  1. I have BCBS and something similar happened to me. Turns out for me, it was not the "morbid obesity" code that was my issue, it was the secondary codes that were not valid. They took out the secondary codes and then it was covered. Find out if they have secondary codes being rejected. As BCBS what the issue is specifically.

Why do people bash weight loss surgery?

That's easy...Because, everyone is a self proclaimed expert on whatever topic is at hand, but most literally don't really know sh**. WLS is not for everyone, but good thing in my case is that I don't have to worry about pleasing everyone, just me. This will always happen...with WLS...on just about any thing really. Bottom line is that you do what is best for you...literally, to hold one's self accountable is to not care what others think of your choices.

    First NSV! Lool

That is awesome!!! Mine, being able to balance myself in high heels without feeling like I am going to tip over.
  5. So laying in bed last night with hubby. He was looking through his old phone that he uses as an alarm clock,. He found a picture of me from about 2 years ago, at the height of my obesity. He asked me if I remembered the picture. I looked so bad, it really made me sad to know i let myself get to look like that. My face and body was unrecognizable to me. I honestly didn't realize at first that it was me. I realized it really was me when I recognized the outfit I was wearing. I may not be where I need to be, but I thank God I'm not where I was. I don't run from cameras anymore...I don't seek them out, but at least I'm not avoiding them now either. So even though it bummed me out...I'll take it as a victory.

    Do you think...

They will likely not schedule until approval received. They are not going to want to tie up their schedule for "possibles." My insurance only took a couple days. Give them a week and then start bugging the crap out of them over the phone.
  7. Thank you everyone for the supportive responses....it is always refreshing to share here...knowing others totally understand!

    "That's on your diet!"

I'd say to them, "Why, yes it is...See how well it's working for me, I'm fricking fabulous?" Mentally, I'd be telling them to F*** off.
  9. Wow....just wow.... Amazing job....congrats on the weight loss! Our minds have a hard time catching up with our bodies on this journey. We are our own worst critic. I couldn't tell you if you need therapy or not, only you can answer that...but I do know it is hard to get used to being a healthy size and just because we are on the outside, it doesn't always reflect what we feel on the inside. You are valued, you are awesome....no matter what you look like on the outside.
  10. So I went for my 8 month post op check up. Doctor hasn't seen me since January. He came in and looked at me and then my picture in my file from my first appointment with him. He said he didn't recognize me, I looked so different. He said that he likes to see 50% excess weight loss at the 12 month post op mark, I am at 8 months and I am already at 71% excess weight loss. He said he couldn't be more pleased with my progress! I am down, according to him, by 95 lbs (ok my NSV does involve the scale too!) I told him that I am now comfortably wearing a size 12, which I haven't worn since I was in 10th grade! (30 years ago!) I am so excited!!!

This can not be correct! (Bra talk)

someone said they roll theirs up like socks! I almost have to fling them over my shoulders to shower to get them out of the way.

This can not be correct! (Bra talk)

I'm saddened that mine resemble smooshed danglehoppers and no longer anything that resembles breasts. At least I'm now a 34 and no longer a 42...still a C, just need to hike those bad boys up more.

    Insurance requires failing. What?

Most insurance companies have their policies online now. Ask them for the link to the WLS portion. If not online, ask them for a copy of the policy on WLS. this is not something private that cannot be given to you. I got mine from online, but my doctor's office knew it very well already. I got approved with no issues at all.

    Shelly's ricotta bake

During the pureed phase, I ate it as is...but make sure the cheese is melted on top or it will not be soft enough. But that was just me....

    NSV and my boss

Well, my higher boss hasn't really seen me in about a month. He saw me today and told me I need to stop losing weight because he has to squint now to see me. He said he was looking for me the other day and said he must have missed me because who he was looking for was someone that didn't even resemble who I am now. He said it's a good thing I talk a lot or he'd never know I was around. Ha! Because I know him so well, I took it as a compliment that he intended it to be.

I can provide only an assessment of past experience gentleman....LOL

Men measuring their manliness against other men's manliness?

This thread is like looking at road kill on the side of the road, you know better to avoid it, but you can't help but look anyway. Now, mind you...I am enjoying it, even though I am not quite sure I should be. But, having that said, it is about the male anatomy, so my lustful mind can't help itself. (hey, don't judge, I am a fine young(ish) woman with needs and quite frankly, I have no filter.....) So, am I getting this straight? Men check out other men's junk? What's so wrong with that? Women look at other women's boobs and say "Wow, wish my knockers looked like that." or "wish my knockers weren't on the floor", sometimes we even say "Wow, she should buy some knockers." We merely speculate from an opinion of comparison or some maybe in a means to make ourselves feel better, or to mentally never possibly be able measure up to our own made up imaginary or real societal standards. Now, I might be completely lost, but if the topic ventures to discussing if the male's size is of any realistic consideration to the quality of performance in the sack...then I can clearly make a better personal analysis for the group.

Are guys actually checking me out at the gym?

@@Steph0625 "I kinda just said F-it, but thats why I mentioned the staring. I'm just going to embrace it from now on lol" No one cares about that shit at the gym! They just care if you show up!

Are guys actually checking me out at the gym?

Things I have learned by going to the gym: Men find women that are taking care of themselves attractive. They find confident women attractive and that when you have the courage to go to a co-ed gym and work out in front of them, that shows great confidence..in essence, they think that stuff is hot. They don't care about sweat, running make up or even absence of make up...they aren't thinking that your butt is too big, what you are wearing, or any of that crap. If they are looking, they are checking you out. They are probably thinking, that is awesome that you are working out and taking care of yourself. Maybe by working out, you might be releasing pheromones ...so they are only human. Ask them to spot you and find out for sure
  21. I didn't have one moment, just a couple years of wishing I could get it done, but not being able to afford it. I had started the process while my husband carried the insurance that would cover it. A month into the process, he switched jobs and the new insurance did not cover it. In the meantime, I failed every single diet I ever tried, didn't want to put forth any effort to exercise. I failed me. When I had to turn sideways to get through a gate, couldn't get a seat belt to fit right on a plane (too embarrassed to ask for an extension) and got too winded trying to change gates to board my next plane, kept getting winded trying to walk upstairs to my bedroom...I knew it was time. Open enrollment came up that November and when I saw my employer's insurance was going to start covering for it, I knew it was time. That December, I made an appointment for January 4th...I haven't looked back....best.decision.ever.

Why is the pre-op diet necessary and so hard?

Honestly, in my experience, the pre op diet was the hardest and worst part of the entire journey. But, it is a very small sacrifice for a lifetime change. It didn't take a couple of months to establish our bad eating habits, so it's not going to take 2 weeks to fix them either. Resist the chocolate...it is not going to help, and it will only make you feel bad afterwards...keep looking to the goal and tell yourself you can do it!
  23. I couldn't agree more! My life is no one's business unless I choose to make it theirs. But hey, again, I have no problem telling people to bud the **** out of my life either.

    Questions- Help

In the very beginning, I was sick of Protein shakes due to the pre op diet..so I started drinking the No Sugar added Carnation K (as suggested by my NUT). It's not as high in protein as the others, but I was able to stomach until I could tolerate other Protein Shakes.
