Now when you are at work, just think about all the nasty coworkers who do not wash their hands after using the bathroom and then touch that food. They're picking at those donuts with filthy hands and sneezing on that pizza before taking some. You know they have to touch every donut before they get the one they want.

I'm on week five post surgery.
Breakfast has been a Qwest Protein bar because I can't stand the thought of another shake right now. They have 20 grams of Protein, 7 to 10 grams of NET carbs and are low sugar. Sometimes I make scrambled eggs. Sometimes I have slices of deli meat and cheese spread with light chive and onion cream cheese and rolled up and cut into pinwheel bites.
lunch is between 3 to 5 oz of protein - I alternate between steak, chicken, pork loin, lobster, shrimp or crab or salmon or some other fish. If I have room after eating the protein I eat a small salad or sliced zucchini that's been dipped in egg and Parmesan cheese and baked. I also sometimes eat green Beans.
dinner is a repeat of lunch with a different protein.
In the evening I usually have either a sugar free Popsicle or a sugar free Fudgesicle.

I chose the sleeve because I did not want the malabsorption issues with the bypass. I also didn't like the idea of messing around with my intestines.

I got heparin shots in the hospital every 4 hours for 2 1/2 days. I wonder if you got the same and didn't know it. They really didn't tell me what they were doing until I asked.
I had 22 bruises between my arms and my legs from the heparin shots and the every 4 hour blood draws and the IV where they had to try 4 different places to put it. I was a mess.
I love it when they asked me if I was safe at home. I told the nurse I was covered in bruises, someone was sticking me with a needle every 4 hours, my stomach had 6 incisions and you want to know if I'm safe at home? It's a lot safer at my house!

Try freezing the Protein Shake to about milkshake consistency if you like cold drinks. That was the only way I could drink them at first. I have to have anything I drink be ice cold or I can't stand it.

My surgeon and NUT both told me to fill up on the lean Protein first - eat between 3 and 5 oz and if I've had 5 oz and I'm still feeling hungry, then eat veggies until I feel full.
That seems to work well for me. I can tell when I'm feeling full which is really satisfied and not overstuffed.
I tried a bite or two of ice cream and thought it tasted awful. It was sickeningly sweet. I'm liking sugar free fudgesicles and popsicles a lot more that regular sweets.

I think the first one I did was the Scarsdale Diet. I also did the Cabbage Soup diet.
I did Weight Watchers for the first time way back in the days when you had to eat liver each week for the Iron and mayo was not allowed so they suggested you mix tuna and mustard. I hate both tuna and mustard.
I took the diet pills you could buy in the drug store.
I had good success on Atkins - I lost 145 lbs - but then it got to where I was only eating one meal a day and I stopped doing it. I did keep off 100 pounds of that though and it's been 15 years now.
Jenny Craig Center asked me to leave when I kept arguing with them about having to buy their Vitamins. I wanted to know what was in them that made them better than what I could get at the drug store. I kept insisting there must be something in there they didn't want me to know about.

hockeyfan7 got a reaction from lisaluvsgreys in Success with sleeve after band failure?
In 3 years with the band I lost a total of 80 pounds. And then it stopped and I started having major problems eating and vomiting all the time.
In not quite 4 weeks with the sleeve I've lost 21 pounds. I'm rarely hungry to where my stomach is growling and I want to eat. I keep around 1,000 calories a day with the lean Proteins and non-starchy veggies and if I really want to eat something, my NUT says to just get some more veggies. I know I didn't get fat eating salad.

Yes, I did it on June 1st. I was throwing up everything I ate with the band. So far, so good. My surgeon said he only removed about 70% of the stomach instead of the normal 80% to make sure with the scarring from the band I wouldn't have leaks around where the esophagus meets the stomach. So I've been able to eat a little more than usual once I got to solids.
I'm very happy at this point. My port would move and hit a nerve and cause sharp pain in my stomach. I don't have that any longer. My food stays down. I can eat chicken again - I could never eat chicken in any shape, sort or form after my band. I haven't had problems with any kind of lean Protein so far.

I'm 4 weeks out and at 1,000 calories a day too. Saw my surgeon 2 days ago and he said that was perfectly fine as long as the calories are coming from lean Protein and non-starchy veggies.
He said it's not so much the calories but making sure you are hitting the Protein goals. Different lean Proteins have different calorie counts.

I like the deli meat and cheese rollups but I add some light chive and onion cream cheese. I find that helps me feel full. Just that little bit of fat helps the Protein in making me not hungry.

hockeyfan7 got a reaction from Madmax68 in Is my surgeon too easy-going and liberal?
My surgeon allows solid foods at day 10 if you are tolerating liquids well. Lean Proteins of any kind plus green Beans, summer squash and zucchini.
I'm on week 4 and saw him yesterday. He told me any lean Protein and any non-starchy veggies were fine now. He also said not to worry about the calories - just stick to the food plan, avoid carbs except from non-starchy veggies. He told me that the dieticians are more used to working with direct sleeve patients and it's a little different for people like me that revised from band to sleeve.
I eat around 1,000 calories a day and he said that's fine.

Everyone is different for sure. I'm 4 weeks out and easily getting 1,000 calories a day in Protein and veggies. My dietician says it's too high and my surgeon says it's just fine and not to listen to the dietician because I'm a band to sleeve revision. He said that's going to be different from a straight sleeve.

I work from home as a full time teleworker and I still took 90% of a week off. I did check e-mail and respond to some text messages. But I was so exhausted all the time that I slept a lot. The second week I didn't work a full week. I was working about 10 am to 4 pm each day. Week 3 was much better and week 4 is feeling good now.

I chose to revise to the sleeve instead of the bypass because the malabsorption issue was one I didn't want to deal with. My surgeon told me yesterday he took off about 70% of my stomach instead of the normal 80% - he left more so that where my band was and where my esophagus met the stomach I wouldn't be prone to getting a leak. The weight loss may be slower but for me, slow and steady wins the race and I just didn't feel right about the bypass for me personally.

hockeyfan7 got a reaction from Chrysacola in Band to sleeve in one surgery. Who's had it done that way? How long had you had your band? What was your recovery like? Any complications? Regrets?
I just had mine done two weeks ago. Band was removed and the sleeve done in the same surgery. I was in the hospital 2 days which is what my surgeon does for all sleeve and bypass patients. I haven't had any problems and have been able to each anything I've wanted to this week without any vomiting or stomach upset. No complications so far and no regrets.
I have been more tired with this surgery than I did with the band surgery, but I'm also 3 years older. I had less pain and barely used any pain meds in the hospital and none once I got home.
