Just had surgery June 8th, would love to chat with people around the same position as I. How's it been going for you? What foods can you eat so far? Are you in any pain still? Have you actually felt 'hungry' yet?

I've made the mistake of weighing myself too much lately. I started working out again this week, and I was curious to see how it effected me. As of yesterday I was down 20lbs from surgery. Today it's showing me up 3 more pounds. 3 POUNDS!!!! I know that the first month our bodies are trying to figure out what's going on, but 3 pounds seems like alot!!! It's my own fault. I know I shouldn't look at the scale. But I've been really overwhelmed with everything and I was just wanting to see some positive movement.

I've been doing zumba and walking. But my stomach is still a little achy at times, so I haven't been able to do it every day yet. Fluids are still hard sometimes. When I drink water I sometimes get a uncomfortable, almost like I can feel the water traveling down through everything, I know that sounds so weird. I've been better the past few days, getting typically six cups on, but I'm still pushing to get my 8 a day. I'm also not loving protein shakes. I ordered some unflavored protein, and some of the fruit flavored nectars and I want to try those in water. Doing the shakes with milk, I don't really like it -
Thanks All. As cheesy as it might sound, I'm just so thankful I found this site. I'm so lucky to have a very supportive boyfriend and family. But as you all know, no one quite gets it if they haven't gone through it. I've been overweight as long as I can remember. And the idea of that part of me being gone in the next couple years, it's scary. Reading and discussing with people who know exactly how I feel is such a relief. Thank you all for being supportive and inspirational individuals. ♡

Why did you choose bypasd?
scarletwitch19 replied to lisa0617's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So far I haven't had a major issue with dumping. I'm only in week 3, but I've been trying lots of new foods and haven't had any major issues (ground beef didn't get along with my stomach though). From everyone I know who has had bypass, I've heard of no major issues with dumping syndrome. As long as you eat what you're supposed to, you will be fine. Dumping syndrome is typically from too much sugar. So when you get to a point that you can introduce sugary/unhealthy foods (if you avoid them all together kudos, but let's be honest, we're all human!) you just need to remember to only try a bite or two, and don't multiple new foods at once. -

I choose bypass for a few reasons. It's been around the longest and there are the most studies on it. Many people have complications with the band, and I didn't want to risk having to do another surgery. And the sleeve is pretty new, so I didn't feel as comfortable since there are less studies about it and the long term effects. Also, my doctor said that on average bypass patients lose a higher percentage of their excess weight than band/sleeve patients. I wanted the absolute best outcome I could get. -

Exercise?!
scarletwitch19 replied to Be_pretty_epic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I LOVE zumba! I bought one of the zumba games for the wii and do it at home at least 40 minutes a day. My goal is to incorporate a 30 minute walk into my schedule before work as well, but I haven't been able to get up that early so far this week -
I agree with Babbs. I didn't use anything I brought except my phone. I did really well with the surgery (at least that's what the nurses kept telling me lol) but I was still too tired and sore to do much other than get up and walk around a few times a day. Didn't read my book. I did have bf help me wash up a little the day after so baby wipes aren't a bad idea. But I didn't get dressed until the last day, was a little too sore. Best of luck to you!!! Keep us all posted

How's everyone been doing?? I'm in my third week postop. Finally able to get all my liquids in, before now it made me feel ill. Started working out again this Monday. Starting to feel a bit more normal again. -
What protein powder do you recommend? I'm hoping to find a tasteless powder I can mix with water/crystal light/etc. I've been doing protein shakes, I have whey protein that I mix with skim milk, and some of the Atkins premade shakes, but I'm not crazy about them. Any ideas on brands of powder? What's in your favorite protein shake?

Wow!!! That's so awesome, congratulations. Keep up the good work! I had RNY on June 8th. Just starting to get back into my normal schedule and working out. Lost 20 so far but I can't wait to start seeing results. Thank you for the protein tip! -
Keep this post going:) Things I am looking forward to (not food related)

Being able to comfortably paint my toenails. Not shopping in the plus sizes. Comfortably sitting in the seat at the movies. Going on a roller coaster without fear of not fitting. Actually feeling beautiful when my boyfriend tells me I am. ♡ -
What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
scarletwitch19 replied to bigjoe102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I began to have some health issues related to my weight (high blood pressure and knee pain). But I think the biggest thing was starting to see myself avoiding going out and doing things. Going to the movies and being uncomfortable the entire time in the seats. Being afraid to sit on plastic patio furniture at parties in fear I could break it. Afraid to go to the amusement park because of embarrassment if I don't fit on a ride. I became sick of making excuses to not go out with my boyfriend. But I think the absolute final straw was when I started going to the gym regularly and eating really healthy and even after 3 months was seeing minor results. It became so frustrating. I'm only 2 weeks post RNY surgery and am already seeing changes. I'm so glad I finally decided to do this. -

I've done protein shakes with milk a couple times this week, but I haven't tried any dairy since the yogurt. I'll have to keep that in mind -

Everyone I know has told me around week 2-4 there is a little slump. You're not doing anything wrong. Try to stay away from the scale. My goal is to only check once a week, but I might try to check less than that. Don't get discouraged!! We're all coming up on that slump soon! Our bodies are still healing and trying to figure out what's going on. It might take them a few days. -

I've heard of that bake from a few people, I think I better give it a try!!! Today ended up being kinda rough for me. I had some yogurt this morning, same as I've done the past few days, and something didn't agree with me at all. I was in the bathroom sick 15 minutes later. I don't know what caused it. I was able to eat some refried Beans since, but it's gotten me a little nervous trying anything new. Has anyone been having any issues getting sick? What foods did you try that caused it? The hardest thing I've found is finding my "full". It took a few days on pureed foods but now I know and I'm not overeating. That extra bite or two can be awful. I had a couple times this week with terrible pain from eating a bite too many. Trial and error sucks, but I learned quick when to stop and to slow down alot more. Despite being I'll earlier today's a better day. I was able to get alot more Water down today than I have. I think I'll be able to get 6 cups in today. -

I've been doing a lot of refried Beans too. I mixed it with some canned chicken and a tbsp of Salsa. That's been pretty good and around 1/3 cup fills me. To up your Protein maybe you could mix some Protein Powder into the beans? I also mixed some scrambled egg in with beans too. Doesn't look too appetizing but at least ups the protein a little. Being around people is tough. I have a graduation party tomorrow which I know will have tons of food, I'm not looking forward to it at all. Maybe by July 2nd you can have some soft Proteins at the bbq, like chicken? Hang in there. Everyone I've spoken with says the first 6-8wks is the worst. We can make it! -

I've had some minor pain, nothing too unmanageable but I'm off pain meds now. I still get a little sore when I first start eating something. I started pureed food Monday. I've been able to do yogurt, canned chicken and refried Beans, that's about it. The Atkins Protein shakes aren't so bad either. I've been having a little trouble getting my Water in. I've been watching to clock and a half hr done eating starting to sip but I still feel like im not getting enough, so I feel like I need to try pushing that more. Has that been a problem for anyone else? I haven't got sick yet, I've also been nervous about that. I haven't felt it yet but I'm worried for if it comes. Emotionally it's been tough. I just went back to work wednesday, so being in a routine has helped a little but I've been pretty overwhelmed. And watching people eat things I can't have has been so hard. I don't even want anything unhealthy, I want to eat grilled chicken and some wild rice. I want to sit at the dinner table with people and feel like im actually eating more than babyfood. I know that will get easier once we can eat normal foods, but in the meantime it's been difficult. -
When did you start working out again?
scarletwitch19 replied to Sara51692's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How many steps have you been getting around? Nothing wrong with starting small. Then if you find that goals really easy and you're hitting it without having to try too hard, you move it up another 1000. Before surgery I got a fitbit and I was sitting around 7000 steps a day and had to put that extra wall in to reach 10000. It's alot of steps to try getting. Since surgery I haven't been able to get there l. I'm only a week and a half post-op and am still pretty tired and sore so haven't been able to get into tons of walking yet -
When did you start working out again?
scarletwitch19 replied to Sara51692's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
10000 steps a day is what the American Heart Association recommends, but that's alot, especially not long after surgery. Maybe set a lower goal, like 5000 to start and continually raise it as you become more active. -
