I'm getting banded Thursday courtesy of BC BS FEP, so I'll have an answer for you in a couple of months. But I find it hard to believe that a fill at a doctor's office usually done by a PA could be categorized as "surgery."

Well, tonight the Pizzaman had his last slice of Neapolitan heaven for a long time because tomorrow he starts his one week pre-op diet for the banding. pizza is not on the menu. Oh mama mia! :faint:

I have about 100 pounds to lose (I'm 6'1" 290ish) which I think I'll be able to accomplish within a year. I really believe this because once I lose about 50 or pounds, I can get into a pretty vigorous exercise routine at the same time. If I reach my goal and my band is completely opened, would I be able to return to a normal diet, if I chose to? Or is the band, even fully opened, too restrictive?

Candle, I've only seen him once - at the initial consultation. What I did like is there was no "hard sell." It seems like he has a very good staff.
-
Candle, you and I have the same doctor!

Is that something I really need to get into here? It's a long story and it involves a serious injury - which has healed. What I was just trying to find out if a completely open is restrictive, and from what I am reading it is not. Thank you for your replies.

List for the overnight hospital stay

My insurance company (Empire BC/BS) approved the procedure as an out-patient, but my doctor says IT WILL be medically necessary for me to spend the nght. -
Please don't misunderstand what I am trying to say. I'm not going to get banded, lose 100 pounds and then bury myself in a tub of Ben & Jerry's. I used to live a life of sensible eating (mainly healthy with an occasional splurge) accompanied by frequent exercise. I want to see a light at the end of the tunnel and know that once I reach my goal, I can have an occasional slize of pizza.

I'm sure I probably would get hungry, but my weight would be where I want it and I can exercise vigorously (I was an athlete at one point in my life) because all the baggage that had attached to me would be gone. But would the wide open band still restrict what I can eat?

Thanks Ilene Did you strictly adhere to the Medifast preop diet? If so, how much did you lose. I start it tomorrow.

I'm a patient of Dr. Geiss. Surgery - 01/10/08.
-
My FEP plan (NY) approved the procedure but as an out-patient. Anyone else encounter this problem? Doc says I spend the night at the hospital.
-
I'm being banded 1/10 by Dr. Geiss. What I really liked about him, aside from his credentials, that he didn't try to hard sell me on the procedure.

Kristin, not drinking a little something with a meal kinda scares me. How long did it take for you to get used to not drinking with meals? I get banded next week.

See my screen name! I LOVE pizza.

I'm set for January 10th and am nervous as hell about it. I know it's going to be a good thing, but still ... :straight
