Does roux n y gastric bypass present challenges for future unrelated surgeries?
gz345ski posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had my bypass in March of 2015. Now I'll be having a hysterectomy on April 12 th of this year. Does the bypass present any issues with being intubated? Is there anything I need to make sure my surgeon and anesthesiologist understand? -
Does roux n y gastric bypass present challenges for future unrelated surgeries?

Unfortunately, Kj, due to the bypass the surgeon might not be able to go in laparoscopically. She will attempt to, but she said that scarring or adhesions might thwart her efforts. In any event, since I'm down 152 lbs., I know that my risk factors are greatly reduced. Your good wishes are greatly appreciated. -

Thanks so much, Kj. Ok, I should be fine then. -
Have you had an upper endoscopy? After a year of horrific nausea every time I eat, my endoscopy revealed a large Anostomotic Ulcer, which is thought to occur in upwards of 16% of RNY patients. My dr. never suggested that I go for the test. My own research led me to ask him for script to have the endoscopy.

March 3,2015 was the date of my RNY gastric bypass. I'm down 135 lbs., but I'm nauseous after a few bites of almost any food so my choices are extremely limited.

Has anyone found the journey after surgery easy?
gz345ski replied to WannabeH's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 10 months out and in some ways the journey has been much easier than I expected, but in other ways it has been much more difficult. The pain after surgery was very minimal.and I did not experience any complications. For the most part, food cravings are few and far between. This has been a major blessing. I have lost 135 pounds since my surgery. Until a week or two ago ,my glucose readings were somewhat elevated, but lo and behold, last week I finally got a reading of 96 and this week 84. On the other side of the coin, I have had 10 months of nausea. Although I follow the rules, eating tends to make me feel very queasy. This food addict now finds most foods truly repugnant. My tastes have changed. Formerly favorite foods just make me gag now. It's really weird. -
purz59 I'm almost 6 months out from my RNY and I'm nauseous almost every time I eat anything. Some days I wake up nauseous. It's very frustrating. I figured I'd follow all the rules and I'd feel fine, but this has not been the case. I have never vomited or had diarrhea. It's just this horrible, ongoing nausea. On a positive note, I've lost about 100 lbs.since the day of my bypass and I have no cravings.

Wow, fuzzy feline, I can't believe how much we have in common. I had RNY in March, 5 days after my 65th birthday. My kitty had emergency intestinal surgery on the same morning. My poor husband! Anyway, my cat had a large growth which proved to be non- cancerous. The vet believes irritation from a huge ball of fur caused the problem. He's fine today!

Band Removal Approved; BYPASS DENIED!

I was on pain meds in the hospital and I was sent home with a prescription for pain meds with one refill so it shouldn't be a problem. -
Eating After RNY....How do you People Do It?
gz345ski replied to freelee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Educate yourself thoroughly before taking a prescription medication for nausea. I was administered Fennergen and Zofran for nausea when I was still in the hospital. I relied on OTC meds at home, but the nausea has been overwhelming. My PCP prescribed Zofran. Before taking it, I read that it can cause rapid heart rate and irregularities. I even saw research indicating that it caused Atrial Fibrillation in a post- surgical patient. That's exactly what happened to me. I suppose I'll never know whether Zofran was the cause of my AFib or it was just a coincidence. -
I'll try this. My husband always has a supply on hand because he suffers from bouts of Vertigo. I'm 14 weeks out and I've been nauseous since the first day. Lately, there have been some days when I feel better so I'm praying that this situation will continue to improve.
