My surgeon told me the pain around the port is often the port sliding over a nerve. I had that a lot. The sharp stabbing pain drove me nuts. -

Syntrax nectar Caribbean Cooler tastes just like a pina colada. I also like the Crystal Sky which is more citrus. The twisted cherry is good too. The other Syntrax flavor I liked was Peanut Butter cookie. -
I can't do too much walking because I have bad osteoarthritis and my knees are bone on bone. I have been going 3 days a week to the YMCA and doing an aqua aerobics class.

Revision Surgery on Tuesday 8/11

I had it all done at once. Pretty much no pain - pain meds twice in the 2 days I was in the hospital and one was because I had a really bad headache. No pain meds when I came home. No nausea, vomiting or anything. I love it! Surgery tips are the same as with the band - get thee out of bed and walk, walk, walk. -

I threw up every single day for months with the band and I did NOT have a hernia. It had already been repaired when I had my lap band surgery. I have Anthem BCBS and the only thing I had to do was go see a psychiatrist for one appointment. I had to do the regular pre-surgery EKG and blood work but that was a hospital requirement and everyone who has surgery has those. -
What do you do when you just cant tolerate another protein shake ?

When I got totally sick of the Protein shakes, I had some scrambled eggs. I was a day early from going to that stage and my NUT didn't really get too upset. -

Yes, mine was the same way. No pain meds at home and only twice in the hospital. Nice healing, No nausea. Was on solid foods and eating steak and salad by day 14 (with my NUT's and surgeon's approval). The only thing I have as well is that I hate Water so it's hard for me to drink it. -
I had them the 2 days I was in the hospital. I had heparin shots multiple times a day. Between the shots and the blood draws I had 22 separate bruises when I went home. They asked me in the hospital if I was safe at home. I told them I have 22 big bruises and 6 incisions on my stomach - I'm a whole lot safer at home than I am in here!

I used to eat ice cream by the half gallon. Now it just tastes awful. In fact, sweet stuff tastes icky now. It's overly sweet and cloying. And I used to eat multiple candy bars daily or some form of candy all the time. I used to eat potato chips by the pound bag. Now they taste awful to me too. I can't tell you why - they just do. And I've eaten more vegetables in the past 8 weeks than I've eaten in the past 8 years. They taste really good now. I weigh and measure everything and track on My Fitness Pal to make sure I stay within my calorie and Protein goals. I don't believe in the whole calories in/calories out thing. If I'm only eating around 1100 calories a day and I should be eating closer to 1900 at my weight then the weight should be falling off if it's only CICO. But it isn't falling off that fast.

Yes - I had scrambled eggs at day 8 and it was supposed to be day 10. My NUT told me that quite a few people do that. My surgeon's plan starts people on solid food between day 10 and day 14 depending on how they are doing. I haven't had any problems with any foods. I had steak and salad on day 12 and it was just fine.

Today starts my 3rd month and I started Water aerobics today. I have been going to the pool and playing around with my son. We went bowling on Saturday and I had to have my son finish my 2nd game - I couldn't do it.

Since everyone's NUT is different, you will get different opinions. I find that if I eat a carb that is not from fruit or veggies, the scale goes up 2 lbs the next day. Every single time. My surgeon is totally against carbs in the form of potatoes, bread, Pasta, rice, and starchy veggies like corn and peas. He's all the time telling me not to eat mashed potatoes. I HATE mashed potatoes. I always tell him I'd rather eat Little Friskies.

The advice I got from the NUT was if I feel hungry then eat some Protein. She said not to worry so much about calories but get in the proper protein and then if I was still hungry to either have more protein or make a salad.

Anesthesia!????????????

Both times for my lap band and my revision to sleeve they gave me Versed after I told them I was afraid of the anesthesia. I don't even remember going into the operating room either time. I talked to the anesthesiologist and he told me that it's extremely rare for someone to wake up in the middle. They have all kinds of high tech gadgets monitoring your every response. He also told me if you have had surgery before and it didn't happen to you then, it won't in the future. -
Mine took about 3 weeks to come off. My surgeon told me not to pick at it. Then when I went to see him 22 days after surgery he ripped one piece off and that hurt!

My NUT counts the day of surgery as day one. I was sleeved on June 1st and I saw her on June 9th and she moved me to real food the next day. -

Yes it does. At first you are getting 400 to 500 calories until you start eating solid food. Soft food stage when you eat scrambled eggs is typically 500 to 600 and then the real food stage is supposed to be between 700 and 900 - at least that's what my NUT told me. Both my surgeon and my NUT said not to worry about calories at all but to focus on getting the right number of grams of Protein a day and then eating veggies if I was still hungry. My NUT said 3-4 oz of protein a meal and then add veggies as needed. -
My surgeon told me it's actually the same glue they use in building airplanes! I had glue on the incisions. But the one incision where the drain was got covered with a gauze pad and tape for 2 days and then just big Band Aids for a couple more days until it had closed enough.

Sorry - that was 20 grams of Protein, not 30 for the Lean Cuisine. But they have some new ones labeled as high protein. I haven't checked them out yet. -
I took one week off. I was totally exhausted and spent a lot of that first week sleeping. I work from home full time. The second week I worked 4-5 hours each day. By the third week I was back full time. But I had to start working from the couch and the coffee table because it hurt my back really badly to sit in my desk chair all day.

The pre-op diet my surgeon uses and that the NUT gave me was pretty much the same as what your doctor is saying. I was to drink a Protein shake for breakfast or eat eggs, have either 3 oz of lean protein and a salad or a WW or Lean Cuisine meal with a salad. Same for dinner. The deal with the Lean Cuisine was that it had to have at least 30 grams of protein and be under 300 calories. -

Permanent? Well duh! I don't think anyone who had a sleeve went into it not knowing they were having anywhere from 75% to 85% of their stomach removed. It's not like it can be glued back on. You asked "You want to live with only 15-20% of your stomach and eat 4-6 ounces of food at a time? Forever?" Well yes, actually I do. That's what I signed up for. But I can eat more than 6 oz of food at a time. I can eat 6 oz of Protein and a serving of vegetables like a salad or some zucchini or green Beans. I don't need to eat a whole large pizza and a bag of potato chips like I used to. I don't need to eat ice cream and Cookies and candy bars. I feel so much better eating steak and salad. And I'm not in the least bit deprived. Yesterday for lunch I had a broiled lobster tail with a small salad. I'm sorry you had a bad experience but that doesn't mean the rest of us feel that way. And it doesn't mean someone going into the surgery will feel the same way. Actually I'd rather have most of my stomach missing than be dead which is where I was headed. And a lot of other people have that same situation. I only wish I had done this in my 20s. I missed a lot of my life being morbidly obese.
