    Why sleeve and not bypass?

My only issue was being hungry constantly, I was hungry and I over ate so I got fat. I have no comorbidities so the bypass just didn't seem right for me. I'm very happy with my decision. At 2 and a half weeks out I DO get hungry, but I eat my small portion and I'm completely satisfied. I have no desire to overeat (I'm pretty sure my sleeve would protest even if I tried!).

    Drinking alcohol

My doctor said 6 weeks, he seems to be a bit more lenient than most I've seen mentioned on here but I'm pretty positive he didn't mean I can go out and get hammered lol

    Bruising

I only had very slight bruising, it was a bit yellow, but I'm 2 and a half weeks out and still have a good amount of pain at my large incision. I'm just now starting to be able to sit up to get out of bed instead of rolling out!

    I See the Rainbow

That's how I felt getting my staples out! Such a relief!

    Protein Powders ?

You can contact syntrex and they'll send you a sample pack for about $15. I didn't like any of the flavored besides cappuccino. I use an unflavored protein that mixes well and I got it from Amazon for only $21. I put it in whatever crystal lite I'm drinking and that way I get both my fluids and my protein in!

Protein strategy - what is yours?

It's the Now foods unflavored whey protein isolate pure. I originally bought the now foods unflavored concentrate and it's awful, but the isolate really has no flavor. My coworker bought the isolate and let me try it and it's so much better. It's only $21 on Amazon!
  7. My first 3 days were in the hospital and they were wonderful. No nausea, only pain when trying to get out of bed to use the bathroom, easy peasy. When I got home, it was hell. I ended up getting dehydrated because every sip I took made my stomach gurgle, I was in a lot of pain because I couldn't get up from laying down, the pain meds tastes disgusting so I couldn't take them.. Ugh. At two weeks out its like a whole different world. I feel great now!

Protein strategy - what is yours?

Dairy seems to make me sick, traditional Protein shakes are just not working for me. If it's milky or creamy, my stomach gets angry. My coworker who also just had the sleeve ordered an unflavored protein from Amazon and let me try it and it tastes fine even in crystal lite. I ordered some yesterday to put in everything I eat. I start puréed foods today so it shouldn't be too hard to do. I'm only 2 weeks post op and my weight loss has been stalled since last Friday, hopefully finally meeting my protein goals will give me a boost.

    I HAVE DECIDED!

I was unbelievably scared, but once my surgeon, OR nurse, and anesthesiologist all came to see me before the surgery I instantly felt better. Then they gave me something to chill me out and it was even better. I was wheeled in to the OR, they talked to me a little bit, then told me to take a few deep breaths and I woke up in recovery.
  10. Try making your Dominican recipes using cauliflower rice instead. Rice itself is pretty tasteless, it's the spice you put in to it that really gives it flavor. I'm Italian and LOVE Pasta, but I know pasta really won't have much place in my life anymore. So what's the alternative? Zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash, eggplant. You can still have the flavors you love in a healthier version. I'll admit that I had a few moments where I've mourned food because I realized I would never be able to eat the foods I love in great quantities anymore, but think of the reasons you chose the surgery in the first place.
  11. To prepare my body I did cardio 3 times a week. I have an elliptical at home so it was easy to get it in. I convinced myself that my heart would be stronger and my breathing would be better. Is it true? I have no idea. But I was exercising and it certainly helped me mentally prepare for the surgery. I was TERRIFIED of surgery but I promise when the day comes it's not so bad.. Especially after they give you something to chill out a bit
  12. I was diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus after my endoscopy and I also had no symptoms beforehand. I had no clue that I had acid reflux! The gastro Doctor just put me on Prilosec and it didn't effect my surgery at all. I didn't have ulcers though, I'm sure someone will get back to you about it soon!
  13. I wish I knew about the stomach gurgling! I knew there would be things that my stomach didn't like, I knew you'd be able to tell what you could tolerate, I didn't know it would come in the form of my stomach gurgling and rumbling in protest! It can be extremely uncomfortable and sometimes painful. So far Protein shakes and Popsicles are not a favorite for my new sleeve. Another thing is how hard it really is to get your fluids in. This was all explained to me, but in my head I was like "Psh! 64 oz, no problem!". I'm 9 days post op and can't get 64 oz in yet. And yes, I wish I was warned about the constipation. I would have been better prepared instead of living in agony for days.

    Post-op pain

When I first came out of surgery I was in a LOT of pain from the gas. Once I got to my room and was hooked up to my pain pump I was fine, I pressed that thing every 10 minutes. I did have a lot of pain when I tried to sit up and get out of bed but it was minimal for the most part. The gas was the worst.

    itching?

Yup! I'm itching like crazy! But I have staples in my incisions so I can't do anything but itch around it
  16. I'm officially 1 week post op and down 12 lbs since the day of surgery! Getting in my fluids and protein is really tough. My stomach has been protesting everything I put in it. My large incision still REALLY hurts. I haven't been taking any pain meds because they don't taste very good so who knows, maybe I'd be fine if I actually took something. I think I strained my internal stitches, every cough/sneeze/attempt to get out of bed is very unpleasant. Next week I can start puréed foods, I can. Not. Wait.
  17. I'm officially 1 week out from surgery and down 12 lbs. Starting weight: 268 Weight before Pre-op diet: 255 Weight day of surgery: 249 1 week post op: 237 My large incision is still really painful, I feel like I pull my internal stitches every time I go to sit up or even walk. It's not red, hot, or swollen so I know it's not infected. I'm dreading going back to work tomorrow. Getting fluids in is still tough, Protein isn't a concern right now because dehydration is a bigger worry to me. Hopefully next week is better.
  18. What kind of liquids? I'm on liquids but "full liquids" and my surgeon allows blenderized Soups, Greek yogurt, thinned out cream of wheat, etc It is tough, but I'm only 5 days post op so I have no real desire to eat I just do it because I have to. I definitely couldn't cheat, I'm too afraid to damage my new stomach. At this point I've been on this diet for nearly 3 weeks so one more wont kill me. I am pretty excited for scrambled eggs and tuna though!
  19. and I am absolutely LOSING MY MIND. I'm so nervous that eating today is almost impossible, and I only slept for 2 hours last night. I'm terrified of the anesthesia, terrified of the surgery itself.. it's all I keep thinking about. Tomorrow is a new beginning and it seems so surreal that it's actually happening. I know a lot of others have their surgeries tomorrow, how is everyone holding up?!
  20. My surgery was 12/1, the gurgling has been a huge concern of mine. No matter how small of a sip I took my stomach would rumble and jeeeez it was painful. Thankfully today it's a lot better than it has been which is awesome cause I can finally drink without fear. It's getting a little bit better every day, I just wish I could fast forward a week!
  21. What I wish I had purchased ahead of time that I sent my mom out for today: Gas X strips. So many gas X strips. Some sort of laxative, those narcotics did a number on me in the hospital. I wouldn't wish this pain on my worst enemy. I was allowed zero calorie sports drinks with electrolytes, these have really helped me today. This morning I swore I'd need to be taken to the hospital for dehydration. Water tastes absolutely disgusting right now for some reason so diluting the Gatorade has been wonderful. Different kinds of Soups I can stick in a blender. I'm allowed strained/blenderized soups.. The problem is I went through a couple for I found one I could tolerate Ice packs It's been a trip so far!
  22. Getting in my Protein is near impossible. It makes me gag. I'm trying to mix vanilla protein in to my vanilla Greek yogurt to get some in but, ugh. I had to stop my pain meds because the taste was making me gag, so now I'm sore and crabby. I got in about 40 oz of fluids in so far today, which is a huge improvement. Earlier today I was worried I'd have to take a trip to the hospital for an IV. I'm pretty sure my veins have shriveled up and died. I've been super weak and fatigued but the gurgling in my stomach is lessening day by day which is making it easier to eat. I had planned on going back to work tomorrow but there's just no way I can do it. I'm so looking forward to puréed foods on the 15th! I knew what to expect before the surgery but man, I had no idea how hard it'd be. Anyone who says this is the easy way out has absolutely no idea how hard it is.
  23. It's the same with mine and I was sleeved on the 1st. You don't realize how many things you use your core for! Even just sitting you're still using your abdominal muscles to stabilize yourself. I've been doing a lot of propping myself up with pillows and rolling off my couch, it's still very uncomfortable even with pain meds.
  24. I'm 28 and had surgery on the 1st, I'm 5'5 and down to 240 from 255 before my preop diet. I had lost about 70 lbs a couple years ago and had some loose skin but not a ton, during that time I did a lot of weight lifting and moisturized religiously so I think that helped. As soon as I'm allowed I'm going to go back to weight lifting in hopes that it'll help this time around too.
  25. I'm in a similar boat. I'm 4 days post-op and all I want to do is sleep. I'm really trying to get in my liquids and Protein but it's tough. I think yesterday I only got in one Protein shake (30 grams) and 30 oz of Water. You hear about this phase before you have surgery but you don't REALLY know how to handle it until it's happening to you. This is much harder than I imagined!
