Junk Food Advertising or The Bane of My Existence
MIMISAN replied to The Candidate's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I also get sick of those food commercials. No wonder this country is JUMBO size . Between the food commercials and the sexy commercials we can't get a break. -
It's amazing how my husband sees me..
MIMISAN replied to Soon2beslimSamantha's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There are lots of reasons someone might have that kind of response and most of them are selfish. Remember he might love you just the way you are, or he might be comfortable knowing that he always has an eating partner or that if he keeps you fat and happy he doesn't have to worry so much about anyone trying to steal you away. It could also be that he knows you will be a buzz kill for a while and not fix him lovely munches. I hope he rethinks it if you really need the surgery. -
Actually it will probably be considered cheating on a new years resolution right? I resolve to lose weight and oh by the way I had the gastric sleeve.

I met with my NUT today for the first time.
MIMISAN posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At least its good that I can finally say that. Since I have to go thru 6 months of it, I am glad I like her. The sad truth is that she didn't tell me anything that I don't already know. I have been around a lot of years and on a lot of diets. I have the knowledge its just that I don't have the will power. That's what got me in this shape. Hopefully with the nutritionists help and then the sleeve that will kick me over the edge to long lasting success. -
Right now I am in my 6 month supervised dieting and I can already tell that my worst thing is going to be Breakfast. I am normally a breakfast carb eater like Cereal or rolls etc. Quick and simple. Since cereal is out of my diet and I am not a fan of cooking breakfast can you guys help me out with suggestions? I don't want to just have Protein drinks every morning.

I need help with breakfast

I realize I will be doing a lot of drinks after the surgery that's one reason I want to avoid them so much now but maybe what I need to do is open my mind to food that isn't traditionally breakfast -

Thanks for the tip, I will ask the nut -
During my meeting the the Nut yesterday she suggested that I journal to help me through the 6 months supervised dieting and also to continue after my sleeve in December. Do most of you journal? Has it been helpful?

Journaling, suggested by the NUT
MIMISAN replied to MIMISAN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took it to mean to journal anything related to my experience. My foods, my exercise and my feelings about food that might come up once I can't eat what I want. Also noting possible triggers etc. -

By the way your Nut doesn't seem very interested. My group wants hi protein, low carbs and I have to follow up and weigh monthly. -

I actually like the shakes and can see using them as a Meal Replacement but my co-workers may have to wear gas masks! Is there anyway to combat that? I am sure they use sugar alcohols because that happens to me anytime I eat sugar alcohols. -

No one is noticing:-(

What kind of supervisor makes a comment like that under any circumstances?! Rude beyond belief! Depending on where you start weight-wise will depend on how soon others notice. 50 pounds from a person over 250 is harder to discern than off a person around 200. Most people are more interested in what is going on in their own personal lives than what is going on in ours. Try to understand that they are just preoccupied with their own stuff! I agree with Shustar, what kind of supervisor says that??? I also agree that once you are in the 250 and up range it is harder to tell when people lose weight unless you really have an eye for detail. I could easily lose 40 lbs and no one would know but me. There are a lot of reasons for that but in my case I wear my close loose anyway because I don't want to advertise my fat rolls. Sometimes we hide it to well. There will come a time when they suddenly notice. I would wait and enjoy that time. -
I realize that everyone is different but for those of you that work out of the house, how much time were you required to take off work after surgery? How much did the Dr. want you to take and was it necessary?

No Wonder I Wasn’t Skinny!
MIMISAN replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is an interesting post and I have thought about this often but unfortunately I really can't blame my parents for my shapely physique (ROUND IS A SHAPE). My family was a the lower end of the income ratio. We were probably poor enough to be on assistance but in my household that would not be acceptable. So we made do. My mom was a good cook even though she did cook like everyone did in the 50's and 60's. Everything was full fat and fried and my dad was fairly insistant on gravy and bread with almost every meal. We had fresh cow milk, homemade butter because we milked the cow! We considered it lucky to get 3 meals a day and usually one of them was a sandwich. There was no real snacking at our house unless it was a mayonnaise sandwich. We didn't have goodies and Cookies in the house because my parents couldn't afford it. We did not eat out at all. I never remember going into a sit down restaurant with my parents EVER. Once in a blue moon my mom would splurge and we would go get a bag of hamburgers and in those days you could get 5 for $2 ! WOW I AM OLD. About 4 times a year they would buy a half gallon of vanilla ice cream and a six pack of cokes and we would all have a coke float.. Even eating full fat food you don't get fat if you aren't getting to gorge and we never felt really full. Since we also had chores and had to play outside we worked off our food. I was still the largest child in the house and out of five kids I was always bigger than everyone else. I wasn't really fat but I FELT fat because my sisters were little thin things and I was bigger boned and looked nothing like my mom who I thought was beautiful. As my story unfolded I got knocked up by the first guy that told me he loved me and had to get married. I gained 60 lbs with that first baby and kept it on because I had no one to tell me to quit eating crap! My weight kept sneaking up and up until today I felt totally useless and I have to take the credit. I put the food in my mouth even though the scale kept moving upward and finally I am getting the nerve to have the surgery and admit I need help. I no longer expect to be pretty or sexy and don't really need too but I do want to feel lighter, more energetic and healthier. I don't want to be buried in a piano case or have them knock out a wall to get me out of my house. I guess if I have to look for a reason that I am fat its because I felt inferior to my sisters and felt like the ugly duckling. Add to that the fact that we never got sweets or had access to them and that made me want them even more. Then add to that a young marriage with no family support since we joined the military and stress from raising kids when I was a kid myself and that is probably a recipe for disaster. The good thing is that I have 3 lovely children, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren so far. I did get a divorce after 28 years to the first hubby and met MR PERFECT and we have now been together 18 years! Mr. Perfect is almost perfect, supportive, humorous, loving and I love him so....I am on to my next hat trick. -
Fat Related Routines You Won't Miss
MIMISAN replied to The Candidate's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@The Candidate I wasn't the most popular in school but I always considered myself fat. Then once I got married and pregnant I made it a reality. Then when it came time to go back for reunions I refused because I felt like such a slug. Over the years I keep getting bigger and bigger and even though I know I am doing it to myself it doesn't make it any easier. I would like to be able to attend the next reunion and just be able to accept myself and be happy. I have always been the joker and cut up and probably that personality was created as a defense. I like the personality so I will keep that but this weight has got to goooooooooo. -

The people that are important to me are my husband and children. When I was considering the surgery I asked my husband what he thought about it and he said he would support me in whatever choice I made and he also said that he felt like it would be a good choice just from a health perspective. He is always the most wonderful man and he is VERY supportive of me so I was not surprised. My next step was to tell my 3 grown children. Every one of them has seen me struggle with weight for years and every one of them immediately said that I should do it. That is all the support I need. Some people are not supportive of things like quitting smoking and major weight loss because they are afraid it will affect THEM. They aren't even thinking about you, they are thinking how your life change will affect them. If they hang in there with you so be it. If not you will find new friends.

Fat Related Routines You Won't Miss
MIMISAN replied to The Candidate's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I won't miss my stress incontinence - Panty liner companies may go bankrupt if my surgery helps this issue. I won't miss hiding from my husband all the time when I change clothes. I won't miss not being able to cross my legs to tie my shoes I won't miss trying to hide in the background behind others in photos! I won't miss not being able to get close enough to my husband for real cuddling! I won't miss walking into a restaurant and trying to find the best route to a table so that my fat ass doesn't knock someone else out of there chair. -
I can't believe he said that!
MIMISAN replied to New Me 2015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would have said something like.....you mean like the other 10 times I have lost 60 pounds by myself and gained it back? At least this gives me a fighting chance and by the way...thanks for your support.
