It was about two weeks (when I returned to work) before I could do that many stairs. I started off with 4-5 the first few days & kept increasing each day or two.
-
Only you can decide if this is going to work or not. I know people who had a rough start & were very successful. I also lnow some who did wonderful at first, but slowly returned to their old life. If you are determined to do it, then do it! It isn't easy, but you have to want it more than the alternatives. Best of luck!

2 days Post Op - VSG....Happy to be home!
WorkinOnMe replied to beingfree's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Congratulations on this new phase of your journey! 4.... keep moving & gets better & better! 5.... after the first 24hrs I had a hard time with anything room temperature. It either needed to be ice cold or hot. My doc said that wasnt uncommon & go with whatever works, but I hadn't heard this before. 6.... Get your rest & Good luck! -
Same problem here... I have *no* appetite ever since my surgery and I am 3 months out as well. I do like TammyDTM suggested & exercise then easy a high protein meal. I also find if my drinks are ice, ice cold it is easier for me to get them down. I fill 2 water bottles with SF flavored water & one protein drink the night before. Stick them in the fridge & they are cold for the next day. I buy Quest protein bars & some protein 'chips' and sometimes these are my meal. They are really small portions & help me reach my protein goal for the day.

At first, pre-op, I only told my immediate family & best friend. I felt like you ... that I didnt want to deal with the negativity of others. That said, now that it is over & I feel so great, I am telling anyone & everyone who asks! This has been a total life changer for me and I am no longer concerned with the responses. I feel good & that is all that matters. And to be honest, I have encountered VERY FEW negative opinions. Most people are happy for me because they can see that I am happy. Do what is best for you, but I'd suggest you take it as it comes. You need to feel comfortable with what you chose to say.

Should I cancel my surgery? Help!
WorkinOnMe replied to Nibbler's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I say continue as planned, for several reasons which were already mentioned above. Everyone is different & recovery will depend on your own body. However, I was up & walking 2 hours after surgery. I only used my 'happy button' for medication a few times (and for a prior spine injury that I take pain meds for), and took nothing after day of surgery. I was in the hospital 3 days & I was driving myself the day after I was released. In the end, I felt better a week after surgery than I did a week before! Best of luck to you both! -
Congrats! Keeping positive thoughts for all of you!

When I hit my first stall I was told to make sure of 2 things: I was getting at least the required liquids and a I was getting at least the required protein. I found I was not quite hitting either. I was 'close' & in the ballpark, but not quite. Once I adjusted the scale started moving again.

It sucks, but you are healing. I had yogurt, sugar free Jello, and sugar free Popsicles too. Once on full liquids my husband "doctored" a few soups to make them more savory for me. Most days looked like this: Breakfast - Dannon Oikos greek yogurt (no added sugar, no artificial sweetners, no fat ... several flavors) with 10g added Protein power. Snack - 8oz Protein Drink lunch - 1/2 cup blended Soup w/ seasoning Snack - 8oz protein drink dinner - 1/2 cup blended soup with seasoning & 10g added Protein powder. In between ... 64 oz Fluid. Mostly Water with Mio or Crystal Light drops for flavor. Soups were all 99% fat free and alternated between the following (put through a blender & strainer first): Cream of chicken with Adobo, onion powder, garlic powder Golden mushroom with cumin, curry powder, paprika Cheddar broccoli French Onion I also alternated sugar free pudding, jello, custard, etc when I wanted a different texture. Hope this helps. You've only a few days til full liquids!

I agree & disagree ... my husband cooks A-MAZING food. It is very flavorful, but healthy. Now I find that while I am not hungry & eat because it is meal time, I am enjoying really small portions of these great meals. I usually have 1/2 cup meat/protein & 1/4 cup of whatever side he makes. I am lucky in that no foods bother me, but I can't eat more than 3/4 cup without being so full it hurts. Going out to dinner on the other hand is a whole different issue!

????Any May Gastric Bypass peeps????
WorkinOnMe replied to Salonboi's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Okay, I am late to joining the party, but I just recently found Bariatricpal! I was sleeved on May 11th, putting me 3 months post-op. So far I am down almost 77lbs., but have hit the "3 month stall" this past week. I just walked my very first 5K race last night! I am very fortunate to have a huge support system, but it is nice to know that I now have those of you who "get it" because you have been there!! My biggest dilemma right now is what to do about clothes. I have purged my closet of TONS of things ... I went from a 26/28 to now being in a 14/16. I start back to work in a few weeks and although I cannot fit in any of my old clothes, I cannot afford a new wardrobe either. SUGGESTIONS???? -

What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
WorkinOnMe replied to bigjoe102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Seeing my A1C go up & up & up every three months despite the medication and diet changes. Looking at my family history and watching my father inject himself with insulin 3 times a day. But what finally broke me was seeing someone I knew who had a double amputation due to diabetes complications and knowing that if that were me I would miss out on so much with my new grandbaby. I have never looked back. -
It won't be an issue. I was on prescription pain meds when I went for my pre-op screening. They are looking more for things that could cause complications.

Other than losing weight, how did your health improve after surgery?
WorkinOnMe replied to NotMyCircus's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
BP normal & no more meds, cholesterol dropped but still in lose dose for now, apnea improved & no machine, fasting glucose (on meds) from 145 to 99/110 with no meds. Best is that pain from a spinal injury has significantly lessened to the point that I am no longer on daily pain meds & the neuropathy in my leg has almost disappeared! -
I too am a teacher & had planned to have my sleeve done this summer. Due to insurance issues I had to move it up to May & take 2 weeks off school. There were a few very close friends who knew about my journey, but I felt most people didn't need to know. For those who asked, I kept it simple.... I simply said I was having some abdominal surgery. If they pressed it further I told them it was nothing major. For some who wouldnt leave well enough alone, I did tell them I was having a hyatial hernia fixed because I did have one & the surgeon evaluated it while doing my sleeve (didn't need surgical correction & fixed itself after the sleeve). Going back to work was a whole different ballgame! I started losing weight immediately & it was noticeable. A few people guessed. Those who asked what was going on, I told them my diabetes was under control & I was losing weight. I was the truth. My glucose was 99 2 hrs after surgery, and I WAS losing weight. They just lumped the two together.

I am 3 mos out & I have lost 77lbs so far, both pre & post-op. I have hit a few stalls and this is what I learned: the carbs/calories didn't matter, it was my Water & prorein intake and my exercise. I needed to boost my fluids & make sure I hit a minimum of 60g of Protein. I also had to mix up my exercise. I walk a minimum of 3 miles/day but my body was getting used to this. So, off to the gym for the bike or a hit a hiking trail for a different kind of walking. These combined would break the stall & I saw a difference in a day or two. I am in another stall now ... 1 week at same weight. So I have started to push the fluids & adding more protein. Now off to hit the hiking trails for a bit to get my body moving!
