  1. And it can even vary with surgeons in the same practice. My surgeon's pre-op diet was three 300 calorie meals of lean protein and salad and 2 shakes a day. I had to be in the hospital 2 nights after surgery - all his bypass and sleeve patients do. I had liquids and things like cream soups and Greek yogurt starting day 3 through day 9 and then on day 10 moved to soft foods and moved to real food on day 14. I was allowed to have steak and salad week 3. One of the other surgeons in the practice did my friend's surgery and her plan was not the same as mine.

    Someone slap me please!

This statement is true if you want to be fat again. My surgeon and NUT said NO carbonated drinks, NO processed foods, NO processed sugars, NO processed breads, tortilla, and chips......Not strongly discouraged. We can certainly eat most all foods post op, if we want to be fat again. That may be what your surgeon said. But you do realize not all surgeons have the same plans? And all NUT's don't either. Just like all surgeons don't use the same pre-op diet, not all surgeons use the same post-op diet.

    I'm so sick of water

Everyone's surgeon and NUT have different plans. And there are those who disagree that carbonation will stretch your stomach. Surgeons vary on your pre-op diet and your post-op diet and how long you stay in the hospital and so forth and so on. I've had some carbonation - and I did not have any pain or suffering. It was no different than drinking Water. Water gives me major heartburn so sometimes I have something else.

    Any NC sleeves!?

Greensboro here. Was a band to sleeve revision on June 1st.

    How much time off work?

I work from home full time. I am a financial analyst who sits at a computer all day. I took a week off and spent most of the week sleeping. Then the second week I worked between 4 and 6 hours a day - I'd sleep in late and start work about 10 am and then I was done by 3 or 4 in the afternoon and would have to take a nap. It was not until week 5 that I was not totally exhausted.

Food Scale - do you really need one?

I weigh and measure everything and I track on My Fitness Pal. It helps me make sure I'm meeting my carb, Protein and fat macros and staying under a certain number of calories.

    VITAMINS?

My NUT recommended Flintstones Complete. You have to make sure it's the ones that say Complete. They have everything you need. I use a gummy for my B12. And I use the bariatric Creamy Bites calcium - the chocolate tastes just like candy.

    Water post-op

I have to admit that drinking through a straw was the only thing that worked for me. I know they say not to, but I can't drink any other way. I think it helps me control the amount that goes in at one time.

    Slimies

With the sleeve? I had that with the band, but not with my sleeve. Sorry I don't have any advice but I hope you can find something that works.
  10. I ate nuts at 3 weeks out. I don't eat them often because every time I do my scale goes up a pound the next day even if it's just a small amount. But I have no trouble with digesting them. So far the only food I've had trouble with is ice cream and I only had a couple of bites. That was awful.

    June 2015 sleevers

I was a band to sleeve revision June 1st. I've lost 22 lbs so far. Weight loss has stalled out. I feel like I'm not eating enough and my body is protesting. I had one day last week where I ate 1100 calories and I dropped a pound. This week I'm trying to eat more Protein and see what happens.
  12. I was sleeved on June 1st. I have had Mexican food - just a small amount. I ordered this dish that had chicken, shrimp and steak with peppers, onions and some other veggies. I didn't eat the tortillas or the rice and just a small amount of the Beans. I have had chicken wings - just not breaded and I ate them without a lot of sauce. And after 2 I was done. I did try ice cream and it was awful. It was disgustingly sweet and icky. I find now that sugar free fudgesicles are so much better. I think you might find that some things you used to like taste not so good now. I've tried pizza and after a bite or two it was just meh. Now give me a nice medium rare filet mignon or a ribeye and it's all over from there. I spend the money I used to spend on junk food on filet mignon now. So much better!

    Rookie joining the team!

Welcome! The time will go faster than you think and you'll be at your surgery date before you know it.

    Carbonation?

Yes I have had some diet soda both fountain and from a can and I haven't had any issues with it. I don't do it often but I have done it.

    Tell the truth, exercising

I have not started exercising yet. I'm on week 6 post op. I have really bad osteoarthritis and had to give up my meds because they were an NSAID. I have a lot of knee pain constantly and I can't walk very far at all without pain. I need to get my behind to the Y and do some Water classes in the pool.

    Preop diet day 1...

Drink lots of Water. Is there a limit to the number of shakes you are allowed to have in a day?
  17. Buttercup06 - glad to hear that! It's so freeing to be able to keep food down. I've been eating lots and lots of chicken because I haven't been able to eat it for 3 years! The surgeon told me the port was rubbing against a nerve when I felt that stabbing pain. I'm so happy you are feeling better and enjoying your sleeve!

    Ugh

In my honest opinion perhaps it is time to back away from her for a little bit. You are going to be making a major life change and having major surgery and you need to focus on you first for a while. You don't need the negativity right now. Once she sees how you have come through the whole process and you're doing much better after surgery then you can let her back in. But for now, she's toxic and you don't need that as part of your journey.

    Cramps... No ibuprofen

I was told absolutely no NSAIDS ever either. I had to give up my arthritis medication and it's been tough. Tylenol is pretty useless but try liquid Tylenol and a heating pad. Or ask your doctor if they can give you a shot of something that won't go through your stomach.

    Weighing food

I can eat anywhere from 3-5 oz of lean Protein at a time depending on what it is and how long it's been since the last time I ate. I can eat a small salad or a serving of zucchini or green Beans. I do weigh and measure because I track on My Fitness Pal to make sure I'm hitting my protein and carb and calorie goals.
  21. When I had my band done in 2012 my first appointment was in May and I was approved in late June but my surgeon couldn't schedule the surgery until August. When I had my sleeve revision we decided the very end of April, insurance approved mid-May and I had surgery June 1st.
  22. I had a band to sleeve revision all in one surgery on June 1st. I had the band in 2012 and the first 2 years were fine. Then I started throwing up everything I ate including even something like Protein shake. I kept going to get the fill adjusted and never could get into the green zone. So in April the doctor removed all the fill and then I had the surgery. I haven't thrown up or slimed once. I can eat chicken again. I haven't found any lean protein or non-starchy veggie I can't eat. I can eat fruit. The amounts are still small and I still get full quickly. But it stays down. I don't miss having that port at all either. Mine would move and rub on a nerve and hurt like heck like I was being stabbed. My sleeve surgery was really easy. No complications, no problems with the liquid stage and no problems so far with the real food solid stage. Very little pain in the hospital and didn't take any pain meds once I got home. The hardest part was the 2-3 weeks of sheer exhaustion. The first week I had to sit on a chair to dry my hair or put on makeup and after a shower I had to sit on the bed for about 5 minutes before I could get dressed. I don't regret switching one bit at all. I feel normal with the sleeve. When we go out to dinner I don't have to get up to go to the bathroom because what I just ate is coming back up.

Getting off the depo sleeved 2-25-15

Sorry, no. When I stopped using Depo I had a period that lasted 18 months, was passing clots the size of my fist, flooding a pad every 15 minutes. A D&C didn't stop it. Multiple doses of BC pills all taken at once didn't stop it. They even tried Premarin high doses and that didn't stop it. I finally had to have an ablation and that solved the problem. Depo is nasty stuff. I'd talk with your doctor about all the options available and what's best for you.
  24. I'm a band to sleeve revision. I had my sleeve surgery on June 1st. I am so much happier with the sleeve. I haven't thrown up once. I can eat like a real person although the portions are tiny. I can eat chicken again - I couldn't eat chicken in any shape, sort or form with my band. I don't have to get up in a restaurant and go to the bathroom and throw up the little bit I just ate because it's stuck. I can drink just fine with a straw. I hate Water so the only way I will drink it is ice cold with a straw. And adding Crystal Light or anything else doesn't help. I just have to make myself drink it. I am so glad that band is gone. I don't miss the port moving and scraping across a nerve and hurting like heck. I don't miss throwing up everything I tried to eat. I'm happy with my choice to revise to the sleeve.
  25. It will depend on your surgeon's schedule. When I got my lap band in 2012 it was 2 months from the time insurance approved me. For my sleeve revision last month it was 2 weeks from the time insurance approved it. Total difference.
