What an a**h0le. It's amazing (and sad) what some people think they are allowed to say.
  2. I had this exact experience this morning... I almost put the pants back in the closet without even trying. It turns out, they're actually a bit too big!

    Sodas

I struggled with exactly the same thing... Diet Coke was my drink of choice and I had many throughout the day. I started by having smaller portions, instead of the 44oz, I got the 32, and then the 20. I can't say that it ever got easy before surgery, but I was able to completely eliminate it by the time I started my pre op diet. Now, 4 months after surgery, my head still thinks I might want some occasionally... I have humored myself twice and found that even a couple sips is just gross - so no more for me and no real desire for it either. You can do this!. Just think of it as a journey with milestones instead of something you have to do all at once.

    Catheter

I had a cath, they put it in after I was out. I was kind of glad to have it the first day... recovery was a bit roug: for the first 24 hours. Taking it out actually wasn't that bad either.
  5. I had a drain, it was the worst part of recovery. I changed the bandages every day and was sent home with new dressings to use. Surprising they didn't give you any instructions...
  6. Sounds exactly like my pre-op diet... just stick with it, it's only for a couple weeks.

    Bypass or sleeve ?

I had the bypass on August 17th and have lost 88 pounds since surgery, and just over 100 pounds since I started the process. I'm very happy with the results and plan on losing a few more pounds over the next few months. I chose they bypass because of it's longer history and because of the potential of reflux issues with the sleeve... I already had some minor reflux issues before surgery and didn't want to risk it getting any worse. I haven't really had any issues since surgery. It's very strange not being hungry and having no cravings - but that's how it's been since the day of surgery for me. I also haven't had any dumping symptoms, but then again I haven't ate anything with a lot of sugar in it. It's not a big deal for me since I don't have any cravings for anything sweet anyways.
  8. As it's gotten colder here in Michigan, I just can't seem to stay warm... especially at night. I started by buying a heated mattress pad, and today purchased a heated blanket to go with it. It seems crazy to need both, but this is this first time I've felt warm in weeks! My wife thinks I'm nuts, but since we have a king bed she can just keep her side turned off .

    jerkey

I like jerkey too (been eating it since 8 weeks out), but dumped on some yesterday... Guess I have to read the ingredients more carefully. I normally stick with plain or peppered, but ate some Terriyaki jerkey yesterday that had a lot of sugar.

    I'm finally warm!

I used to say I could sweat even if I was naked in a snow drift... but not anymore. It seems like no amount of clothes can keep me warm.
  11. I started my journey about 11 months ago. I've lost 97 pounds since then - almost 80 of them since I had my surgery in mid-August.

    Bathing

BTW, this was all in my discharge papers from the hospital. You should check with your surgeon in case your instructions are different.

    Bathing

I was allowed to shower the day after surgery... taking a bath was not allowed for some time. Basically you can get soap and water on the wounds you just don't want to soak them. No need for hydrogen peroxide.
  14. Flintstones Complete has iron in it.
  15. I take Flintstones Complete chewables twice a day, and Bariatric Advantage Calcium Citrate chews three times a day... keeping everything spaced out by 2+ hours. I just had my three month blood work and everything looks good - might have to back off on iron a bit.
  16. I wonder if some of the vitamins may have reacted with each other or the milk. I've had similar experiences and spacing things out seemed to prevent it from happening.
  17. I'm a 70, my wife is a 30-35. Love our Sleep Number bed because we can have it the way we each like. First time in years my back hasn't hurt from the bed being too soft.

    Question

The dye restrictions are only for the day or two before surgery because it looks like blood when doing the surgery if there is any residual fluid. I would stay away from purple as it's a combination of red and blue.

    Going Back to Work

I was sent home with a drain and was not ready after 1 week. I was out 3... but ready after 2. I still got tired and sometimes didn't make it the whole day through week 4 or 5 though.
  20. So, I'm about 7 weeks post-op and came to visit me friend for a week in Eastern Europe. It has been really hard to find things that my stomach is used to and are low in fat and sugar. The portion sizes are much smaller than in the US, but the food can be equally unhealthy (fried cutlets are very common even when the menu doesn't say it's fried). I've also not found any sugar free drink powders or Protein powders that are low in sugar. I commonly eat Greek yogurt at home and rely on it for a decent amount of protein each day... but all of the yogurt here has less than 5g of protein per serving (i couldn't find Greek)... it was very low in sugar. I did find two new teas that I really liked and settled my stomach. They're so simple I don't know why they aren't commonly served in the US. The first was simple fresh mint leaves and the second was minced ginger... just steep and drink. Luckily, I came prepared with my own protein and have been okay... But it's a lesson in not making assumptions about what may be available away from home.

    Traveling in Europe

I am having a great time, but would definitely recommend that you bring things with you so you can take care of yourself. What someone else thinks is healthy is not necessarily what we need at the various stages after surgery.

    I'm so tired.....

Had my surgery the same day as @cervidae. I've been napping a lot lately too. Must be normal because I'm not normally a napper.

Eating out 3 weeks after RNY

Refried beans, some soups (roasted red pepper, butternut squash, etc), scrambled eggs are some ideas. I could also have tuna during purees, so maybe a tuna melt...
