Any sleevers scheduled for late July?
keddykat75 replied to kbpaulie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have bcbs and my doctor submitted it Tuesday afternoon and I found out I was approved yesterday.. So 2 days for me! I have Blue Shield of California. My dr. Is waiting to submit for approval until July 1, because as of June 30 they are no longer requiring 6 months of medically supervised diet. If they approve in 2 days like yours did then I could squeak into a July surgery date like I want. The dr. Is only requiring me to do a 1 week liquid diet before surgery so am really hoping this goes quick. -
1st Appt 6/16, deciding on a procedure
keddykat75 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am new to this forum, I meet with the surgeon on 6/16 and I can't wait. I have 100-120lbs to lose. I am 40 years old and I have well controlled MS and slight HBP. I started gaining weight with my 1st of 5 pregnancies 20 years ago and kept adding weight even after my last was born 11 years ago. I originally went into this journey only interested in Lapband, but now a few short weeks later it is my 3rd choice. I booked a seminar with a place that only did Lapband and then met someone who was a year out form having a bypass. She told me how much she loved it and that her surgeon had stopped doing bands. I then went to my seminar and didn't like only being told about one option. That night I found another surgeon's online seminar and watched it, based on that seminar and other research I know think I want my first choice to be sleeve, 2nd bypass, and 3rd band. My biggest reasons for wanting the sleeve over the bypass are: time off work needed and I like the idea that the digestion process isn't changed by the sleeve. I really hope my insurance covers it, because if I have to go to a self pay option it will be quite a while before I can do that. If you could tell me which procedure you had and how much time you had off work I would really appreciate it. -
How am I supposed to document all of my previous weight loss attempts?
keddykat75 posted a topic in Insurance & Financing
I have the world's worst memory when it comes to details. I can't remember milestones in my children's early childhood etc... And now I am supposed to detail what diets I have tried, which year, how long, how much did it cost, how much weight did I lose, how much did I regain? Umm I know I have tried a lot. Lean & Free 2000+, Susan Powder, Dr Phil, Biggest Loser, Simple Swaps, low fat, low carb, My Fitness Pal, Medifast, etc.. And I know I am still fat, but that's about it. How do you turn that into the documentation the insurance wants? -

Hairloss and Hairstyles
keddykat75 replied to ambernamber's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had surgery yet, but I am hoping that if I have hair loss it just makes it so my hairdresser no longer needs to thin it for me. My hair is very short and very thick. -

Possibly, I will see what they say on Tuesday, but I just can't remember the things on the forms I am supposed to fill out. -

Unfortunately other than weighing me my primary care provider never even mentioned my weight to me. Even when I developed high blood pressure. -

That was lucky, 10 years ago my husbands kidney cancer was diagnosed when somehow he got giardia. No clue how he got the parasite, but it saved his life. -
Things I look forward to..
keddykat75 replied to ShrinkingPeach's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I look forward to not having chub rub when wearing a dress or a swimsuit, being able to not get winded when walking very far, hopefully sharing clothes with my daughters, being able to go to Disneyland without being the first one to poop out for the day, being skinnier than all of my obese siblings, not taking blood pressure meds, not being so tired, keeping good control of my MS with lifestyle and diet, and on and on...... -
I am in Utah, I sent you a message earlier today.

I have my first appointment with Dr Richards on 6/16, she is Dr. Cottons partner. So far the staff I have talked with (Kim) had been very nice. I hope my process goes smooth. I have Blue Shield of CA and I saw that on 6/30 they are removing their requirements for 6 month supervised weight loss so I hope this can go quickly. -

[quote name="Malaika" OMG -- I hadn't thought about that ... I always tease that I look younger than I am because I'm so fat it pulls all the wrinkles out of my face ... UH OH ... guess I'd better starting working on face exercises... I don't want to look any older than I do and definitely not my age! Me too, I have always joked that my fat was my Botox. Sure hope the wrinkles don't appear when the weight is gone.

How long did you take time off before going back to work....
keddykat75 replied to _Kate_'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have plenty of paid time off, but I was just gone for 2weeks to go to Bali. I hate taking much time off so soon after that.
