Prolapse is a very minor slip...it is when part of the stomach slides up thru the band, causing the pouch to be enlarged. I had gotten food poisoning and was vomiting and that is what caused it. It can happen if you are too tight and pb often as well. I knew something wasn't right cause when I would eat or drink...it always felt like I was stuck...then if I laid down on my back...the liquids would gurgle thru really fast. I got unfilled for 4 weeks, then got refilled and have been fine since. It took 2 fills to get back up to a workable fill level. You can't just put back all that was in there, you have to work back up a little bit, unless you didn't have much to begin with. I was at 3.2 cc in a 4 cc band prior to this incident. Now, I am at 2.9 and tho I kind of feel like I need a small fill...it is not a good idea so close to my plastic surgery as then the swelling might make me too tight. I will wait til I am healed up after surgery and then go from there.

Steph...it took me about a year to get down to 150...and I plateaued there for about 4 mos...then I stepped up the exercise and took another 20 off. I have been between 130 - 140 for about 8 mos now. That last 20 IS definitely the hardest to get rid of...I gained some back when I had to have an unfill, but once I had a good fill level again, it came off pretty good. I had a slight prolapse so that is why I had to be unfilled for 4 weeks til it went back into position. I could never be without my band again...very hard to control portions and I was hungry again all the time. Now I can take a step back before I stuff my face at least.

Hey..."veteran" bandster of over 2 yrs here. Married, 46, Mom to 3 boys, stepmom to 2 more boys...MIL to 2 and grandawni to 2 girls. I am scheduled for panniculectomy on 2/20/08. Ins. is supposed to pay...I do have to come up with the deductible of $1000 tho. I can't afford the extra $1600 besides for navel relocation and some lipo...so I think I will just have a tattooed belly button...maybe tiny words that go around in a circle saying "if you can read this you are much to close" or something.

This would beYummy on crackers or in a salad. chicken & ASPARAGUS SPREAD I used leftover chicken I had baked and steamed asparagus. I use kitchen shears to mince it up and then add a little mayonaise, seasoning salt and just a dash of italian salad dressing. I ate it alone and could eat about 3/4 c. It was very good and I was full for about 3 hrs. EASY CHICKEN TORTILLA Soup Boil 4-6 boneless skinless thighs, diced into small pieces 5-6 diced green onions 2 tbsp garlic 2 tbsp chives diced fresh cilantro or 2 tbsp dried cilantro Add 1 can of garbanzo Beans or red beans, or both Add 1 box of rice a roni "spanish rice" seasonings and rice Allow to simmer for 20 min or so I cut and fry my own corn tortillas for this, but you can buy them also. I like that if I make my own, I can make them very crisp and drain them very well..we put them on the side so they can be put in the soup a few at a time while we eat...and I usually only put a couple in mine..the soup alone is very filling...this is one of my family's favorite "quick" meals.

Thin slices, toasted and MAYBE I can eat it...I can eat the heel of a regular piece of bread if I toast it good...I get day old bagels from a local place called bagel sphere, slice them thin and bake my own "bagel chips". Wonderful replacement for crackers or bread and I make my own neufchatel cheese spread, or tuna salad to go on them...they are excellent to put in my pocket to nibble on as I go out to walk on my lunch hour at work. If your wife is vomiting coagulated blood (coffee grounds) there is a VERY REAL possibility that she has a very badly slipped, or eroded band. This is serious and needs to be dealt with by a BARIATRIC SURGEON and NOBODY ELSE! Have they done a barium swallow with flouroscopy? That should show them whether there is truly a blockage or if the stomach has come up thru her band. Prayers and best wishes for her recovery!

I have to force it down a tiny sip at a time...I think because we KNOW if we take too big a swallow it is gonna "golfball" on us...that our subconscious plays this little "trick" on us.

Suggestion to combat hair loss
Dawnita1961 replied to Bensmum1109's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Actually...Nioxin (Generic from Sally's is called Nutri-Ox) IS FORMULATED to help keep your hair from coming out in the first place by helping to keep your follicles open, active and stimulated. It only helps with hair growth after it falls out by reopening the follicles, and stimulating them. Also, if you are losing hair, I know it sounds crazy, but BRUSH YOUR SCALP...many people lose excessive hair simply from not unclogging all the gunk and dead skin cells off of their scalp. Most initial hair loss is NOT caused by the band, or lack of protien, but by the anesthesia you had during your surgery. This happens to many people after ANY surgery. It is important to get plenty of protien and b-vitamins (BIOTIN) as they are the nutrients that actually make up the hair shaft..90 % of that hair shaft is protien...but it is also dead...once it leaves your follicle...the most important thing is to nurture your hair from the inside out...thru your diet... I have had chemo, lost all my hair, went to beauty college bald, grew it back and have worked in the industry for 21 years, including 3 years in education....(and had a total of 17 surgeries in my life as well..none but this one and a breast reduction by choice) Hope this helps you and feel free to ask if you have any other hair questions!! -
help my daughter just got her band
Dawnita1961 replied to msdeb57's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Head hunger is so much stronger than physical hunger...and I suspect that that is the true "nagging" hunger your daughter is feeling. YOU as the parent have to be strong too...for her...when the head hunger really gets to me...I try to do something that involves BOTH hands and/or go for a brisk walk...and I am not talking to the nearest fast food place! (from home, that would be nearly 30 miles for me...but from work, that is a 2 minute walk!) I have yet to find a protien shake that I really like, but I make pudding from Jello sugarfree/fatfree and skim milk, and add soy protien powder to it. It sets up like regular pudding and is much more satisfying. You can make it with whey protien too, but then it IS like a shake...never will set up, but is still yummy!! (and Walmart has their brand for 50 cents a package!) It is SO DIFFICULT to say NO to our kids, especially if we have been forever saying Yes to them...but until she is 18, you gotta help her learn to USE the band like the tool it is...it doesn't work by itself. Good luck! -
Woman's right to change her mind??

Bummer...too bad you can't have both surgeries done at the same time and be done with it! Rotator cuff surgery is a hard one too. I will keep you in my prayers! At least if you have insurance they will cover that one! Dawnita May DOB 10/05/05 209/180/135
