Surgery Success and Frustration
greenbaymichk replied to BizzyB's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sounds normal to me. I am 5 days out and spend 90% of my day drinking and planning my next pureed meal. Haven't yet gotten the expected 60 grams of Protein daily, but have come close to 60 oz of Fluid. I am counting on being healthy for the long-term, so I am taking one day at a time. Anger and depression are part of grief - you have lost part of what you were and are making the emotional adjustments necessary for growth and change. We enter this "adventure" with preconceived ideas about how things will go - when our experience does not equal our dreams, we feel disappointment and anger. You are in surgical recovery - be gentle with yourself and allow your body and mind to adjust to the massive changes that your are undertaking. -
" I am hoping to be able to get in the pool soon...not sure how healed I have to be! " My surgeon says two weeks - I feel your pain! I have arthritis in my ankles and feet, so I am looking forward to getting back in the pool…and the hot tub!

Agree with leaving at least 3-4 weeks recovery before returning to school. Brain fog is real - the combination of fatigue, pain and pain meds, and uber-concentration on hydration is taxing.

Where is everyone from?

I'm about at the same place (surgery 6/22) and am still weak. I am working on getting adequate Fluid intake between my naps! You probably had a urinary catheter during surgery - catheters can interfere with your ability to feel how full your bladder is after they are removed. Usually doesn't last too long.

Had my sleeve 6/22 and came home today. Had minor problems with keeping my oxygen saturation at normal levels right after surgery, so I spent a night in intermediate care (not quite ICU, but more monitoring than on the floor.) Moved to a regular floor after 24 hours, then home. Slightly sore, and working on getting liquid and protein in.

To the newly sleeved..... What does your daily diet look like so far.
greenbaymichk replied to mandaroo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved 6/22 - just came home. Sipping on fortified skim milk (skim milk with 3 tbsp powdered milk added for 18 gm protein.) Having trouble eating much but getting fluids ok (about 40 out my goal of 64 daily.) -
Gearing Up to Begin Pureed Phase
greenbaymichk replied to EmpressB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought de-boned rotisserie chicken at costco and blended it in the blender with Swanson Tuscan and Southwest broth, then froze it 1/2 cup packages. I can that one package at a time. Thinking of going back and getting some more, and mixing the Southwest brother with chicken and refried Beans. I haven't gotten to purees yet - how do those pouches tolerate refried beans??? -
I'm going in!

Losing Weight Before Surgery - It's Messing with My Head. Does anyone else feel like this?
greenbaymichk replied to jobillandjosh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same story here. I've lost 20 lb getting ready for surgery, and question whether I could continue on my own. Yet I am battling every day (especially during the liquid phase) just to stay on track. And I feel badly that I require drastic measures to regain my health. That being said, I need the sleeve as a tool to "get the job done" to lose weight and maintain the loss. It is nice to have a forum where folks at exploring the same issues. Sometimes I feel like a real head case! -
Favorite broths
greenbaymichk replied to majorsmama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like the Swanson flavored broths - Tuscan chicken and (?) Southwest Chicken. I also like the Thai chicken broth, but it is a little spicy. The spiced broths have really helped me during the liquid phase. -

Thoughts on your young children visiting you in the hospital
greenbaymichk replied to NCTRNL's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hospitals are not the best places for children - make the visits quick and move them along. I have concerns about exposure to antibiotic resistant bacteria more than anything else. Make sure they use hand gel on the way in and out, and wash thoroughly after leaving. That being said, a hug from a little one is the best medicine ever! -
The first two days are rough, but then your hunger diminishes. Try drinking warm broth - that's what got me through. And let somebody else cook dinner for the family - cooking dinner while on a liquid diet would be torture!!!
-
Looking forward to hearing about your progress - I'm scheduled for 6/23.
