    Anyone from NYC?

I'm from Brooklyn. Gastric sleeve scheduled for 10/26 at Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre.
  2. Is the weight loss a surgeon requirement or an insurance requirement. I'm just asking because I'm scheduled for surgery on the 26th and I only have to do a liquid diet for two weeks prior to surgery. I wasn't given a specific amount of weight to lose.
  3. I understand that you have lost 6kgs so far which means you have another 6kgs to go, or do you 12kgs to lose in total. Nov 12th is more than a month in the future. With the lab work being available in a week (for which I can't understand because if this is such an emergency, the results should have been rushed), you should still have enough time to lose the weight hopefully. Have considered calling your surgeon's office to see if they offer an alternative when Optifast is not tolerable?
  4. I chose my surgeon after doing research and finding out how many surgeries he has performed. I also check that he is a board certified bariatric surgeon. I next started doing an internet search to see what positive experiences and negative experiences others had posted about him. I next made my consultation appointment and find him personable and knowledgeable. I had the lap band in 2009 without much success and with complications. I had an excellent surgeon for that procedure as well, but I didn't do well with the band. I chose the lap band back then because I was concerned about losing to much weight with the bypass and the complications. Now I realize that I have a long way to go. I appreciate my surgeon being quite frank with me about his viewpoint about the lap band and someone with my BMI. He told me the choice was mines, that he performs both the sleeve and the bypass. He told me the complications and benefits of both.

    So many crazy men

I'm 41 now, and my sister was saying that today's men are the new overly emotional women of the past. I seem to always find those looking for someone to be financially responsible for their grown selves! Not happening here!
  6. I should also ask how long before the lab work is returned to your GP because your values maybe ok, and you might be able to continue. I don't know if I would continue until I at least know what those values are. Are you getting enough fluids in daily? How is your pulse rate? Do you suffer from any chronic medical conditions like diabetes or hypertension?
  7. Is someone covering for your surgeon?

    Hey Guys

    hi all
  9. I am nervous and excited as well. I am having a revision from a lap band to a sleeve as well on the 26th. I had my lap band from Dec 2009, and I lost about 59 lbs but wouldn't lose anymore and started to have complications with subsequent fillings. I had it removed in Aug. I can't wait. How much time to take off?

I had my band removed 8/31 and my sleeve is scheduled for 10/26. I was wondering if a longer recovery is needed if you have the two procedures done at the same time, just wondering. I 'm scheduled to have two weeks off. I went to target after having the lap band removed for a prescription but walked around, albeit in pain, for about 3 hours. I went to work the next day. I'm concerned that I may need more time.

To Tell or Not To Tell?

I had a lapband that I recently had removed and I now getting the gastric sleeve. I didn't have problem telling my family members and a few close work associates about my new surgery. I have about two co-workers who've had the gastric bypass who openly discussed their surgery with me (both of which I was genuinely surprised had WLS). I know people talk, and I know a couple of co-workers that I didn't tell display a sort of desire to ask the question. Since I know people sometimes talk, I made a general statement that I don't ask people their numbers and I hope I don't have to be rude to anyone who ask me mines because I feel if you're rude enough to ask me questions about a matter I never personally discussed with you...then I'm rude enough to put you in your place.
  13. My date is 10/26 and I feel a mixture of anxiety and excitement!
  14. I'll let you, I'm in the approval phase and hope to be a October sleever.
  15. I'm currently finishing up my pre-op requirements for band revision to gastric sleeve and was considering switching to gastric bypass because I'm concerned that I won't be able to lose enough weight. I am currently 368 lbs and 5'7" tall. How was your weight loss rate, was it greater slower because of having previously been banded. I was banded in 2009 btw.
  16. Dr Shawn Garber. I doing my final preliminary test and don't have a surgery date yet.
  17. @@pdptwo1, My surgeon is based in long island, do you mind sharing whose your surgeon?
