exactly the silver lining.???? Is anyone else feeling this way? Any suggestions??
  24. I haven't had the surgery yet and I'm already feeling this way...that's what scares me! I'm not taking an antacid...good to know. Thanks guys!
