Confused! Should I have a revision
hockeyfan7 replied to shoegal365's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My sleeve is bigger than typical because of some scar tissue at the point where the esophagus goes into the stomach. My surgeon made sure to line it up properly because he didn't want to run the risk of a leak there. -
VSG after long term band removal?
hockeyfan7 replied to samanthaftw's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a little confused - did you have a band in 2015? I would think if it's been a while since you had your band out you should have enough healing to withstand a sleeve. What does the doctor say? I had an all-in-one surgery - the band came out and the sleeve was done at the same time. My surgeon did warn me before the surgery that if I had any major scarring or issues with the band he might not be able to do it at the same time but that wasn't the case. -
E6 month revision
hockeyfan7 replied to Peggypja's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
No, mine was 3 years after the band. What does your surgeon say? Why are you wanting to revise so soon? -
My NUT and surgeon both had different opinions. My NUT said between 600 and 900 at 6 weeks out and my surgeon said 1000 to 1100. I have my MFP set to 1000 and try not to go over that each day. I do log and track everything including veggies.
-
I'm in my 6th week out. I track everything on MFP - even lettuce. I can be anywhere from 750 to 1000 calories a day depending on what type of meat I'm eating. I try to hit between 80 to 100 grams of Protein a day and stay below 40 grams of carbs. But the carbs are coming from fruit and veggies so I'm not as worried about them.

One thing that I found helped was using my son's old toddler spoons and forks. He's 7 now but I still have the Thomas the Train set of spoons and forks and I use those. Little teeny tiny bites - I cut my food up to the same size I used to cut up for him when he was 2 or 3. Chew everything to the consistency of applesauce before swallowing and one bite at a time.
-
I would contact your surgeon. I was sleeved the same day and I have none of that. I'm sorry you are going through this but to be vomiting at this point doesn't sound like it should be. I'd be calling your surgeon right away.

I have a question for you. Seriously how much did you REALLY eat? Did you totally pig out and eat thousands of calories or did you eat more than you would normally expect to at this point? I bet if you sit down and look at what you ate and wrote it down you might be surprised that it wasn't near as much as you think it was.

5 days post op...help Sleevers!
hockeyfan7 replied to ashley126's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just starting week 6 and I'm just starting to feel normal again. My biggest incision is still somewhat sore and I'm still feeling some tiredness but I can pretty much eat everything and I'm not wanting to sleep all day long. Hang in there - this is major surgery and it will get better. -
Intubation and Drain Tubes
hockeyfan7 replied to GirlOnFire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll be honest. The drainage tube was annoying. My surgeon has all sleeve and bypass patients spend 2 nights in the hospital and go home on day 3. The end of the tube was banging on my knees when I was trying to walk the halls and they ended up pinning it up to my gown. They drained it every 3-4 hours and it kept getting less and less. That incision was the only one that was sore. It wasn't painful when the nurse pulled it out when it was time to go home. It just felt a little uncomfortable and a whole lot weird. I had to keep gauze and tape over that incision for several days before I could switch to a bandaid. The intubation during surgery was no big deal. I don't recall even going into the operating room let alone anything that happened in there. Versed is a really good thing! -
When does the tiredness end?
hockeyfan7 replied to DojiGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved June 1st and I'm still experiencing a lot of being tired. The first 3 weeks was total exhaustion. I could barely do anything at all. I'd have to rest for 15 minutes after taking a shower. It's starting to get better now that I'm eating a lot of dense Protein. -
5 days post op and awful shoulder pain?!
hockeyfan7 replied to bvsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep I had it too. In fact, in the hospital on the 2nd day it was so bad I was almost in tears. They told me there was probably some gas trapped in there. I also had shoulder pain at home and figured out it was from using my arms more to push up off the couch, the chair, the toilet, etc. I used some muscle rub and a heating pad and it finally went away. I have to be careful how I push myself up from a sitting position on I can strain the muscle again. -
What is one thing you use the most post-op
hockeyfan7 replied to valcatlett4's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My food scale I also have to use to straws to drink or it's not happening. My couch - I'm a full time teleworker from home and sitting in a regular chair at the desk doesn't work. The couch with my laptop is much more comfortable. My Water bottle that I now take around everywhere. -
I think I'm eating to much can someone help me
hockeyfan7 replied to bobbie1363's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everybody's program is different. At 10 days out I moved to solids and was able to have lean Proteins and non-starchy veggies. Follow whatever your nutritionist and surgeon says and you'll be good to go. -
Band Broken again - looking to convert to Sleeve
hockeyfan7 replied to dcmoore56's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I didn't have that kind of problem but I went from band to sleeve in one surgery a month ago. Everything went well and I'm happy with the revision. I was throwing up everything even liquids. I don't miss that port at all! Good luck! -
Larger sleeve after Lapband?
hockeyfan7 replied to Tazwella's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon told me he only removed 70% of my stomach instead of the typical 80%. He didn't want to wrap the stomach too tight because of the scar tissue at the spot where the esophagus goes into the stomach. He wanted that to line up better to avoid the chance of leaks. I still have good restriction but no throwing up and pain when I eat. So far, everything stays down. I was never able to eat chicken with my band and now I can. I like the feeling of eating small portions without getting sick. And I do not miss having that port at all! -
Confused! Should I have a revision
hockeyfan7 replied to shoegal365's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Well is your band damaged or slipped or likely to cause issues? Does your doctor say you can leave it in there or if it needs to come out? Why does your doctor want to wait three months instead of doing the removal and revision in the same surgery? I don't have exactly the same restriction feeling but I still can't eat a lot of food. It's not like I can now pig out after having the band out and the sleeve done. But I can eat chicken now and I never could eat chicken in any form with my band. And I haven't thrown up since the sleeve. -
Banded in 2001. Questions about converting to Sleeve. Scared.
hockeyfan7 replied to VDLT's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a band in 2012. I also had a hiatal hernia repair at the same time which totally got rid of my GERD. Starting in 2014 I was throwing up pretty much everything I ate. We kept playing around with the fill levels but were never able to find the green zone. I was getting really frustrated - I was even throwing up things like ice cream. After talking with my surgeon I opted to have the band removed and a sleeve done. They completely unfilled my band in April and I had the sleeve done all in one surgery on June 1st. I don't regret it at all. I have not yet thrown up or slimed or had any stomach issues at all. I can eat pretty much everything. I'm eating some steak and salad right now. I still have restriction and get full after a reasonable amount but it stays down. And I can eat chicken again. I could never eat chicken after my band no matter how it was cooked or what part of the chicken it was. My surgeon did tell me that he only removed about 70% of my stomach instead of the normal 80% because he wanted to align with the scar tissue at the top where the esophagus and stomach meet so I wouldn't run a risk of leaks. I'm very happy so far with the change. And it's nice not to have that port in there which would hit a nerve and really hurt sometimes. -
My surgeon's pre-op diet was 3 meals of around 300 calories of lean Protein and non-starchy veggies and 2 Protein shakes a day. I didn't have to do an all liquid diet.

Best protein shakes!
hockeyfan7 replied to alisawoo22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only liked Syntrax. I liked the chocolate truffle best. But I also like the Caribbean Cooler, Crystal Sky, Peanut Butter Cookie, Twisted Cherry and strawberry. I have the grape but haven't tried it yet. I did not like the Cookies and cream but then I don't like Oreos either. -
Trouble with lack of hunger! Protein overload!
hockeyfan7 replied to VDB's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I eat a Qwest bar every morning for Breakfast - 20 grams of Protein. I am sick of Protein shakes and don't care if I ever see one again. I then try to get 25-30 grams at lunch and 25-30 grams at dinner. I eat chicken, lean steak, pork loin, shrimp, lobster, fish like salmon and halibut and any that isn't tilapia or mahi-mahi which I hate. I also eat crab and sometimes hamburger. I eat cheese too. -
Spicy foods tomatoe bases and acids!?
hockeyfan7 replied to alindsey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I ate chili when I was toward the middle of week 2 without Beans. I eat tomatoes every day now and I'm on week 5. No problems with them. -
Will my shoe size change too?
hockeyfan7 replied to halfpintvsg's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have lost 144 pounds since I started my weight loss journey and mine has not changed at all. -
It is frustrating on MFP to figure out the calorie count for small bites. I guess a lot when I can't figure it out. I probably overestimate but I guess that's better than underestimating.

I eat one pretty much every morning now for Breakfast because I'm sick of Protein shakes. I like the: chocolate brownie Cinnamon roll Apple Pie Chocolate Peanut Butter Peanut Butter Supreme Lemon My husband ate my strawberry cheesecake and peanut butter and jelly so I didn't get to try those.
