Dear god...WHY AM I THIS WAY? CARBS!
WorkinOnMe replied to armywife79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I bet it is exhausting. And frustrating. I wish I knew why our brains work like they do. If I could figure it out I never would have needed to be sleeved ... and I'd be rich! Haha!! In all seriousness, try to find something external to force you into doing what you know you need to. The 5K wasn't too bad & the color run might be fun! My first goal was simply to finish the race ... no expectations, just finish. Now I am registered for another one in September so that I will keep going to the gym & walking. Again, I posted it all over fb & told my family so I CAN'T BACK OUT. Finally, thank you to your husband, your family & to you for your military service!! I am always in awe of the sacrifices you make. Being a Ranger is impressive. Thank you!! -
Haha .... wearing my first one as I type! My cousin & a friend of mine are both distributors. This is the photo I saw that prompted me to try them. I don't have quite so much loose skin (yet) but figured I would give it a shot! I also use the It Works Greens everyday. It has helped with my mild heartburn & added some energy.

Dear god...WHY AM I THIS WAY? CARBS!

Rant & vent away!! Sometimes all we need is to be heard & understood ... really heard, as in "Been there!" I want to tell you everything will be okay, but deep down I think you just need to be heard. And I hear you! You can get through this though. I struggled with getting my gym/exercise time in regularly & I KNEW I needed to just do it, but couldnt seem to get out of my own way. So I found a way to stay accountable.... first I signed up for a 5k. And then I went public about it. All over social media & told my family & friends. I was more determined that I was *NOT* going to look like a fool when people asked how I did and I had to tell them I couldnt finish, than I was about not going to the gym. Soooo, I went. Maybe not every day, but it was enough to make me accountable. Long story, but basically what can you use as a motivating factor for you?? What will help hold you accountable?? I was motivated by potential embarrassment. What can you hold on to that will help you to do it when you dont really want to?? -
I still have a hard time with Protein unless I add powders, drinks & bars. I add 10g to my yogurt every morning ... making it 25g. I add a drink during the day which is 20-23g. And if I am still not close with the rest of my food for the day I have a Protein Bar for "dessert" at night. Hope this helps. Good luck!

It is okay to be nervous! I thought I was being neurotic. It is perfectly normal. Walk, walk, walk .... before & after. I was told that, but I didnt realize how much if a lifesaver it would become in the dufficult days. And don't compare yourself to anyone else or anything you've read/heard/etc!! You are you & your journey is exclusively yours. Embrace it and go with it!

Pretty much! I ate things like golden mushroom soup, but couldnt have the chunks of mushroom. So throw it in the blender (or ninja) and puree the heck out of it! I also addes spices to my soups to make them more savory. So, in my mushroom soup I added curry powder, cumin and paprika. In my cream of chicken (blend up those chicken pieces!) I added adobo, garlic & onion powder. In my tomato I added Italian seasoning, garlic and basil. They tasted sooooo much better!

I was sleeved just before you. 60# is great!! Don't get too frustrated with this new phase, it too will pass. I buy Quest Protein bars for when I want something sweet. The chocolate ones are pretty good and so are the lemon. I also snack on watermelon squares, cheese squares, and saltines with laughing cow cheese wedges. I dont snack much though because I use fluids instead .... Protein drinks (nectar has great fruity ones!) or SF Water drops/flavors like raspberry lemonade help too.

Congrats on your new journey! Every plan is different, and every person reacts differently. At 7 days I was on full liquids (which includes yogurt, blended Soups, SF Jello, SF pudding/custard, etc). However a friend was on a different stage at this same point. I would check with your Dr or NUT to see exactly where they want you, but in my experience NO, you should not have potatoes or eggs yet. Hang in there though. You are healing & soon enough you will see the benefits of waiting it out.

Had sleeve surgery yesterday
WorkinOnMe replied to cbruce125's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My Day 2 (clear liquids) was pitiful! I discovered that I couldn't get anything down if it was luke warm or room temperature...everything had to be either ice cold or hot. Once they put ice in everything I was better. Still struggled for a few days to get higher amounts down, but it slowly increased. -
Lifting you both up in prayer. God bless you.

Chicken on the grill for us ... but one of my favorites is chicken stir fry over cauliflower 'rice'. I can add whatever veggies I feel like having that day & season it with just low sodium soy sauce & a bit of worcestershire sauce. The rice is easy to make .... grind raw cauliflower in a food processor until small granules, the fry in a pan or roast in oven.

I sent you a private message as it was a lengthy response! ☺

What kinds of foods are you eating? My NUT cautioned me that it was more of what I was eating vs. How much. She stated that I wouldn't be able to eat very much, but my food choices could stalemate me. I was extremely faithful (my hubby says anal) to my plan because I was afraid to fail.

ROFL!!! Thank you for the giggle! ????

First, I am so very sorry for the loss of you MIL. ???? Second, you are also mourning the loss of your previous coping mechanisms. Which is another devastation for you. While I haven't experienced this myself, a friend did. She used walking EVERY CHANCE SHE GOT to help get her through. She walked 5, sometimes 8 miles at a time. However, sometimes it isn't practical to just leave a house full of family to go walking. She busied herself with all the organization 'stuff' ... making sure everyone had what they needed, putting out more food, making coffee, etc. She was a regular little Holly Hostess. It wasn't perfect & she still called to cry on my shoulder, but it did help her through the worst of it until ahe could get back to her routine. I hope things get easier for you during this especially difficult time.

I'll join on on this pity party! I feel your frustration. A relative was sleeved 2 months before me & people are constantly comparing me to her. Different bodies, different starting weights, etc. A group that I belong to has begun using #nonscalevictories as our motivating hashtag. When we are feeling down we look for those non-scale things that boost us up ... try in old or new clothes, compare before/current photos, a new workout success, etc. I have found that even when the scale is moving slooooowwwww, I can usually find at least one #nonscalevictory that makes it all worthwhile. Try it & see if it helps. Keep it up, so many of us know how you feel & are cheering you on.

What are you all doing for workouts?
WorkinOnMe replied to armywife79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
That's my problem ... can't run without knee & back pain. My trainer said walking at a fast pace is just as good as running ... only it takes you a little longer to get there! She has me doing lots of leg strengthening to help my timing improve. -
What are you all doing for workouts?
WorkinOnMe replied to armywife79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I just walked my first 5K last week. I walk 3-5 miles 4 or 5 times per week and have been working with a personal trainer at the gym 2 days per week. Like @@Amylou said change it up so your body doesnt get complacent. -

Smooth sailing... waiting for the other shoe to drop
WorkinOnMe replied to byebyedarkpassenger's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Like @sweattea said ... breathe! Your experience so far sounds a lot like mine. I am 3 mos post-op & the other shoe hasn't dropped (knock on wood!) Surgery was easier than I thought & recovery was a breeze. I am dropping lbs slow & steady, off nearly all meds, and a1c is normal again. For a while I told my nurse that I felt guilty having it so easy. She said some people are like that, just go with it! You got this! Good luck! -
Any teachers out there...returning to work?
WorkinOnMe replied to ForLfKlovr's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am a teacher who was sleeved on May 11th. I returned to work full duty 2weeks after my surgery date. I explained to my admin what my needs were & they were very accommodating! I wouldn't be moving furniture or setting up your classroom if I were you, but PD days should be fine. I was able to do all my regular responsibilities, with a little more fatigue than normal but nothing overwhelming. Good luck & happy Back to School! -
3 days post op--what did it look like?
WorkinOnMe replied to KChelper's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well, first off, it is important to remember that everyone's journey is going to look different. Try not to take stock in what others have been through, as your experience could be totally opposite. That said... what did it look like?? I was up and walking around 2 hours after surgery. I had very little medication and almost no pain or gas bloating. Day 1 was all IV liquids, Day 2 was Clear Liquids, and Day 3 started full liquids. I struggled with getting enough fluids in on Day 3 & discovered only ice cold would go down easy enough. By mid afternoon I was sent home and I welcomed visitors. I was bored!! I did tire easily if I tried to do too much, like loads of laundry without a break in between. Having people around helped me continuously sip on my fluids, otherwise I was more apt to veg out or sleep. My 6 yr old niece came to play board games & my mum binge watched Netflix with me. I wasn't allowed back to work until 2 weeks post-op, but honestly could have returned after 1 week. I am now 3mos post-op. I have had no complications or side effects. However, I also followed my plan meticulously. I've been told by others that my experiences aren't really typical and most sleevers have at least something that is bothersome. My best advice is to do what you are supposed to, listen to your body, and take it one day at a time. -
Leaving for the hospital in 9 hours... I'M FREAKING OUT A LITTLE!
WorkinOnMe replied to Cervidae's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Best of luck! It is perfectly normal to be all of those things, including nervous. Can't wait to hear how it all goes for you -
This is my new favorite summertime treat!! I did 1/2 frozen banana, 1/4 cup almond milk, and ice to thicken it. I am 3 mos. post-op and my NUT okay'd it, as long as it is not every day. I added frozen peaches once & strawberries another time. Going to have to try the PB2 like someone suggested as PB & banana is a favorite of mine!
