I had SIPS surgery 6/8/15. I'm so happy I had this surgery and I'm feeling and looking fantastic, EXCEPT my hair!! First think I've noticed is my hair was becoming dry and frizzy and falling out, ALOT. I am so subconscious, that I wear my hair up so no one notices. I also am Hypothyroid, but my levels have recently been checked and are where they should be. I take my Vitamins every day, (3) Bariatric Advantage Ultra Multi Formula, (1) 500 mg Bariatric Calcium Citrate, (1) 1000 mg Evening primrose oil, Vitamin B Complex lots of it. Has anyone gone through this? Will your hair regrow? HELP!

Thank you all for responding! Come to think of it, I'm not getting all of my Protein. Didn't think about the dense protein going to try that. I am taking lots of Biotin, also bought a moisturizing conditioner. Perhaps just being patient while this weightloss levels out some is the key. Thank you for your input.

Awful smelling stool and gas
SIPSGrammy replied to Pamela Raab Campbell's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I'm 7 months out and still have the smelly poo & gas is awful.. I feel like a walking sewer system! Doesn't matter what I eat, however, anything fatty, Beans and dairy have the worst effect on me. Hope this all resolves one day. -
SIPS Patient 4 weeks Post Op. Need to talk to people who have been in the same boat. HELP!
SIPSGrammy replied to TheeThee82882's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
This is normal if you are eating too much and too quickly, especially if you are not eating the right kinds of foods. I'm 6 months out. -
It's been 6 months since surgery for me.. I find the more fat, sugar and calories I eat, the more I have gas/shitz I get too, Especially in the mornings.

I had my surgery 6/8. down 77 lbs. I feel great! Went from a size 24 down to a 20 (loosely). I still have my little cravings for things like ice cream, popcorn, chips...(it's funny, I never snacked like I do now) I find myself not being able to eat very much at all, and eating slowly I'm still working on. And when I don't eat slowly and take time to chew, my tummy tells me and so does my throat! I end up in the bathroom heaving and throwing up. When I eat anything that's too fatty, including too much sugar, my body tells me that too (very loose stools). This surgery is very restrictive as well as malabsorptive. I can only eat 1/2 cup of low carb veggie and maybe 1/2 cup of Protein (meat). Just to think before the surgery, I was eating an entire plate of food and looking for more!! I've learned so much about myself. I know the difference now about real hunger and just wanting to eat (emotional). Good luck to you both!

Newbie - Pre-Op - Moving from SIPS to DS
SIPSGrammy replied to JenKapNC's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
How do you like Dr. Bruce so far? I love his calm demeanor! Very pleased I chose him to do my surgery. I'm seeing so many posts from others that had VSG and now going to DS. I'm so happy I had the SIPS..if I hadn't had it, I would have went with the VSG. Knowing myself, I would be back in a year or two going to the DS myself. You are going to do great! -

@@Seabreeze06, I have to do the same from time to time, staying away from websites..it's good for the mind. I am doing well, although I have been cheating eating some foods, for some reason, I am craving, i.e., popcorn?! Although, I cannot eat much of it, just enough to satisfy. Honestly, it's been hard trying to get in 90-100 grams of Protein a day! I can drink fluids okay, with small frequent sips, eating Soups, soft foods are okay as well. I tried eating breaded pork chop one night and I swear, I think it took hours before I actually digested it. I've noticed too, that one week, I won't lose a pound and the next week I lost 5 lbs! It's been crazy!! I also have not been diligent in taking my Vitamins.. a BIG NO NO. So, starting tomorrow, I've got my vitamins all lined up after my morning Protein shake or yogurt. I am very pleased thus far with my weight loss.. Surgery weight was 276 and today I'm 240 lbs! Keep us posted on your surgery status! Looking forward to reading your posts! -

@@Seabreeze06, No I do not know anyone with BCBS of NC that recently had it done. My insurance approved the SIPS, but then I got a call from Dr. Bruces office saying that Rex was no longer performing this type of surgery. So I made the decision to just go with the sleeve. Next thing I know, I get another call from the insurance person, Christy, from Dr. Bruce's office and was told she got it approved for the SIPS?! I was confused and excited all at the sametime. I had it done June 8th @ Rex. I'm still a little confused as to the reasons for approval then the hospital not doing it..however, I believe it was something between the insurance and the hospital. -

@@stevodreo, The drainage tube was in my stomach. It caused some irritation and that was the most pain I felt from the surgery. I have to say, I am surprised that I experienced literally no pain. My incisions are just about all healed and 2 of them you can't even tell I had laproscopic surgery at all. A week after surgery, I returned back to work, with no problems at all. I work in an office. -
@@nueva919 I had SIPS surgery on the 8th as well by Dr. Jon Bruce! How are you doing? I'm doing well, with the exception of passing gas and the poopies. First post-op appt is Tuesday June 23rd. Hope I can start on pureed food. OH and the head hunger has been messing with me too... ups and downs with that as well. Good Luck to you!

@@JenKapNC have you contacted Chrissy @ Bariatric Specialist of NC? She is the insurance person... she got my SIPS approved! I just had my surgery on 6/8/15 @ REX. I have United Healthcare and my original surgery date was June 1st, until Connie called me and said it was cancelled..something about the insurance and the hospital. But it all worked out and got it pushed through. -

SIPSGrammy replied to stevodreo's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Hello! I had SIPS surgery done June 8th! The worst thing about it was the drainage tube, it was very uncomfortable until it was removed the day I went home! Mouth was very dry after surgery, but that's to be expected. As soon as you are up to it, do a lot of walking in the hospital to get the gas moving. I had very minimal gas and minimal pain. I was sent home with liquid pain pain killer, nausea meds, and prilosec. None of which, I had to take! The ONLY struggle I had during the first week was "head hunger". I wanted a cheeseburger, popcorn, etc... and you may "think" you are hungry, but really, you're not.. Week 2 for me, has been a little bit easier and I don't want those things as much as I did. My weight at surgery was 276, my current weight today is 265! Good luck!! -
@@maggie876, I just had the SIPS surgery done June 8, 2015 with Dr. Jon Bruce. I don't have any issues with bile reflux. Although, I did have a hiatal hernia that was repaired during surgery. I had no idea I had one! I originally wanted the gastric sleeve, then read the information on SIPS and chose to go with the SIPS. My insurance approved it no problem ( United Healthcare). My surgery date was originally June 1st. Then I got a call from Dr. Bruces office saying that I couldn't have the SIPS done because of something with REX hospital that I didn't quite understand, what I did understand was that REX wasn't going to do the SIPS anymore because they wouldn't be covered by insurances because SIPS was still considered "investigational". I then decided to get the gastric sleeve, went back to the office to re-sign papers, etc.. and new surgery date was June 8th. A couple days before surgery, I get another call from surgery coordinator saying I needed to thank Christy, Insurance coordinator because she spoke with my insurance and now I was able to have the SIPS surgery at REX!!! I didn't even question it! You may want to speak to Christy about what the deal is with the insurance to find out exactly what's going on. Perhaps she can shed some light on things for you.
