Recent May sleevers-How are you?
WorkinOnMe replied to sndholmes's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am a May 11th sleever and to date I have lost 91lbs. 11 of that was pre-op, but still losing pretty steadily. Sorry to hear about your experience. If you are concerned, I would seek out another surgeon to follow up with. -
I am on Depo too and have never had weight gain from it. I dont have a TOM either, but caution you that several people I know had a hard time getting pregnant after being on it. Was told that if you plan to have children then the implant is a better choice.

Sciatica and Weight Loss
WorkinOnMe replied to VanessaVSGforme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
In 2011 I suffered 2 work injuries to my back just one week apart from each other. As a result I have an annular tear at L5/S1 with minor bulging at L3 & L4 as well. In 2012 I participated in a Functional Restoration Program ... in essence a 3 week intensive rehab program to regain the use of the muscles in my back. Although the program did an amazing job, I still suffered from radiating pain into my hip & down my left leg. Occasionally I also have numbness/neuropathy in the lower leg & foot. I have done all the exercises & stretches I was given and only had limited range of motion. I was sleeved in May 2015 and to date I have lost 87.5 lbs. In June I started to notice a marked improvement in my pain, especially at night. Since surgery I have only had 2 episodes of numbness and only a handfull of times that I have had to take my pain medications. I am now able to walk for over an hour, where before I could only manage 10 minutes at most. I just completed my first 5K & am walking my 2nd one on Sunday. I dont know if WLS was fully responsible for the improvements, however I will never balk at my increased mobility & decrease in pain! Ine thing I learned in rehab is that there is a difference between "pain" and "pain that causes more injury". Do as much walking as you can ... I firmly believe that has been the biggest help in reducing the inflammation that causes my pain. Best of luck! -
I am only 4 months post-op!! Can you imagine what will happen a year out?!?!?
-
So the other night I was pulled over by a very nice (and good looking) police officer. Apparently I had a tail light out. He did his duty & asked for my license and registration. He looked at my license, then at me, then at my license, then at me. I told him I had lost some weight since my photo was last taken 4 years ago. His response "A little!" Haha! I loved it!! Needless to say, he recommended that I get a new photo taken & because it came from an officer I didn't have to pay for it. Nice NSV when I dont even look like myself anymore!

Couldn't have said it better than Sleevenv!! The scale will shift & you will settle in. I am 4mos post-op & have hit this same problem a couple times. I just kept on doing what I was supposed to & in a couple days the scale tipped the other way. Good luck!

The Path Forward
WorkinOnMe replied to notgonnabelikemymom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome Cathryn! Your story is very touching & I can relate to in home care as I did that for my grandmother for some time before she passed 4 years ago. As for your VSG & your own health, I am diabetic (now controlled) and that was the primary reason for my sleeve. My father is diabetic, and his mother before him. He is insulin dependent & takes 3 shots each day. I was terrified of having to do that & unfortunately that is the direction I was headed. 2 hours after my surgery my glucose tested at 99 and has been normal ever since. It has been almost 4 months and I do not regret a thing!!! I applaud your bravery & taking charge of your life. Best of luck & I can't wait to hear more of your journey! -
Cream Soups and Restriction
WorkinOnMe replied to kranky813's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
"Restriction" for me at this point felt more like pressure in my chest. I felt like I couldn't take a deep breath. -
Onederland and a wedding

Congrats on reaching onderland!!! -
I second the nectar drinks! I like the iced tea & lemonade the best. But they have tons of different flavors to choose from. It is one of the only brands I could tolerate right after surgery. I get mine from Nashuanutrition.com & also buy individual sample packets so I can try a flavor first.

When did your head hunger start being a challenge?
WorkinOnMe replied to MzB's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Almost 4 mos post-op & it hasn't kicked in for me (yet). Hope it never does! Curious to see what others say too. -
I had horrible gas days 2-5 post op. I used maximum strength Gas X strips & it helped sooo much! Lots and lots of walking to move the gas too. But the Gas X definitely made it easier to get through.
-
Same as what laguerr13 said ... walking & GasX strips helped. Mine went away within a week post-op. Still happens now & then with things I eat but the GasX helps.

I did the 2 weeks liquid before, for the same reason Court3625 mentioned above. Relative of mine who went through a different surgeon & different program only had liquids the day before. Don't know if it is related to this or not, but my surgery was less time than hers & my recovery time was much less than hers.

Unfortunately our family was thrown into the midst of an emergency last night. The nerves & anxiety is wreaking havoc on my system. I cannot eat without everything coming back up or getting stuck, and drinking is very slow going today too. I have only managed to get about 25g of Protein (if it stayed down) and close to 40oz of Fluid. I am kind of afraid of dehydration. I am 3 1/2 months post-op & haven't had any side effects until now. I know it is a result of what is going on, but not sure it will be resolved in the next few days. Anyone with similar situations? Do you recommend I keep pushing the fluids over foods?

Are you still looking?? -
Don't know anything about breaking a stall with G2. However my NUT & Doc don't want me drinking G2 because it has sugar in it. I do Powerade Zero when I need an electrolyte boost.

What a LOOONG journey it has been ... and I am only 3 months out!
WorkinOnMe posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was sleeved 3 months ago on May 11th. However, my journey actually began in 2011 when my doctor suggested that I consider a lap band. Unfortunately, I was injured and the next 4 years was devoted to healing & regaining my mobility. Mid year last year I finally was able to take steps to continue on my journey. I have to admit, although weight loss was a great benefit, it was not the reason I decided to pursue the sleeve. I am diabetic and my A1C continued to rise, despite the medications. Looking at my family history I knew I would be destined for multiple insulin shots each day unless I was able to get it under control. Pre-surgery my fasting glucose on medication was 145, and without medication it was well over 200. My doctor stopped my meds 2 days before surgery, and a mere 2 hours post surgery my glucose was 99. I have maintained a 90-115 sugar level since then. Good & Bad .... well, the hardest part for me was the 2 "hell weeks" before surgery when I couldn't eat much, yet my family was still eating normal meals. I had my food funerals & hissy fits, but then I got over it. I have not had much "bad" since then. I have had no side effects, beside hiccups. I have not gotten sick, nor have I had any dumping. I have had a few stalls, but within a few days, once I made some adjustments, I was back up & running again. I walk 4-5 times per week and just completed my first 5K last night. So, after more than 4 years, a stint in physical rehab to regain the use of my muscles, and countless hours of fretting, I am currently down almost 77lbs. My sugars are great, my BP is normal, and my apnea is manageable without a machine. -
Family Emergency Making Things Difficult
WorkinOnMe replied to WorkinOnMe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks all. This morning is only slightly better. Every sip is a fight to go down, but I am trying to push the protein drinks to get both fluids & protein into me. I didn't sleep well either so I know that is not helping. I know in my head what I should be doing, but I really needed to hear it from someone else. -
How can I be a failure already?
WorkinOnMe replied to Mini_me007's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Please do not view yourself as a failure! You need to remember that your body is adjusting to a major surgery & alteration. You will most likely continue to lose, but not every day & every week week be at the same rate. As for what the surgeons say ... every person is different. You can only use the data as a guideline, not a statement of fact. The other thing I would check on is your caloric intake. If you don't have enough calories coming in your body will go into starvation mode & start storing for later. That said, I have had ups & downs with the rate of loss. I try to focus on Non-scale Victories to help me get over these hurdles. Are your clothes getting loose? Do you feel more energy? Best of luck & keep your chin up! -
May Sleevers, How much?
WorkinOnMe replied to Jessica Radcliff's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeved on 5/11. Total loss as of last week is 84 pounds and have from a 26/28 to a 14/16. -
I am 3 1/2 months out & still have a hard time with fruits & veggies. I have very minimal restrictions, but cant seem to eat much after I eat my protein! Now I take a supplement instead & know I am getting my servings in.
