The Good & the Bad 7 day Post-Op
MIMISAN replied to TodayItEnds's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good job and thanks for the information! I bet your wife was terrified for a while. It might be a good thing that you no longer love the flavors you use to love. -
@CowgirlJane Like CowgirlJane says, he may like fuller figures and then didn't know what to say once you mentioned that you were heading towards thin. If he doesn't follow up then he wasn't the one. However I have a brother in law that had the sleeve done a couple of years ago. He isn't a spring chicken anymore prob around 62 or so and even though I am sure he is healthier, he does look gaunt to me. Especially in the face. This begins to happen to us older folks anyway as we lose the fat in our faces and our wrinkles show more. Then if we excelerate that by losing lots of weight it will probably be more noticeable. I know I told my husband that he may not realize who he's married to if I lose 100 pounds but I assured him that I would continue the same bitching I always do so he won't be able to forget!

@TinyTink Good tip, I hadn't thought about practicing the chewing early.

Did they remove your gall bladder during surgery or do you still have it? If you mentioned this I missed it. Why don't you change the info under your picture, it shows you to be a female. -

During my process to get approved for surgery my cardiologist insisted I have a PET scan that indicated I had a blockage so I went in for a heart catheter and ended up have 2 stents. My recovery from that was so easy I was shocked. In fact I have felt so much better after the stents I was surprised. Why do you have to sleep upright for your stent did they say? My problem is that now they are making me wait 6 months after the stent for my WLS because of the blood thinner medication. -

MIMISAN replied to AmyQwith2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@AmyQwith2 I wouldn't think the pre-op diet for you will start until a couple of weeks before surgery. My surgery is scheduled for the March 1st and I will be starting my pre-op diet on Feb the 16th. -

I was a totally addicted Coca Colaholic, and when I decided to quit I thought it was going to be a lot harder than it was. I was lucky and had no head aches that could be totally tied to it. However I was eating at least one chocolate Protein shake or Atkins bar initially and I wonder if what ever makes their chocolate may have something that took the edge off. -
Excess Skin: And the Emotional, Thick Skinned Woman
MIMISAN replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
This is exactly why I didn't do some kind of weight loss surgery 5 years ago because I felt like I would rather look like a younger fat gal than a thin wrinkle. I had 2 of my doctors ask if I had considered it and I always said no. Then one day it suddenly hit me that my health was making me a burden on my husband and I felt like such a stone around his neck. He never made me feel that way it just hit me one day that I might have to ask him to wash my keester! Now I am 62 and I called him and asked him what he would think of me having the surgery. He said if that's what I wanted to go ahead but it was my call and that he loved me either way. I asked what he was going to think when I looked like an ugly Sherpai dog and he said it was not a problem for him no matter what. I called and started this ball rolling. I finally decided that aching feet, knees and joints were worse than wrinkles. I know that I am not going to like the wrinkles but unless I can talk insurance in to paying for surgery I will probably have to learn to love them. I will also find it hard to spend big dollars fixing something I can live with when I am 65 or over. Sometimes I am to practical However, I have been known to change my mind, so if my butt keeps catching up with me and knocking me down, I may reconsider. -

My 600 Pound Life: 2016 Season
MIMISAN replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am a terrible person sometimes with a quirky sense of humor and I always say self deprecating things about myself to my husband and others. Mainly to let them know they don't have to walk on eggshells around me and there are probably many other subconsciously buried reasons. Anyway, my husband who is a very average size guy usually watches with me. I am a 300 pounder myself and I remember one of the first shows we watched was a woman of over 600 pounds and of course she was showering and we were both looking horrified. Then I looked at my hubby and said "I bet I'm looking pretty good to you about now" Well, he almost choked on his beer, but sometimes I have to lighten the severity of shows like that because they are to real and I think of me or my loved on in worse condition than I am already and don't think I could bear it. -

My 600 Pound Life: 2016 Season
MIMISAN replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think they pay for the surgery and everything included. Maybe even the apartments that most end up staying at but that's just a guess. They can afford to do this if people watch the show because they are making big money from it. I think they have to be accepted as a candidate and probably sign their rights away and agree to be filmed while showering! Most doctors won't do surgery on the super morbidly obese so Dr. NOW is probably getting patients left and right that will pay their own way. -
Have any of you tried KIND BARS? If I really want to crunch and chew these bars can hit the spot. They have some fantastic flavors and even though they are not sugar free they are very low in sugar without using sugar alcohols. I am posting a picture of one of my favorites. In my area they can be purchased at HEB Grocery and at Walmart. I should add these wouldn't be good for new sleevers but maybe for a few months out and maintenance.

My 600 Pound Life: 2016 Season
MIMISAN replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@Inner Surfer Girl I did watch that too and I am always amazed at how one gets so fat by the time they are 22. She didn't get that fat without having enablers and her mom was definitely that. Her dad was too but he was trying to convince himself that he wasn't. Nikki was absolutely a beauty even as large as she was but I bet she is stunning once she is in the 200-250 area and I hope she gets there and more. I LOVED her hair. The amount of food she ate prior to surgery was astounding to me and I even thought she was eating to much after surgery but at least she was losing. I think he said that he couldn't do the gastric bypass because her liver and heart were to enlarged and that he had to do the sleeve which can be almost as effective. I was very happy that she was able to do more at her job and at home after surgery and I hope they do a review of her at the end of the year. Also agreed, I don't need these people to be humiliated while we watch them shower and toilet. -
I have bursitis in my hips, one more than the other. I have had Xrays but I still think they are just guessing. I am really hoping that once I get the surgery and lose some of the added me that I will be giving my hips a break and it will hurt less to walk more.

@NewSetOfCurves Whoa...spiral thigh lift? What the heck is that? By the way did your insurance cover that? I keep telling my husband I am going to look like a melted candle.
