If you are in the las vegas area let's start a thread going for support. I am scheduled to have VSG on July 9th. I will love to network with some locals and hear your stories and progress. My doctor is Tom Umbach. My procedure will be done at North a Vista hospital in North las Vegas.

Hello All, Let's start a thread for July sleevers. I will love to see ideas for liquid diets, and prep for the big day. To start I am scheduled to be sleeved on 9July15. I will have my pre op on 24Jun15 (so I will update the do's and dont's at that time). I am excited and nervous for this big change. My fear is I don't like most of the things we can have on the Pre and Post Op diets so I am wondering how well I would do. After reading many many post I discovered most people state it's easier after the sleeve due to taste bud changes, the love for food disappearing and the non hunger feeling so I am looking forward to that. I believe the 2 week Pre Op diet is what's going to kill me. Please share some recipes and enticing tips to make these 2 weeks of food hell a little better. I look forward to chatting with you all and Congratulate you all for making the biggest decision for your health. Together we can do this!

Ok so I am 11 days out and discovered I have lactose sensitivity or intolerance, which sucks because I am on protein shakes and Greek yogurt and applesauce. I stocked up on rtd premier shakes which apparently have a milk base so of course it makes me nauseous. Then the yogurt turns my sleeve in all kind of ways then bam I'm making a mad dash to the bathroom not knowing which end it's gonna come out of. I'm so confused but I have an appointment with my doc tomorrow to discuss my options, but the good thing is I go to puree stage in 2 days. Fighting this head hunger and can only have sweet stuff like sf jello and sf popsicles an unsweetened applesauce is killing me. I also added in Prevacid to stop the gurgling in my stomach makes me nauseous as well. Humph I can't win for loose here. The struggle is real here but is almost over. Stats HW 343 SW 331 CW 314.5 It appears I am loosing about 2 lbs a day so that's good but wow I wanna eat so bad. If anybody ever say this is the easy way out I want to smack them. This by far is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. Just fighting the head hunger alone is so hard especially when your family is endulging in yummy stuff that you just can't have and half of the time you have to prepare it for them. Share your post op experiences!

Thanks I saw my doc he gave me an IV with some strong nausea meds and I go back tomorrow for another treatment but I feel like a million bucks right now lol. I'm back to my happy place and weighed in at 310 today wooohooooo! And come to find out I was 339 on day of surgery with the excess gas so even more loss since surgery. Oh and he advanced me on the diet he said I am doing great to start eating soft foods yayy. #winning

Yes i had to order some powders waiting for it to arrive, I do have a few sample packs from pre op when I was trying different things to find what I like so I am currently mixing some with decaf over ice. Thanks

Calling Las Vegas Sleevers!

Tamatha222 I have Aetna federal, you can call to see if your employer pays for the Bariatrics coverage. What I'm finding is you can have the same insurance but it's if your employer opted for the coverage. Best of luck. -
What "negatives" are you experiencing?
beuTwithin replied to WLJourneyJ's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
Jengilligan anytime hun. I am truly touched by your situation and praying for you. I'm glad you have counseling arranged try to block out the negatives let the positives and where you want to be override your sad emotions. Seek the happiness you and your fiance deserves, try thinking about or going back to the place where it all started why yall fell in love why you chose him and why b he chose you. I have read alot about people just feeling depressed after surgery. Can you recall what it is that makes you unhappy about getting a second chance at being healthy, did you do it for you or the world? Try and fin a local wls support group and a psych that focuses on these things. Best wishes and I am here for you hun! -
I am 8 days post op and I am hungry. I have read post saying it's not hunger you are thirsty and drink and eat stupid sf Popsicles and drink bland broth. NNNNOOOOO ITS NOT WORKING! For the time that it takes yo consume the liquid I am fine but shortly thereafter I am experiencing hunger pains. I do have head hunger I know but stomach hunger is real too. I never been an overrated meaning eating large portions, I just chose the wrong foods to consume and never worked out. So in saying that I know when I'm hungry and I'm getting so frustrated with these post telling me I'm not. I am weak on and off as if I'm not getting enough calories in to sustain for the day to keep active. HHHEEELLLLPPPP MEEEE!!!!!!

beuTwithin replied to WLJourneyJ's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
Jengilligan so sorry to hear you're having a hard time. First please stop and pray. I can say that the changes you are going through with the meds can have you extremely moody and emotional and causing your fiancé to become frustrated. I don't think he just doesn't love you he just may not know how to deal. Take that into consideration. Just as it isn't easy for you to go through the changes with the disorder it's even harder for someone who doesn't know what you are going through. Ask him to attend your appointments and ask questions so that he can better help you and himself. Seek counseling for the relationship but most of all for yourself. God bless you! -

Here is what you said Girl, brutal honesty here and NO judgement. I have a hard time believing one could hit 340+ pounds without overeating. Again, no judgement, I myself was the biggest over eater you can imagine. I'd suggest doing your best to NOT listen to your body. Weigh, measure and track everything. It's easy to nibble, lick, chew, sip an extra 1,000-3,000 calories a day without even realizing it and our bodies/ brains will scream for more despite our best intentions. This is the time to break that cycle and hit a healthy weight. It's hard, it sucks, it blows, but you CAN do it. If I can, anyone can. And I'm done with it and you be blessed! -

Initially I wasn't going to respond but the person that hates denial in me made me do it do here you go. Lipstick lady thanks for your brutal honesty but I must say you are wrong way wrong. I will not be posting a lie on a Bariatrics support site as we all are here for the same purpose and quite frankly what landed you here is not the same reason that got us all here. This is my journey and I want to be as open about MY PROGRESS, MY EMOTIONS AS POSSIBLE. I know me you don't so you are passing judgement in what you think is support. Remember in the future that there is a thin line between your truth and judgement so be careful how you approach. I did not say I went and ate fast food because I was hungry, I did not say I added in Snacks, I did not say I was going to continue to eat what I want, I did not say I was giving up on making my tool work for me. I just simply said I had 5 spoonfuls of a puréed Soup a couple days early so that basically I won't pass out and have some energy to accomplish my day to day task. And it worked for me. To everyone else thanks for the suggestions and recommendations I will try the antacid today but for now the feeling is gone. But again I will be proactive trying to avoid it again because I was honestly fearful behind the way I felt, so much so that I could hardly stand in the shower long enough to wash the soap off. I am not going to go so hard on something that I will allow myself to be harmed in any way or be afraid to leave the house because I'm on the verge of passing out. I live in Vegas where is 110 on any given day so imagine that. As for the rest of my journey bare in mind that I am still on liquids but I get what you guys are saying about planning meals and measuring, I will definitely do that when I get to that point. I just simply think that my body will be much happier when I can get to that point of nourishment. So again thanks for the support sleevers take care! -

That is not what you are doing at all. You now have another example that you can try to deny. Go ahead, tell sleevenchica that she couldn't possibly have a stretched pouch because you and some other idiot surgeons say it can't happen. Don't waste your time going back and forth with lipstick lady. I have found that she us a very negative and condescending individual. I had my run in with her and told her how I felt and she responded with that Same sarcastic ok and winky face. Do your research and get your corrective surgery. This is your journey not hers and you and your surgeon know what's best for you! -

Congratulations guys for joining us on the losers bench. This by far is not easy. I am still struggling with myself and can't seem to keep food off my mind. Hopefully when I can get to puree stage it will all change. -

Thanks all I really appreciate all your feedback. My Nut not available until monday and I have an appointment with the surgeon on Wednesday so I will be discussing the issue with him. Until then I did go buy the Prevacid and took it for the first time yesterday and I'm not exactly sure it's working lol. But I will continue to take it and fight through this feeling. I have struggled to get my Protein in by shakes so I ordered unjury unflavored to add to Water with crystal light as I was told by the nut before was ok so for now I'm just force feeding myself the Protein Shakes I have. I am glad to report I have not pureed anymore soup just simply dealing with it until I get the go ahead from the doc. Again thank you all for taking the time out to encourage me it really means alot! Thank you guys for the encouragement I tried calling my Nut but the office is closed so I took it upon myself to blend soup and ate it and for sure about 5 small spoons I instantly felt better. So I will try doing this once a day until Monday then tell my nut what's going on maybe she will just move me ahead onto purée because I need to go back to work and I can't do it weak like that. -

I saw my Dr. On Monday for IV therapy didn't have this issue start until Wednesday but I have been pouring through. The pain isn't lower I actually didn't take pain meds at all after being discharged. I didn't even have to take anything for nausea or constipation because I didn't get a lot of pain meds. The Myers cocktail that was given to me was 2 weeks worth of all the Vitamins and hydration needed to heal so I haven't taken anything by mouth. I think because of it I am healing fast causing me to be ready to feed my sleeve I call Minnie lol. The Protein shakes are making me dry heeve but I still push through to get it in. I have even tried drinking other protein enriched drinks like slim fast and carnation instant Breakfast to help get the full feeling. Those were things left over from pre op. It works for anoint an hour then boom hungry again. On the upside I am down 29 pounds which can to be a bit fast so my body searching for nourishment. Thanks for the feedback. -

Thanks but I have to disagree with that, I read that as well but now way is it acid reflux as I suffered from that pre surgery and I am aware of the feelings that it comes with. When I say I am hungry I'm sure it's hunger. -
July Sleevers! Let's chat!
beuTwithin replied to beuTwithin's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hello all a quick update. I was sleeved on Jul 9th. I feel amazing no pain gas gone and dropping weight. My HW 343 SW 333 CW 323 that's a 10 pond lost in 5 days not the best but definitely progress. My struggle is definitely getting the required amount of liquids. Once I do 4 ounces of Protein shake that's sweet I try to sip Water but then I have that nasty taste so I try crystal light can't get much of that in because it's sweet. I can't stomach plain Greek yogurt so I tried Greek 100 flavor yogurt I can get about 1/3 of that down before either I just don't want it no more or I start burping crazy (a sign of being full I guess) then by the time I wait to drink I'm really not thirsty or my sleeve that I call Minnie starts to cramp so I don't want to drink either. But overall I feel amazing. Let me know how yall ate doing post op. Tiff -
Nicotine pre op some one help me!
beuTwithin replied to nisey2800's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you don't have a history of smoking the usually won't test you. I know for me i didnt get tested but it was mentioned that they do nicotine test. Basically if you have already been approved for the surgery I don't think the doctor will pass that guaranteed payment up. Yes we want to believe that the docs genuinely care about us but I'm pretty sure he has overhead to pay lol. You should be fine just don't make a habit out of it. Best wishes on your journey I was sleeved on July 9th and I feel amazing 4 days later! -
I have aetna open access and my requirements where 3 months supervised visits with nut and doc don't gain any weight you can lose though BMI of 40 and or 2 comorbidities like diabetes and I got approved quick just be certain which date you want because they approve the day specified by your doctor's office. I had my procedure on the 9th and I feel great. There were some out of pocket expenses of course like my pre op class and meds oh and hospitals copay.

Omg! That pain yesterday was unbearable. If it weren't for my husband I would have list it on them nurses. Today us a lot better of course not 100% but from where I was yesterday I feel like a million bucks.
