Eating out - I just need to vent.

Omg! I am sorry for you experience I live in the SF bay area also, and since I am pre- op I ask for kid portions at most places and do not have an issue. I wonder what establishment it is so I will know for the future. I would call corporate and just inform them everyone cannot eat large portions.

  4. I didn't think about scheduling the appointments beforehand. I'm getting my surgery in Richmond. Keep us posted if you can get the other Appts set before the orientation☺
  5. @@quiltermom65 I have my orientation on the 16th but my PCP has already sent my referral over last month and I had to do a seminar first beforehand. I am like you with the Water intake and eating better, and exercising more. Just to get ahead if the game. Who is your insurance carrier? I have Kaiser.
  6. I've told my father, mother, daughter (who is 11) and step mother. They were very supportive. I also have told 3 of my closest friends 2 have had wls, of course they were excited. I also told my sister in law she also had wls. However I told one of my cousins and she was like "oh... How long have you been trying to lose weight?" I did not react to the comment. She is probably 500+lbs, she kept saying I need to get back on track with eating healthy and working out. So after that conversation I won't say much about it to her because I don't need negative feedback or comments from her. My daughter didn't like the thought of mom having surgery, but I used that same cousin as an example of the reason why I want to embark on this journey. She fully understood. I haven't shared on social sites except instagram, under a different name. I just don't want to hear I took the easy way out.

    APPS FOR TRACKING

I use my fitness pal. And if you use map my walk it will sync your calories burned while working out
  8. I have Kaiser in Northern CA too. The program is really good and they make sure that you are educated and informed. I had surgery June 10 in Richmond and I was completely impressed with the care I received from the moment I walked in the door. I've lost 44.2 pounds since my orientation in late April, with 24 of that being since surgery. Take advantage of the services you are offered and best of luck to you. 44.2lbs! That's great! How long did the whole process take for you? Just curious. I am having my surgery in Richmond which is close to my house ... Less than a mile. My seminar went great, now I'm waiting for the orientation! Thank you !
  9. I have a question for the ladies? what types of birth control can you use after WLS? I currently use IMPLANON, and I was wondering if I have to take it out before surgery?

I have done the pill and the depo shots but never anything like implanon, I would consult with your doctor.

  12. I am new to the site and I have read each post, and I can relate to some of them. so the last straw was finding out I was prediabetic last year. I have been trying my hardest to lose the weight, however, when I lose the weight it comes back. I have always been fat my whole life, my 98 year old great aunt refers to me as the "plump girl." The next thing is i have a very active 10year old girl who has already ran 3 5k's starting at 8 years old. I want for us to be able to run one together. That's a goal. I want to be here for her and see her have a family and get married. I just knew I needed help to keep losing , so I've went to my doctor and poured my heart out about my weight and I was leaning towards wls, he proceeded to tell me I don't think your a good fit. Your still young and you can lose it on my own. He's right I am young, I am 33 but this has been a struggle for year and for you to offer me the weight management class and try to get me to pay for a program for them to fix my food for me was out the question. So I kicked him to the curb and my sis in law referred me to her PCP, because she had wls back in September 2013. I went last Monday and did the same pouring out to her and she agreed that was would be a great choice for me! I go to my first seminar on Wednesday, I have my orientation on 7/16! I'm ready to get this show on the road! I have Kaiser in northern California and its moving pretty fast. I'm just happy I went for a second opinion .

    How to bring it up?

I made my appointment with my regular Dr and told her I wanted to discuss my weight and I was leaning towards WLS She was very open and agreed with me and sent my referral over yesterday! Just let you doctor know that you have been struggling with your weight. Good luck!

I am not sure yet.. At first I was thinking the rny because I want to lose 100 plus pounds but I like the sound of the sleeve too. I'm so torn right now! lol

Do your research and that may help you to decide. I have the sleeve and am a month out. I weighed 331 in December and changed to high protein and low carb in anticipation of surgery...lost 45 pounds prior to surgery and have lost 15 more post op. I have 110 to go. I will get there. There are tons of people on here who have had success with all procedures so it is up to what is right for you. Your surgeon of course will also recommend what he/she thinks will work best for you.
