Welcome.

Health insurance companies have their rules for surgery. It is something they require for approval. We've all had to follow those rules unless we are self-pay. Use the 3 months to research and prep. It doesn't hurt. Good luck.

Just missed the BMI of 40
Tobeornottobe replied to gibsonsmom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have Cigna and was approved with a BMI of 35 with co-morbidities. If you're under a 40 BMI, Cigna requires at least one co-morbidity and hypertension is a co-morbidity that qualifies. By the way be careful with the 90 days. As far as the medical management part, I wanted to be very careful so I did 100 days to be sure. I've seen people get denied over the time thing and have to start all over. In the meantime, I would advise you to start all the required testing. Good luck. -
Bezoars--hair balls?
Tobeornottobe replied to kjt1994's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I personally had never heard of this before so I googled the term. Unless you are eating hair it would see that you have nothing to worry about. -
Workout routine
Tobeornottobe replied to Chelle Bean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually working the legs will diminish the appearance of cellulite. It won't go away completely as its mostly genetic. Creams etc do not work but those companies will happily take your money. A healthy diet and exercise are the way to go. Good luck! -
Maybe add some probiotics. They help with healthy gut bacteria.

The Best and the Worst: Your Weight Loss Surgery MEDICAL SERVICE Experience
Tobeornottobe replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I felt strong enough. I didn't push myself too hard and only started back to lifting weights this week. My doc saw no harm as long as I was careful. I was also told no weight over ten pounds and no ab work. I have been doing high rep low weight so nothing over ten pounds. I may be a little nuts lol -
Lettuce does offer some nutrients. This food is low in Saturated Fat and Sodium, and very low in Cholesterol. It is also a good source of Riboflavin, Vitamin B6, Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphorus and Copper, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Thiamin, Folate, Iron, Potassium and Manganese.

Sisters's "Concerned" Speech! LOL
Tobeornottobe replied to Proud2BMe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
First, congrats on your weight loss. Second, she may be genuinely concerned. When our loved ones are used to seeing us a certain size and we start losing, we may indeed look sickly to them. I guess it can also be a bit of jealousy as well since you said she needs to lose weight. Maybe you can use this as a opportunity to bring it up to her. Again, congrats!!! -
The Best and the Worst: Your Weight Loss Surgery MEDICAL SERVICE Experience
Tobeornottobe replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My worst experiences would have to be with the bariatric coordinator at the office. She would not return phone calls or emails and if you were able to catch her, she acted like it was a HUGE bother to answer your questions. I finally got fed up enough to threaten to report her to the office manager. Things got a bit better after that. When I was in the hospital waiting, my surgery was delayed and no one informed me as to what was going on. I finally lost it on one of the nurses who apologized profusely. The anesthesiologist was a bit of an ass who did not acknowledge my presence. The nurses were pretty great except one. I was in extreme pain and it was past the time for my pain meds. I called and she told me she would be back in 5 minutes. Thirty minutes later, she still wasn't back. I ended up getting a new nurse for the duration of the shift. The best: the surgeon did an amazing job. I had minimal pain from gas (walking as soon as I was able after surgery and as often as possible) and minimal pain from the incisions. I have not had any issues with throwing up. I was back to exercising and back to work within a week. I would deem it a success. Please note: I'm only a month out. The most annoying the On-Q pump which i was grateful for in hindsight and the Lovenox shots (needle phobic). -
Help! Does anyone have Capitol Blue Cross PPO?

That's such crap. They can give you that information. I hate when insurance companies play silly games. Good luck! -
Help! Does anyone have Capitol Blue Cross PPO?
Tobeornottobe replied to keltokel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you called them? They can usually email you the policy. You wouldn't necessarily have to start over but if the requirement with the new insurance is 6 months, you will have to do the additional 3 months. I did a quick search and found this: https://www.capbluecross.com/wps/wcm/connect/8c81d245-cf36-42fc-bee7-a19a9a2cf2f8/Bariatric_Surgery_11-2-15.pdf?MOD=AJPERES I would still call to confirm this is correct. Good luck! -
Not going down easy!
Tobeornottobe replied to Mamapanda2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did. Except I would describe it more like spasms. I did call my doctor's office and I was told it was part of the healing process and if it was unbearable to head to the hospital. Mind you, I had the spasms from day 1 so even drinking Water and Protein shakes triggered it. It went away in 2/3 weeks. Good luck. -
What’s Your Attitude Towards Carbs?

Carbs are necessary for energy. Like everything, it all works in moderation. -
Pod4 and still very full of GAS!
Tobeornottobe replied to juno5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you walking? I found that walking helped immensely with gas pain. As far as no BM, you are 6 days out of surgery so I'm guessing you're on a liquid diet. Be patient, it will happen. If you're worried contact your doctor's office. Good luck! -
Husband not supportive
Tobeornottobe replied to christina Abdo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That sucks that your spouse isn't supportive. I didn't have that problem. My S.O. was extremely supportive, went to every appointment with me and sat in the hospital with me although I told him to go home and the doctor would call him. Maybe you can invite him to attend a seminar with you. It could be motivated by fear. Fear of the unknown is scary for most people. -
International Travels - Fears and Concerns
Tobeornottobe replied to Indieflickers's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
The portions in Europe are generally smaller than American portions. The quality of ingredients and the food are generally better as well. I don't think you really have much to worry about. Relax and enjoy your trip. -
Yes, your supervised diet can be with your PCP.

Can you lift weights
Tobeornottobe replied to Shawn722's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was told nothing over 10lbs and no abdominal work for at least 6 weeks. My 6 weeks will be next week so hoping to resume heavier weights at that point. -
Lump in throat. Uncomfortable!
Tobeornottobe replied to hpvsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had this same issues. It lasted about 2.5 weeks. I'm a month out and don't really have the issue anymore. Sometimes in the early mornings when I drink Water I may get a spasm but after that I'm fine. Good luck. -
Waiting on Insurance

The surgeon's office usually uses the first weight. My BMI was low and I was approved based on co-morbidities. Good luck. -
Dec 2015 Sleevers!
Tobeornottobe replied to ivettev001's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does get better everyday. The pain from the gas was probably the worst. I walked a lot and that helped immensely. That pain was gone in 4 days. I'm definitely sore, it feels like I did a million sit ups. I am been blessed as I have not experienced nausea or throwing up. I hate taking the Lovenox shots daily. I have no problems getting my Protein or Water in. All in all my experience has been mostly positive.
