    Confused!

    1. I hear all the time Protein, protein, protein, She was all about vegetables and fruits. For example said she doesn't like the bariatric portion plates as it is 1/2 protein and 1/4 starch, 1/4 vegs. She said go 1/2 vegs, 1/4 starch, 1/4 protein are you asking what is a good pre op diet plan? 1/4 protein? After surgery, protein is your new best friend. Just trying to understand at what stage you are talking about here. IMHO, if she is talking about after surgery, she is literally going to have your with your hair falling out and losing your muscle mass.

    Small triumps!

Another triump! This weekend I took my 14 yo daughter shopping for her first homecoming dress. She wears a 13/14. So she tried on a couple dresses at Boscov's. Found a nice silky and sheer overlay blue one...on sale from $70 to $9.99....was a tad big, but worked for her...it was a 16. We continued to shop, but I bought it just because I couldn't pass the deal up...and I told her I would be able to wear it one day (pre surgery I wore between 22-24). She ended up getting a different dress. I took the blue one and tried it on and IT FITS! A little tight in the chest, but not uncomfortable! I haven't been able to fit a 16 in anything for over 18 years! I still can't fit 18 pants (because I'm all butt and hips), but hey, I'll take it as a triumph! I was wearing it dancing and prancing around the house chanting and singing "I fit a 16! Oh yeah...I'm the queen!" My husband and daughter rolled their eyes laughing along with me.

    Small triumps!

Funny thing happened today...someone at work, who doesn't know about my surgery, told me I needed to buy some clothes that fit me because my pants were so baggy. I laughed and said "Thank you! That's a very nice thing to say..."

    Help

I didn't have sleep apnea, but I do not snore anymore. I was never depressed, but I do have a better outlook on my own life now.

    Summer clothes

I have gone through my closets and drawers and bagged up everything that as of right now is too big.... no matter what season it is for...I'm not going back to that size, so why keep them? As soon as I find out something is too big, out it goes. Not too soon IMHO.

    The stall

The dreaded 3 week stall...it's a common curse....keep on track, it will break.
  11. I was sleeved 8/19, so by no means am I am expert...but the first 24 hours after surgery, I hated that I had this done and I told my doctor I hated him for doing it to me...he told me "I get that a lot...see how you like me in the morning." I loved him the next morning! I had laser surgery, so once I was off the narcotic (I stopped them), I felt great! Walking helped a lot... to your questions: Q1: Who cares what others think about whether you should have had surgery or not, this is YOUR decision and between you and your surgeon. Period. Q5: Any drug store should have them. Q7: I was told to keep them clean and leave them alone. Q8: Absolutely not. Good luck!
  12. Got my family to switch from regular ice cream to sugar free...my question is...am I allowed to eat it too? Serving size is 1/2 c I think, but I doubt I could eat that much. I'm not worried about starting to crazy sweets, but occasionally I'd like a treat that I wouldn't be on my knees praying to the WLS powers to not let me gain weight! NUT also told me turkey Jerky or beef jerky are good options, but I saw the sodium content and mentally ran screaming....thoughts on that??

    Working out?

I work out 5 days a week. I do 30 minutes on cardio (elliptical, stationary bike, treadmill) and then 20-30 minutes strength training. I switch things up...work on arms and stomach one day and legs the next. If I don't lose pounds but I continue to lose inches, I'm a happy gal. I've not increased my food intake at all, but reading these posts...I'm going to send an email to my doctor's physical fitness director about it. Thanks for sharing everyone!

    Small triumps!

LOL...you are right The Post Op...I'm not sure how she meant it, but I took it as a compliment!

    Oops

Are you on weed due to a medical reason? If not, I am concerned that a psychologist said this is ok. They are consulting to identify issues that may hinder WLS progress and success so they can be dealt with. I am sad to say (although I am only 6 weeks post op), if you are struggling during the 3 week diet, it will be difficult after the surgery for you. It is a small sacrifice for a lifetime of gain...hang in there....you can do it.

Can men and women stay friends?

You've set your boundaries, and he is ignoring them. No means no...regardless of what it is. Honestly, if he cannot handle only being friends with you, then you need to distance yourself from him. I understanding losing a male friend like this...its hard, but it is also hard loving and caring for someone that doesn't feel that way back...if he can't handle it, then you need to cut the friendship string...until he can handle it. A friend respects you at all times.
  17. My NUT told me that Protein shakes, and yogurt for that matter, can be included in towards Fluid intake. I was not told to wait after drinking shakes to drink Water.

To Tell or Not To Tell?

IMHO, if you have these concerns...I would think about it long and hard on who to tell...but the decision is yours. It simply is a personal choice. I'm sure you've heard the rhetoric, where it is your decision and no one else's opinion matters but your own. But darn it, it is hard to do this period, and we want support....hell, we deserve it! If you decide not to tell anyone, when you are asked about how you are losing weight, you can honestly say without lying "I've come to the point in my life, that I have needed to make some very personal and drastic changes." If asked what does that mean, tell them again, it is personal and ask them to please respect your privacy. Bad thing is on the flip side, no one to share those accomplishments with either. On a personal note, I've only told my husband and kids, my best friend and one sister. I am 6 weeks post, and I will see family and more friends during the holidays, but I'm not yet putting it out there for ridicule, debate, or dialogue. However, I will say here that I am the type of person that if someone doesn't like my decision or opinion on it, I will frankly tell them to go pound sand for all I care....and that includes family. Someone at work found out, no idea how...and they had the nerve to start spewing the dangers and how I am weak yadda yadda yawn yawn...(now keep in mind I am a supervisor), I simply told them, good thing you don't run my life then.
  19. Perhaps this has been discussed before, if so, my apologies... I'm 6 weeks post sleeve...losing fine, plowed through first stall...eating 60 g low fat Protein daily (meats, eggs, etc), little to no carbs, working out for a hour 5 days a week. However, it seems like now, after being on this diet for over 2 weeks, I seem to not be able to eat as much as I did 2 weeks ago. I was eating 2.5-3.5 oz of protein (like diced chicken or shrimp)...now I can barely get in 2 oz and I'm feeling that really full feeling, almost to nausea. I chew to applesauce consistency and still get this feeling....so I cut back, and eating more often. Is this normal after eating more amount for a couple weeks, and then not being able to eat as much? But even that leaves me to another issue....since I eat more often, but less each time, having to wait 30-45 minutes to drink in between, I'm now struggling to get in the 64 oz of Water. Good grief, it's like I am constantly putting something in my mouth! (this part was merely a rant)

    Wedding on 10/10

Ok...I'm freaking out. One of my best friends from childhood is getting married on 10/10...I have to drive out of town for the wedding. I'm freaking out about the food....I'm freaking out about all the liquor I know will be there. My friend and her family are all obese...so I don't know what to expect of the menu...so I was planning on bringing a pouch of tuna...my question...is that RUDE to not eat the meal they paid for me to eat? Also, do you think a glass of champagne is going to do me in? I haven't had a drop of alcohol since 8/9 (10 days prior to surgery)...I was never a huge drinker (just occasional)...but it's a wedding for crying out loud! LOL

    The last supper...

I started my liquid diet the day I got back from vacation. I was so worried about gaining weight during my vacation that I started the diet 4 days early. By this point, I was so excited and so ready to start my weight loss, I didn't even think about all the foods I was never going to eat again. I had made my peace to food throughout my 6 month process. Of course, I was under the impression that I would not be allowed to have surgery if I weighed more than I weighed on my initial appointment. It wasn't until AFTER my surgery that I found out it really was I couldn't weigh more than I did on my surgery consult (one week prior to surgery)...but I am glad I didn't know that at the time or I would have eaten everything.

When did you buy new clothes?

I have been buying consignment/Goodwill for a couple years, sadly before it was because I kept gaining weight. We have 4 different stores in our county and they all have plus size sections. I'm down around 3 sizes now, and I've been trying to make due with what I have, but it is getting harder. Skirts and dresses are no problem, but pants are really baggy, and since I am fairly short, baggy makes it look even worse. So I am now going to Goodwill for smaller sizes. Each time I go, I get a couple outfits that I love in a couple sizes smaller, so I can work my way into fitting them and it is a reward for me. I actually bought a dress back in July when I found out one of my best friends were getting married, specifically to wear to her wedding. Now it's too big, and I'm paying $10 to have it altered...so I paid $14 total for a stunning dress, that would retail at $75 that now once again fits me. I refuse to spend a lot on good clothes, I've always been too frugal...with my even changing (and now for the good), until I am maintaining, I'm not forking out $$ for clothes that I'm not going to fit in (hopefully) in a couple of months.

    Wedding on 10/10

I'm afraid that it will be something like pasta/baked ziti etc. I could just ask her too Also, I'm not talking about drinking all night, I'm talking about a little champagne especially during toasting time. I'd be happy with salad at this point and eat some Protein before we get there.

    Mood taking a dive

I had this problem a couple weeks ago, but I started working out at a gym and it seems like the endorphins are winning the battle now.
