I weighed around 340 when I started. My goal weight was 210, I got down to 175 and currently weigh about 190 (building muscle). My advice is to really take advantage of the 6 months you have before surgery - there are a lot of new habits to form and you may as well start now! I also had the gastric bypass. #NoRegrets

Time off from work RNY vs Sleeve
axlr8n replied to AvrilMarie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was off two weeks, and when I first returned from work I was still pretty sore and got tired easily. I found that as long as I didn't have to be overly active (desk job), I was fine. The bathroom wasn't a huge deal because you don't eat much at first (little intake = little output). For me, the bathroom issue came later when I started exploring new foods and especially foods I shouldn't have been eating anyway (high sugar, etc.). -
Let's talk Vertical Thigh lift
axlr8n replied to imadethelist's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I'm interested in this too - I'm having a 360 body lift and vertical thigh lift at the same time... September 26th is coming soon! -
Doing great for day 3! Do you have drains?
-
I'm so glad you're doing well! Are they keeping you overnight? I'm considering a 360 body lift and thigh lift and they are saying it's done outpatient...

So, last night I was tired and went to bed early. I woke up about 3am to use the restroom and passed out while standing at the toilet... Bashed my face into the throne and then passed out again a couple minutes later while washing my hands. I was still feeling off this morning and went to the ER. I had eaten a fiber one protein bar and Greek yogurt before deciding to go in. They ran a few tests and have me fluids... My blood sugar was only 60 even after eating. I've never passed out or had problems with low blood sugar before. I had steak and baked potato for dinner and a pear for a snack before heading off to bed. Could the sugar in the pear have sent me into a hypoglycemic crash? Anyone have any experience with this 8 months after RNY surgery? From what I've read this seems like a problem people run into later after surgery (18-24 months) and usually from eating sugary foods.

3.5 weeks post op - are these things normal?
axlr8n replied to Jaguarftype's topic in The Guys’ Room
I think everything you said is pretty normal. Your body has gone through a lot is adjusting to a lot less food and that can make you light headed, tired, and just off your game a bit in general. You're still healing and adjusting mentally to the feelings of your new stomach and likely will be for 4-6 months or more. Every time you add thicker food to your diet you'll probably feel new things - sometimes it won't be pleasant at first and you'll have to try again later. -
I am 6'2, weighed 340 and wore a 44-46. I am now 185 and wear a 32-33 comfortably. I think a lot has to do with body shape, amount of extra skin, how comfortable you are showing your body, etc. I could probably wear a smaller size but still feel more comfortable with slightly lose fitting clothes.

So How Many Of You Guys Want To Actually Get Down To A Normal BMI?
axlr8n replied to Proud2BMe's topic in The Guys’ Room
My original goal weight was in the overweight category simply because I couldn't imagine weighing less than that (210), and I wanted to have a goal that was attainable. I blew right past that and have been in the healthy category for almost a year now. -
I was struggling with the same thing a few months ago. I'm 6'2 and my initial goal weight was 210 - which I would have been ecstatic with... but I blew right by that and have been maintaining between 180 & 185 since April. I'm okay with this weight, but definitely don't want to lose any more. I'll probably gain a few pounds of muscle in the next few months - I've been nursing a shoulder injury which has prevented me from lifting and really weakened my arms. I require around 2500 calories a day to maintain this weight given the amount of exercise I get. Similar to James, I have had to work on eating - focusing on calorie dense Protein and fats in order to get enough calories with the available volume. I eat 3 meals and 3-4 Snacks. Sometimes eating feels like a job... but if I don't stay on top of it, I start losing weight again. It sounds to me like your body wants to be less than 240... but I also think that you need way more than 900 calories. I would focus on adding more calorie dense foods (Peanut Butter, avocado, etc.) and upping your fat content as long as your body tolerates it (2% milk and yogurt vs skim, using some olive oil and dressings, etc.). Hope that helps!

I just moved to Chicago about 3 months ago. Love it!!! I'm 15 months post op and started seeing a family doc at Rush. Seems like a great facility. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I haven't posted any pics in a while (hit my stretch goal a couple weeks ago now), but this is my absolute favorite before and after and really summarizes the reason I had surgery. My little girl is getting bigger and I've gotten smaller... hopefully she keeps holding my hand for a while longer. They just get so big so fast!

Left side, G tube pain
axlr8n replied to RobingAlaska's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree - the tube was the worst part of my experience. The minute it came out, I felt better and my recovery seemed to progress faster. Keep doing what you can - Wednesday will be here soon! -
I've tested my sugar quite a few times over the past two days. It looks like my sugar runs on the low side most of the time and was 89 this morning when I woke up which is pretty consistent with my lab work whenever I'm fasting. I don't really see any trends so far comparing the sugar level to when I eat... often it seems like eating has no effect on my levels at all. I'm using My Fitness Pal to track my food again - but I don't know if it gets specific enough on the time that I'm eating to really be of benefit... might have to go with a paper log until I get this figured out.

Thank you - I'm okay. Definitely scary since I really had no warning... I didn't feel shaky, dizzy, etc. The doc at the ER told me to be extra diligent if I'm driving, near Water, up high, etc until I get this figured out completely because the consequences of passing out are really high in those situations. I'll be seeing my bariatric team ASAP next week.

The past couple weeks have been hard physically and emotionally - I fell and broke my shoulder and had surgery last Friday to repair it. Luckily, I'm over the worst of it and on my way to a long but what looks very optimistic recovery. I just keep thinking about all of the stuff I can't do likely for the whole summer - golf, biking, etc. At the same time, I hit my stretch goal weight that I really never thought I would! I was expecting to end up around 220 and thought that 190 was really a pipe dream. I'm excited, but also worried because my weight loss shows no real signs of slowing down! I lost 13 pounds in the last month, and that's after adjusting my calories so I'm eating around 1750-2000 calories most days (always 1500+). Honestly, I don't think I can physically stuff much more in! In the back of my mind, I know that I will reach an equilibrium at some point and it'll stop... but I'm 6'2+ and wear a size 32 jeans (I can easily fit into a 30) and I really don't want to get any smaller. Everyone makes it sound easy - just eat more. I feel like I'm stuffing myself to the gills already (3 meals + 3 snacks), and don't want to get into bad habits of grazing all day because I know in the long term that's a strategy for working around the surgery and gaining it all back. Anyone else gone through this? Any tips??

2400 calories, I can't even imagine getting that many. I struggle getting 1500 a day so far. How far post op are you? I'm 6 months Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App My surgery was August, so I'm 8 months. The only way I can do 1500-1700 right now is by eating every 2-3 hours. I'm going to struggle as well - but when I think about it I could do a shake made with milk and add in some Peanut Butter and that's around 400 calories right there. I've tried to eat real food instead of shakes, but maybe I'll have to add a shake back in for a while in order to get there.

That's awesome about your race, what an inspiration!! I saw the nut this afternoon. She told me that I shouldn't do anything too drastic because it's common for people to lose and then gain 10 pounds or so before they are settled in without making and significant changes in diet. She did recommend that I increase my calories to 2000-2400 mostly by adding fats to my diet (higher fat yogurt, oils, nut butters, olives, avocado, etc) and monitor for a couple months. If I'm still losing then we'll probably do some blood work to check for thyroid issues and go from there.

The Biggest Loser and Regain: Share Tips and Self-Reflection
axlr8n replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
That is so sad and I feel so bad for her... I've done it myself in the past and know how horrible I felt. Erik from season 3 did the same, and so have others from the show. For many of us, this is more about emotions and addiction than just knowing how to lose weight... and the BL program doesn't seem to help too much with that. -
Thanks - I think I'm pretty comfortable at this weight... I just don't want to lose 10 more pounds in the next month which I think is pretty likely unless I do something different. I'm just not sure what that "different" is. I'll let you all know what my Nut says after I talk to her on Monday.

I buy Protein bars, have done so several times and had good luck. The BP brand bars are also sold as wonder slim and other brands too. I like the crispy fudge and crispy cinnamon the best. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

This is the attitude I had when I was 220 and I enjoyed it a lot, but now that I'm under 190 I seem to be freaking out like a little girl, LOL. Maybe it's the drugs I've been on... who knows. Anyway - I have an appointment with my Nut on Monday and I'll talk it over with her. If other people weren't telling me that I've lost enough and am looking really thin, I'd probably just blame it on the fat guy in my head. It's not like I'm emaciated... I guess it's hard for everyone when I've gone from the biggest guy in the group to one of the skinniest in a matter of months.
