Warfarin user's INR
Pillar2butterfly replied to buffalomatt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
INR is nothing to mess around with, it can be serious. I did not come home on any blood thinner...only 2 shots in the hospital. What was the level? -
to snack, or not to snack?
Pillar2butterfly replied to GSleeve822's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it depends on how you define a "snack". I eat 6 times a day...but it's about portion size and quality of choices. My NUT wants minimum of 64 oz of Protein, but more is suggested. Example day: Breakfast: 2 hard boiled eggs or 1 scrambled egg with 1T mozz cheese. Snack (2 hours later): 6 oz Greek yogurt Lunch: tuna packet (2.6 oz) Snack: Protein Bar Dinner: Baked chicken 3 oz or so Snack: cheese stick and pickle I never eat after 8 pm I need all these in between "snacks" because otherwise I would never get in all my protein. Eating this way helps me not to snack poorly in choices. I don't think of it as snacking though, just part of my meals. If you mean snacking as in "potato chips, cake, etc" Nope...I mostly refrain entirely. -
Pretty dinner plate?
Pillar2butterfly replied to Nurse_Lenora's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I use my daughter's old Winnie the Pooh plate. Pooh's big stomach sticking out of his shirt reminds me to keep the food to a minimum so I don't end up looking like him...HA HA!. I only put on my plate what I intend to eat. Sometimes I can't eat it all...but if I prepare food for the family I know I can't eat or shouldn't eat...I don't put it on my plate at all. I try to be realistic in my meal portions, because if I take too much...my family won't have enough for seconds...and they all know I hate to waste food. -
So many emotions...happy, nervous, excited.......
Pillar2butterfly replied to Scarolann's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Scarolan....welcome! 8 lbs is great! Honestly, the liquid diet is the worst and hardest part of the journey in my opinion. It really sucked....but after the first couple of days it got better. Talk to your surgeon about your trip....I was cleared for travel as long as I was off narcotics (which i was). I traveled (flew) 2 weeks later with no issues. Whether or not you need surgery...well that is always a personal choice...and only you can make. I too lost some on the liquid diet, but I knew that wasn't something i could do long term or had any confidence in myself that i could sustain. I was fully committed to surgery the day I met my surgeon (which was 6 months prior to my surgery)...of course I had researched it for months and knew it was a sign from GOD when I saw that my employer had our insurance company covering it the upcoming year. Again, welcome to the site, and congrats on your loss, and good luck with your surgery or if you decide not to...good luck anyway! -
Need Help with Losing 10lbs for Surgery Consideration May 10th. How did you do it?
Pillar2butterfly replied to BBweightlossjourney's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First, Has anyone used Dr. Paragi from West Orange ? What was your experience from beginning to end? No, sorry...can't help there... A more important question, is I have to lose 10lbs quickly ... To be considered for the sleeve , any advice ? pleaseee ..How did you do it ? Is this a requirement by your insurance or surgeon? I am no nutritionist, but most surgeons require a liquid diet prior to surgery...no reason why you couldn't do it now. For example, on mine...I drank 3 Protein shakes a day for Breakfast, lunch, and dinner...in between I had 4 oz Dannon Greek yogurt, 4 oz FF cream chicken Soup (strained), SF Jello or SF pudding....using these variations as 3 Snacks in between. I did this for 10 days and lost 15 lbs. -
I suggest Biotin as soon as you can. I started Vitamin D, multi vitamin, Calcium citrate, Iron, and B12 several months prior to surgery. However I did not start Biotin until a few weeks after surgery and I experienced thinning hair. It has stopped thinning now, I am 7 months post...it actually stopped at month 5.

Total and utter nonsense..the stomach does not produce those. However, poor nutrition does impact it which is why it is so important to take Vitamins and get your fluids and Protein in.

Anyone eating Nuts
Pillar2butterfly replied to Lisa_85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On occasion...I will have some roasted almonds. Even rarer times cashews or macadamia. -
Calorie guides?
Pillar2butterfly replied to crazyplantlady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Call instead of email...I agree with the others. I'm now 7 months post, down 88 lbs....My NUT and Dr's rules were very simple for me. No counting calories for me. Its the 64 rule....minimum 64 oz Water and minimum 64 oz Protein. Keep food intake at less than 10 grams of fat and carbs per serving. Other suggestions eat protein first, then veggies, then fruit, then carbs. After the protein, there is only a little room left for anything else though...but I am able to squeeze some veggies in. I eat Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner every day...it's working well for me. -

Naughty language filter

LMAO...and to think it censored me for calling myself a sausage sl*t. -
From a legal standpoint, you don't need to tell your boss anything, and your boss should know better than to ask...and can get in trouble for even asking. However with that said, it can be difficult in handling the conversation. I would just tell your boss, you would appreciate their confidentiality in the matter.

Lets talk sausage....
Pillar2butterfly replied to Nurse_Lenora's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
"Omg you two are terrible! Lol I meant Italian sausage from the butcher shop... Forget it, there's no way to not misconstrue this thread ! Lol" I have Italian sausage, but he didn't come from the butcher shop...just the US Navy. To actually contribute to your question. I eat lean sausage, turkey or chicken sausage, or on occasion just regular sausage. Apparently I am a sausage sl*t. When I do eat Pasta (very rarely) I use Barilla's Protein pasta and only can eat a couple bits of it. -
Trying not to be angry
Pillar2butterfly replied to salmon77's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am so sorry you are going through this. That sucks. But, let me get this straight...she gave negativity before you became overweight...then when you are overweight she wanted you to get the surgery...yet she still is not supportive when you do? One the things I have found out in life is people suck and unfortunately, a lot of those people are relatives. Aside from not confiding in her, live on a need to know basis when it comes to your WLS journey. Ask her if she can't be supportive and positive about this then to keep her comments to herself. Another thing I have learned in life, is you can't expect change if you are not willing to do something about it. Tell her how you feel. If she still does it, shut her out of that part of your life. -
Hormones. They are all out of whack...happened to me too. I'm 7 months post op and they are back to normal now. I would ask your doctor on your next visit though.

Pain and Pain medications
Pillar2butterfly replied to Barry W's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only took tylenol after I left the hospital, and that was minimal. I took pepcid as well...nothing major, I basically sucked it up. It wasn't really pain, more discomfort. I stopped taking narcotics a few hours after surgery...didn't like the loopy feeling I got. I just waked the pain away. -
How do I start eating beans?
Pillar2butterfly replied to richdan's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
I make a very simple turkey chili with kidney Beans. I also have made a black bean Soup with turkey and a little bit of bacon, diced tomatoes and chicken broth. Refried beans are good too. -
I had this problem from month 2. I am now going on 7 months and it is starting to stop. I started taking Biotin as well, and it helped.

Sadly, my husband is that person that has no filter. He asked our kids former babysitter when her due date was (she had gained some weight). Good for her when she laughed and then asked him when his was. I keep telling him, if you don't know, don't open your mouth. He didn't mean it in a bad way....she had just got married and assumed...wrongly obviously. This does infuriate me and I spend time scolding him like a child and making him clean up his mouth messes.

I wasn't sent home on any injections, just had them while I was in the hospital. Did your doctor give you any instructions on what to do? -
What have you eliminated?
Pillar2butterfly replied to cuchas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No bread for me....my tummy hates it now...so it's just not worth the pain to eat it. After 6 months, I'm not really missing it at all. -
Is anyone not taking reflux meds post-VSG?
Pillar2butterfly replied to kinkymoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 6 months out. I stopped taking them after a couple months. I only take them now when I need them, which isn't very often.
