  1. It is normal...it happened to me too...I just broke it. It was frustrating...until I saw my NUT on Monday and she told me to stop sweating it, that it happens very commonly to just about everyone during this time...and she told me to be prepared that it will NOT be the last time. Do the right things and all is well she said...

When did you go back to work?

2 weeks for me...Dr. basically asked when I wanted to go back and I told him "tomorrow? I'm bored as hell!" I'm a credit manager so, not much physical stress for me, just mental ha!...I got up to walk around every other hour.
  3. Sleeved 8/19. Lost 25 lbs post surgery so far. Eating normal diet (64g low fat protein/64 oz water) a day. Feel great. Get full pretty fast...no issues with pain after surgery (Dr did robotic arm laser), incisions healing nicely...no nausea after surgery (but they gave me meds so I wouldn't). So far only thing I cannot tolerate is hard boiled eggs. WS slowed down at 3-4 weeks, but has since picked up again. I joined a gym a couple weeks ago and do 30 minutes strength training and then 20 minutes cardio, then flip the next day...go to gym 5 days a week. I think I've gone down 3 sizes so far.
  4. Try adding some broccoli or spinach (or other veggies) in with your egg. I'm 5 weeks post and my NUT told me Monday to cut out Protein shakes and less yogurt, to eat more of what she called "real food." So I've substituted those with 1.5 oz meat (like tuna) with about 1/2 cup salad greens, She suggested to eat 2oz meat and add 1 oz veggies. You can also add crushed pineapple to ricotta or cottage cheese or use veggies to dip in ricotta (sounds gross, but is actually yummy to me). Add fruit to yogurt. She also told me to cut out Protein Bars. If you do Protein Shakes, add fruit to them. I get bored with the same foods all the time, so I am constantly changing things up. Hope you find a way to make it work. Honestly, in the long run, I struggle too to get anything but protein in, but I keep trying also.
  5. LOL!! This was so funny when he said this to me last night. He meant it as a compliment, but he since he really sucks at compliments...I take what I can get! I am 5 weeks out and down 26 lbs since surgery. And he is right, I don't wake myself up anymore from snoring either...I'd never noticed it before. I can even sleep on my back, which I was not able to do before! Yeah for small accomplishments!

    Stall...

I'm post op from 8/19 and at a 2 week stall at 25 lbs....This inquiring mind would like to know also! From what I've read here, stalls are common...I think we need to just stay the course..and plow through. Although, it is discouraging.

    Help

I am about 4 weeks out and at a stall...I started the gym this week, so hopefully the stall won't last! Good luck!!!
  9. My surgery is Wed 8/19. I started my liquid diet this past Monday...its sucks big time. It is not as bad today, but yesterday (yesterday was the day I was officially supposed to start, I started 2 days early) it was the worst! I can't stand to be in the office during lunch time so far this week, every food smell makes me crazy with hunger! There is junk food laying everywhere...it's making me insane. I'm stepping on the scale every day making sure I don't gain, if I do, no surgery next week for me...I'm a paranoid wreck! I keep thinking of all the foods I will NEVER get to eat again....argh!!! Wednesday can't come soon enough....

    Second guessing my choice ????

I feel your pain, I'm hating everyone that eats around me right now. I started my liquid diet Monday. I keep reading here that it gets better, I'm holding out hope I feel your pain, I'm hating everyone that eats around me right now. I started my liquid diet Monday. What to pack for the hospital

The only thing my surgeon said to pack (other than clothes to wear home) was comfortable shoes to walk in...since they have you up and walking every 4 hours after surgery. I get sleeved next Wednesday too. I'm packing my own pjs, change of clothes for going home, tennis shoes and socks, and toiletries...that is it.
  14. I recently went to a support group meeting that my doctor's office has on a monthly basis. (I am scheduled for the sleeve surgery on 8/19.) The focus on that night's meeting was geared towards individuals that have not yet had surgery and fighting those weak moments when you just want to eat. One of the speakers was one of my NUT's. She had suggested making an "INSTEAD OF BOX" meaning go to this box instead of eating. She showed examples of things like: deck of cards, inspirational books, puzzle books, back massager (this got a big giggle from the crowd), etc...simply put, things you like or can do to take your mind off of eating, While this sounded kind of silly at the time, I thought about it and decided, just today (so I figured I'd share), to make my own box. However, my box is not just going to be filled with things I can do, but slips of paper of why I am doing this...and things I'd rather do than continue my overweight lifestyle and indulgences. For example, slips of paper that say: I'm tired of being embarrassed when wearing a bathing suit No longer having high blood pressure I want to be able to shop for clothes at a normal store I want to be able to walk up stairs without being winded. I'm putting in pictures of places and things I want to do that I was am too embarrassed now to do. Has anyone done this? How did it work for you? Kind of like putting signs on the fridge.

    Am I the only one?

I get this too..."Have you lost weight?" Um...no! I just tell them I'm just having great sex, that's why I look so good! Hopefully soon I can say "why yes I have thank you for noticing!"

    6 month wait...

I knew going into the program that my insurance required 6 months of the being followed by a NUT etc. But honestly, I'm glad. It has given me 6 months of time to make sure I can do this...and make sure it was not a "rash" decision for me. My 6 months were up this week, and I chose to wait another month due to vacation. I didn't want to be going to the beach and dealing with all the changes to my body and diet during that time. Not to sound discouraging, but it really went by so slow for me because I do not have any serious health issues except a little high blood pressure, but not bad...so it seemed like time was dragging by. However, it did take me 6 months to realize that what I had been eating before was total crap and I've learned to eat PROTIEN and the right kind and amount of protien....and that this whole thing is a journey!

    Ugh

I'm fairly new here too...but I couldn't resist replying. First, you do not need anyone to validate your decision. No one goes into this without researching and thinking hard about it. And second, people like that...I'll keep it clean, they can either be supportive or go mind their own business. What does she mean you don't deserve it? Everyone deserves to be healthy and happy! What kind of friend tells a friend that they don't deserve that? And I'm sick of hearing people say that surgery is the easy way out...there is NOTHING easy about preparing for this surgery, and I'm sure after the surgery will be no picnic either. Maybe she doesn't deserve your friendship....

    Venting....

I know what you are saying. I am the type of person that normally doesn't care what others think of me...or my opinions and choices. But I hear it about others and it ticks me off...like we don't have enough concerns! Since I've chosen to tell basically no one, I don't hear it about myself. There is my husband, my daughter, one sister, and my best friend that know, all of which support me. I've told my boss that I need surgery, but did not say for what. Everyone thinks they are an expert. I can guaranty what I will say if this happens to me, "Good thing I don't care what you think about it. I suggest you do that for yourself and let me to my own choices."
