2 years post-op update before & after pics
Faithoftheheart replied to Faithoftheheart's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I actually don't walk as much as I was post-op. Mostly it's been an issue of timing. I currently walk 3 to 4 times a week almost always its an hour at least occasionally less. I think how much is necessary really depends where a person is in their journey to weightloss (either losing or maintaining) I know the most important part is listening to your body cues. More walking during active weight loss is key and I think remaining active after goal weight is achieved is essential as well.. Good Luck -
Surgery date: October 17...Is 1 day in the hospital enough?
Faithoftheheart replied to GeTnBackuP's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had RNY and I know I am a tough cookie (really). I think everyone responds differently and unexpectedly to their own unique procedure. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Have a back-up plan. I stayed ONE day and for me it was a huge mistake. I should have stayed the extra day. Listen to the cues your body gives you. You get no award or ribbon for gritting your teeth and struggling if you need that extra day. I think had I spent the extra day in hospital I would have ultimately had a faster recovery rate in general. Just listen to your body at the time. You may be great after 24 hours but there is no shame in an extra day if you need it. Good Luck! -

It's been 2 years now since RNY. I have lost 180lbs. I am feeling great though i have had a few bumps I would still do it all over again. I did have a internal petersens hernia which caused me to have an intuspection and resulted in needing a bowel resection to get ride of some necrotic bowel. It wasn't fun but they said it was because I lost a lot of weight pretty quickly. I do a great deal of walking and now have more focus on working out with weights to build more muscle. I wear a size medium shirt and size 9 jeans my shoe size even dropped an entire shoe size. -
Official August thread! Where are you guys?
Faithoftheheart posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's so hard but exciting watching all the June people go in and seeing the July bunch start their pre-op diets and get ready for their big day, soooo I thought I would start a August thread for those of us who are gearing up for our turn!! I have an August 13th date and start my pre-op diet in July 30th and time seems to be dragging by.. I have read all my books combed through this web site and been inspired!! I have a few worries like my pre-op diet (3 Protein shakes a day and 64 ounces of Clear liquids only) what a bummer I am strangely excited to start that process but know it will be a challenge to be liquid only.. I have heard about the Swanson infused broths and planned to try those but I suppose our area hasn't caught up with the progressive world because our stores don't have them. So hopefully I can order from wal-mart website.. I have not even purchased any protein powders or Vitamins. I sure am excited though. I can't wait to "meet" more August RNYers. -

3 months post-op. Just ate two slices of pizza.
Faithoftheheart replied to gbveteran4d's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a little disappointed reading some of these replies. I think a few of the responses have been judgemental and a lot of assuming going on. There is a difference between support, tough love and unwanted criticism. I don't think all of you have malice in your hearts but, to this OP I bet she is feeling attacked and not all understood. This is a process and we all are at different stages. While we are adults and sugarcoating is not something any of us need I think a little less of the jumping in to only repeat an unpopular and potentially very hurtful response is just not necessary. -
12 days post op and...
Faithoftheheart replied to Fullsteamahead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wanted to chime in here real quick. I had the same experience felt like I was starving and I got very discouraged and hated reading the posts about people saying I can barely eat this or that. Things have changed now. I don't feel like I am starving anymore and I think I am eating less than I was before (I KNOW I am). Give it some time and trust the process!! -
3 months post-op. Just ate two slices of pizza.
Faithoftheheart replied to gbveteran4d's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We ALL have various challenges during this journey. This may be yours. I think to answer your questions a lot of post op patients can eat the foods you listed. Initially I felt as you seem to feel. I got this major surgery and I can eat whatever I want woah!? Well I knew then I had a choice. I knew that this is life or death. Do I want to add years to my life and enjoy my family and friends or will I sacrifice them for this comfort food? It sounds horribly drastic but that's how the ball started rolling for me. I forced myself to start walking.. Every day.. Now I am at 2 to 3 miles a day. Which for me has helped a lot. I didn't want this surgery to be in vain and I know you don't either. So we were wrong about our expectations but you just have to readjust and decide if that pizza is worth it and give your new stomach a chance to show itself. You can do this. This pizza doesn't have to define the future of your journey. It isn't to late. Find a weight loss buddy to text. When those urges kick in lean on that buddy. -
Please help me with some food ideas!
Faithoftheheart replied to RuxieGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried Tuna salad? Cottage cheese. I will second the fish. Tilapia and Cod are good choices I personally have a LOT of trouble with salmon it doesn't matter how soft it is and I love salmon so this has been frustrating. As far as chicken goes I do have a suggestion. A favorite of mine is a low sodium deli 4 cajun chicken breast I get it shaved on the number 2 or 3 weigh an ounce of it warm it up for 25 secs and it is moist (not at all spicy) and has tons of Protein. I haven't tried swallowing beef other than very soft ground beef in chilli. I tried very soft stew meat from a beef stew it didn't chew well so I tossed the first bite and warmed a piece of deli sliced chicken. I also think that regular chicken sits on my tummy kinda grumpy so I stick with the deli chicken slices. Have you tried a light baby bel cheese? -
I cheated on my preop diet
Faithoftheheart replied to jhammer2's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You are not the only one who has ever cheated. Please stop beating yourself up over it. You can't change what already happened. It doesn't make you a bad person and it doesn't mean you are going to fail in this process. So now. Pick yourself up and look in the mirror and tell yourself you can do this and believe in yourself. You CAN still do this. Don't convince yourself it's to late. Just don't even go there don't look back. Believe in yourself and when that craving hits again come here to this forum. Text someone if you need the encouragement. Have a plan of action ready so when that craving comes you can do something about it. Maybe buy a cute pair of jeans. Just leave and go for a walk. Go in the bathroom and look yourself in the face and tell yourself you got this!! It is hard but the day will get here and you can succeed in this. Trust me you really can so this. No more going back and worrying about what you can't change okay. Big hugs ((squeeze)) -
My potassium was very low as well. I was at a 2.2. At this point it would be impossible to consume the amount needed so they gave me a script for it. So I would definitely recommend getting your level checked. I was having some issue and ended up in the ER and they discovered it when they ran labs.

What do you drink?
Faithoftheheart replied to kradtke5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Spring water.. I have always always been a huge fan of water. I tried crystal light and didn't care for it at all. On Drs orders a drank a bottle of powerade zero until I could get in required amount of water daily. It sure didn't take me long I hated that stuff.. I have never cared for tea the only thing I miss is my daily coffee. -
PreOp Liver Reduction
Faithoftheheart replied to TaylorzTrio's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on a liquid only pre-op diet.. Just doing a quick search though I see that "most" people were allowed to steam and lightly salt there veggies. No dips and no butter or margarine. -
I need help☺️
Faithoftheheart replied to marie beal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 20 pounds during my two week pre-op diet. I was shocked I lost that much because I did struggle a bit while I was on it. I had RNY on August 13th and since then have lost an additional 18lbs.. I have wondered how in the world I managed to lose 20 in two weeks before surgery then in the 3 weeks since not lose another 20 but then I realized I was needlessly focusing on numbers which I shouldn't be doing. I think I know why. Before the two week pre-op diet I didn't make any attempt to change my diet. I had food funerals and drank my beloved orange soda. The last thing I ate was a snickers bar and an orange crush... Since then I haven't had an ounce of soda no sweets or even a desire for a sweet. I have had savory cravings but I think I finally have convinces myself I can control it.. I am five weeks since my pre-op diet and have almost 40 pounds gone to show for it when I look at it that way I have to be satisfied. After all it took me years to get here its gonna take some work to get it off. Good luck and be patient and make the best choice for you. -
Not a mistake after all
Faithoftheheart replied to Naomi H's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nice to hear an update I was wondering about you -
It can take me about 20 to 30 mins to eat one scrambled egg and most of the time I feel full before I finish it. I have just now at 3 weeks post op been able to get the full feeling. As far as an omelette I am no where near ready to tackle one of those..

After surgery, how long will take to wake up?
Faithoftheheart replied to RGraham87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went back for surgery around 8:30 and they woke me up in recovery around 11:00 11:30. They said my blood pressure had been pretty high right after surgery and I woke up to the nurse beside my bed with the anesthesiologist telling her to give me another dose of meds. Then the first thing she asked me was to rate my pain.. Couldn't talk so I held up fingers lol and dozed for another hour before they moved to my room. -
Pre-Op Diet Problems
Faithoftheheart replied to LadyReyven's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a very hard time with the protein shakes also during my pre-op diet. I was allowed 3 a day and could have an extra one in the evening if I really needed it.. I averaged a shake a day.. Every now and then I would get in two. I had to force the ones down.. I wasn't allowed to have solid food. It was protein shakes and 64 ounces clear liquids. I had a lot of sugar free jello and sugar popsicles and tried the Swanson fusions broth but the Mexican tortilla was just to much in the way of spices for me. So then I had some homemade good quality chicken broth 100 times better than that nasty bouillon and canned broth. -
Ha-ha your not the only one.. I have a large family and I am the cook... I routinely cook for 8 and I am a mess while cooking I sniff and sniff lol.

So they think I might have a stricture
Faithoftheheart replied to Daisee68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I bet it is a relief to know what's going on and have a plan of action.. That's a small stricture. Get better soon! -
My binder has guidelines for each food group. Under Fats it says less than 3 servings a day.. 2tbsp of avocado, 1 tsp olive oil, 1tsp butter, 1tbsp sour cream,1tbsp low calorie salad dressing, 1tsp mayo and it also says use light or fat free versions when possible.. Peanut butter is listed in the protein section in my guidelines no more than 2tbsp is a serving of peanut butter
