New girl in town: Introductions and questions

LOL that is funny! i am doing good. I may be behind everyone who was in the same boot camp class I was in. I had the class then went on a 16 day vacation. I got back Sunday. Saw Maureen the Behaviorist on Monday and she indicated she would clear me on the next visit in in 4 weeks. Saw Rachel the NUT on Tues, She told me NOT to lose any more weight,or my BMI would be to low for surgery. ( how crazy is that I am 110 lbs over an ideal weight but can't lose any more?!) And I see Dr.Abeles for the 1st time next Friday! So its rolling along good. How are you doing?
  2. Hi ya, I am Michelle. I live in SE MA. I am in the process of being approved for the gastric sleeve. I have done a group meeting and an appointment with a therapist. The next hurdle is tomorrow a 6 hour boot camp at the doctors office where i will meet other on the same journey. What else they do in 6 hours I do not know. My big thing at the moment..Is I have to bring a bag lunch. I am like what is this a test? I am worried I will flunk. Any one use Signature Medical in Brockton Dr. Aboles?
  3. I just went on a 16 day vacation that involved flying and hiking. And xwi I just got back from a trip that involved a lot of hikining, flying picture taking and swimming. And I kept telling myself how much cooler it would have been if I was thinner. I mean it was cool..except for the pictures... But it would have been AWESOME if I was thinner.

Told NOT to lose any more weight pre op

My surgeon does not do a liquid pre op diet at all..
  5. I had a NUT appt today. I lost 7 lbs on vacation. From 273 to 266. Since I do not have any thing like high blood pressure or apena or diabetes if my BMI goes under 40 I am out of the running for surgery. How do you like that?
  6. That is the big thing I learned today at the 6 hour boot camp my surgeon runs at Signature Medical in Brockton MA. From past experiences I know my Mom n law who had a gastric bypass drank..that ended badly for a lot of reason..and my Brother in law also has a gastric bypass does drinks booze and coffee does fine . A friend who is sleeved and 2 yrs post op has an occasional drink of caffinated coffee and cocktails..like daquris's not burbon... and she's doing good. For me..teling me I ABSOLUTLY can not do something has always been like red to a bull. It is my WHOLE issues with weight loss really... It is the only absolutes the progam has post op aside from keeping your appointments. But I am having a hard time wraping my head around it. I have already given up diet coke. Is keeping my one cup of coffee a day and an occasinal glass of wine to much to hope for? The brightside I learned today was there is NO pre op liquid diet.

    Any Other Vermonters?

LOL by the silence I'd say no.. am in MA...
  9. I am in the pre op stage. I had a 6 hour bootcamp and was given general guidelines for eating until I official meet with the NUT. Practice mindful eating,Break the drinking with meals, and you get extra points if you log your food before you see her. Typically you see her one week after bootcamp.. I won't be seeing her until July 20th. I will be traveling July 3rd to 19th. With the 5th to 16th being a road trip from WA to CA and back. I have used fitday in the past..but won't have my PC that I really need to use that. I am looking for smartphone apps that will sync with an online program. I have used sparkpeople in the past. I was considering breaking out the bodybug for the trip..but i really don't know if I have room for one more charger lol... And any strategies you have for attempting to eat clean on the road are appreciated.
  10. ok found and installed the app..but it won;t let me use my facebook to log in,like I have here..and I don;t waana create a whole new account... anyone know how to do this?
  11. Can you get this forum on your phone? I would miss you guys. I don't post a whole lot yet, But I lurk a lot.

    I finally decided

Awesome! Good for you! I am sorry for your past pain. I have a past that would haunt me if I let it so I get where you are coming from. You are amazing! Keep going!
  16. Thanks, that is what my surgeons office sells. I was wondering how they taste.
  17. Yeah I can see how a Mocha Frapuchino would add to regain..But all I am looking for is a single cup a day with a little half and half and a sweetener like stevia.
  18. My surgeon is out of Norwood Hospital in MA -- not too far! I'm only a few weeks out. I quit caffeinated Diet Coke a few months ago and quit all Diet Coke for my liquid diet. I've missed it a bit but I'm not doing too bad without it. Haven't asked my surgeon or NUT yet about long-term if I can go back to caffeine or carbonation or anything. I'm not even going to try anything like that until at least 6 months post-op -- we'll see! Howdy neighbor. I have already given up the diet coke. I do not miss it as much as i thought I would. Thanks for the info and good luck.

Best surgeon and clinic in Massachusetts

I am new in the process. I was going to go to BI but the commute for after care was a deal breaker for me. I am using http://www.mysignaturephysician.com/physician_abeles.html I have done the group meeting, the 1t therapy apt and a 6 hour class. So far I am very impressed.SouthShore Brockton Area. A good friend had it done at Mass General and is very happy. I can;t recall her surgone's name
  20. I could have written this and I have not even started the pre op phase of food charting and the weight loss I know will follow. So I have no insight to offer you but I know EXACTLY what you are saying.
  21. From what I see you will be in good hands. Bring Chapstick for the recovery room. That was a tip I was told today. Your lips get very dry in recovery and you only get that 1oz cup of liquid 1 an hour for 4 hours. I realy likeed the office manager Lynne. She was a hoot.
  22. Cool! Where are you in the process? It was supposed to be July 6 but she called me today with a cancellation so now I am moved up to June 29 So they moved your surgery date up? Very cool! Congrats!
  23. Thanks for all the info gang. I am not looking to go on an all out bender everyday..but sometimes as a mom of 4 kids,a wife and employee with a job some days I just want A drink lol.
  24. Cool! Where are you in the process?
  25. Thanks for chiming in! Good luck on your journey
