Any one use Dr. Daniel Huacuz-Tijuana?
arealsweety replied to weightshaker's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I go to Dr. Huacuz for my fills and follow ups. Of course, since I live in San Diego, there is no need to pick me up at the airport. I appreciate the fluoro since it's nice to see what is going on with the band. -

If anyone is going to be banded by Dr. Huacuz and are not bringing a support person but would like some company, please let me know. I will be happy to hang out with you. I know how it can be in a strange place with no one you know. I live in San Diego and would be happy to make the trip across the border. I'm always up for a little shopping. Sweety -
I was banded by Dr. Huacuz in November 2005 and his follow up was and still IS excellent! If I have a question or a problem of any sort he answers promply. If I need a fill I hear from him immediately. He or his secretary Norma, reach out to gauge my progress. I can't say enough about the excellent care I have had from Dr. Huacuz. :clap2: Sweety (a VERY satisfied patient) :whoo:

Linda, Dr. Huacuz is my surgeon also and since I live in San Diego he does my follow-ups and fills. Since San Diego has been on fire for the past few days, I have been contacted by his clinic asking if I am okay. What other doctor would do that? Hey, let me know when you will have your surgery and I'll be happy to drop in and visit the day after. I will probably be in Tijuana doing my shopping near the clinic so it's very close. Lynette -

Yes, he was my band surgeon and has done my follow ups and fills. I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. Huacuz. He is always available for questions and is very thorough. -

It is so amazing how much easier banding makes the life style changes. Of course it is only a tool, but what a tool! I have told friends that it feels like my brain got banded along with my stomach. LOL! Hang in there! -

Excellent! He banded me too! That's almost my bandiversery (Nov. 3)! You will find that the clinic is new, clean and up to date. The doctor is caring, professional and very skilled. Even though I was in a foreign country I didn't feel nervous at all because the staff put me at ease. In fact I was more ready to get banded than nervous. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about Dr. Huacuz and the clinic. Sweety -
How to check on Doctors in Mexico?

Too bad I'm one of those parents who when her kid screwed up in school, she told the pricipal to use corporal punishment (legal at that time in Coloardo) and THEN took care of it at home. I don't play with my kids or with my life or with my band. I have first hand facts. I believe Ms. Bubble would also come to the defense of her surgeon if someone told blatant lies about him. -

I am neither trying to change your mind nor am I trying to get you to agree with me. I am just stating my thoughts, experiences and opinions as you are. -

What't up with it is my doctor doesn't have these so called serious problems. I know for a FACT (not hear say) that he has provided EXCELLENT care for me and all of my friends. We are all fine with him and the care he has provided us. Even when I am in Tijuana and run into other Huacuz patients, we all say the same thing. He is a GREAT doctor. What am I doing in Tijuana you may ask.... It's across the border and I love shopping there. I know the city well. What do you consider 100% positive weight loss? Do you consider it total and complete weight loss down to "chart" weight? Do you consider it that all patients have met their goals? Or do you consider it that all patients are happy with the weight loss that they have achieved to date? I'll go with the last one. -

A Google search with my name will show me as a registered nurse in South Carolina and something else in Maryland. I have never worked in the field or worked or lived in South Carolina or Maryland. In fact neither of those people with my name are me. I take google searches with a grain of salt. Situations can be manipulated and stories can be skewed. Good people work for (are contracted to) bad companies until they can disengage themselves from those bad companies. That is no reason to cast aspersions on that person when they release themselves from the bad companies. I count my surgeon (Dr. Huacuz) among the great surgeons, so yes, we will have to agree to disagree. -

Where do you get your information? No, she is NOT one of the few. There are MANY of us who have not had infections and are doing quite well. THANK YOU! And yes, we are lucky. We are lucky we found Dr. Huacuz and very fortunate indeed to be on the road to better health. Again what do you base this frequency of infections on? Conjecture? I was banded by Dr. Huacuz as were several of my friends. NONE of us had an infection nor have any of the many patients of his that I have been in contact with and we are all more than 6 months out. -

Of course that is YOUR opinion. We have direct experience with Dr. Huacuz and have put ourselves in his capable hands. Why is it that any time someone says something positive about their experience with Dr. Huacuz, you downplay it? It seems like you have some sort of unterior motive. What is the axe that you have to grind? -

Be Honest....

Hmmmmm... my fill has never been too much because my surgeon does my fills and makes sure I can eat. He is in Mexico and has given me his private cell number I can call in case of an emergency. Once I did have some swelling because my body (for some reason) decided it didn't like Wheat Thins all of a sudden. I called my doctor on a Sunday evening and he answered and had me come down to the clinic where I got an unfill. Wheat Thins are now on my "no-no" list. LOL! The upshot is I would never fill or unfill myself. -
Pregnant w/ raging infection :-/ (DON'T GO TO MEXICO!)

As you said that was your opinion. This is mine: I too was self pay without insurance coverage. I don't think any of us are rich. My car is 1994. I saved for the surgery and then had a friend and her husband lend me what I didn't have. They said they would rather have a live freind owning them money than a dead one who didn't. I have since paid them back. My reason for going to another country (Mexico) in the first place is the surgeons there (generally) have a lot more experience than US doctors. They have been placing lap bands for 16 or so years. It has only been FDA approved in the US since 2001. I went with the ones who have more experience. I had a raging staph infection with my C-Section in a US hospital but have had NO complications from my surgery in Tijuana. Living in San Diego has made it very convenient to drive across the border for follow ups and fills. It only takes me 20 minutes to get across the border and to where ever I need to be. Tijuana is not some tiny outpost. It has a population of over 1 million people. What most people see is just the "border" portion of it. If it wasn't for the border wait, I would seriously consider moving there. If I had to choose between having surgery in Mexico and being fat. I'm glad I chose surgery in Tijuana, Mexico. Without it I would not have lost almost 100# and had my life changed. Again, this is MY opinion. -

I don't know where they got their information either. I was banded in a hospital in Tijuana by Dr. Huacuz in November 2005 and have an IMAMED band. I also did my research ahead of time. -

You are laboring under the delusion that I have NOT done my research. It is not wise to assume that you have all the information and others have none. -

If I were looking for price only I would have gone somewhere else. Yes, Dr. Huacuz is still practicing and thank God he IS! Yes, I got what I got. I got a brilliant surgeon and great doctor! I'll be using him for my plastic surgery after I lose all of my weight. I have only good things to say about him. -

NataliesMommy I'm sorry about what you had to endure, but that could have happened in any hospital whether Mexican or American. We have to admit that complications DO happen no matter where we are located. I wish you the best and a speedy recovery. By the way, I go to Tijuana for medical care EXCLUSIVELY to Dr. Huacuz. I trust him! He banded me on November 3, 2005 and has done follow ups and fills since. He has treated me for several non-band related illnesses, the latest of which was a vocal cord infecton. Dr. Huacuz is GREAT and I wouldn't trade him for the American doctor I had to dismiss. How is my weight loss progress? I am now down 97# with only 60 or 70 to go. I am THRILLED! People think I am 15 years younger than I really am! Again, I wish you a speedy recovery and congrats on the new baby! Arealsweety -

No, Dr. Huacuz has his own clinic. He is a great surgeon and doctor. I have had absoultly NO complaints about him. Besides the original post didn't even mention a doctor. Why bring him up now? Arealsweety
