What's your "weight loss pet peeve?"
scarletwitch19 replied to Elode's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I thought of another one (gosh this makes me sound like I have so many peeves... I really don't think I do!). I had someone tell me "I think wls is great, I just think people need to diet and exercise first". It amazes me how many people think that this is easy and that if you get wls yoy didn't try anything else first -

that has been my biggest concern. Mind you, I have awhile to go until I'm thin. But I have some coworkers that I'm afraid will start trying to be more social once I'm not overweight. :-/ -
My Pre Op Diet Was All I Needed
scarletwitch19 replied to Chuckster's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I think it's awesome that you lost the weight on your own, and maintaining for 4 years shows alot of dedication, so you're clearly on the right track to keep the weight off long term. I guess my only concern is, your posts are making me feel criticized for having surgery. Like many others on this site, I tried to lose weight before. I counted calories and worked out. I've been very active my entire life, but have always been heavy. While I know I haven't made all the right choices, I certainly haven't been sitting around stuffing twinkies down my throat my entire life also. There's nothing wrong with promoting a healthy lifestyle of wholesome foods and exercise, but coming to a wls support group where most of us have already had surgery, and basically telling it was a bad idea is pretty rude. The only thing worse than being insulted for being overweight, is being insulted for trying to fix it! It's great to tell your story to people, there are tons who can benefit from it, but I don't think this is the right venue. -

What's your "weight loss pet peeve?"

my grandma does that. I eat at specific times of the day, and then she'd tell me to eat something an hour later. And even if I said I was fine and explained everything, she wouldn't stop. It was so frustrating. Sometimes I don't know if they do it to be cruel, or mean well and are uneducated on the surgery -

I'm sorry to hear about that. But I really know that feeling too. My best friend was super supportive when I was talking about it and super supportive asking how my appointments are going. Once I was home she came to visit and called me every day was great. And now I feel like she's distance herself from me. Is it because I don't want to go out to eat all the time? Is it because I want to do active things instead of just sit around? I unfortunately think jealousy is a big part of why we lose friendships. I definitely think my friend is someone who wishes she could lose weight, but wouldn't dream of getting surgery herself. Hang in there, I think this is a journey we are we really find who our friends are. -

My mom has invited me over for dinner, then ordered pizza. Wtf. It's as if she's trying to rub it in my face. I also get frustrated when my bf wants to go out to eat, which is totally fine, but wants to go to places that have nothing I can eat. Or decides we shouldn't cook, he wants takeout. Come on. Get take out or go to grease ball restaurants with your friends. I think it's a little insensitive to do that in front of me, especially because I'm only 2 months out. It's going to be tough forever, but eventually we need to get used to being around food we can't eat or social events that aren't ideal for us. But I think it's reasonable to expect the first few months my family and close friends try to think about me when making plans. I feel selfish saying this, but this year is about me and I need to do everything I can to get the results I want. Sometimes it would be nice for a little more support -
"I don't know why you need surgery, you're not that big."
scarletwitch19 replied to Kaye21's topic in Rants & Raves
I think people say that when they don't know what else to say. It's basically their nice way of saying 'why don't you just diet and exercise'. I heard this multiple times too, and I was not a low bmi patient, my high weight was over 300. Ugh. It seems we will always be fighting the battle to prove that surgery is not the 'easy way' -
You know you lost weight when

My pants don't fit anymore!!! I have ran through all the sizes of dress pants I had in my closet. I didn't think I'd need to go shopping already only 2 months out! -
You look fabulous!!!! Congrats on your success. the closer to goal, and lighter we are, the slower the weight loss. Stupid science, making it tough for all of us! You will make it there!!! Only 24 lbs away

Why Getting Sleeved was the Biggest Mistake of My Life
scarletwitch19 replied to a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Actually what the OP said is 100% correct. I was going to get sleeved or mini bypass. They wanted me to go on Medifast but luckily for me my PT (was rehabilitating a knee injury) talked me out of it. When my knee was better I joined a gym that had a weight loss program. They taught me all about metabolism. All any type off weight loss surgery does is restrict how much you can eat and/or causes mal-absorption of nutrients. They gave me the immutable facts of nutrition and how to safely restrict calories. At over 300 pounds is was eating. These were my numbers: Resting (basal) metabolic rate: 3502 calories per day Typical daily activities: 1576 calories per day Total calories burned: 5078 per day I was taking in 5000 calories per day when I should have been eating a whole lot less Resting (basal) metabolic rate: 2026 calories per day Typical daily activities: 1208 calories per day Total calories burned: 3235 per day I increased my activity but mostly I stopped eating the typical American diet and now I will never go back to that vulgar lifestyle. I safely lost weight and my perfectly healthy digestive system is still intact. I'm now eat responsibly because it is the right thing to do for me, my loved ones and society at large. The fact is, like most people I was a glutton. When I admitted that I knew what I needed to do so I did it. It was actually quite easy. ummm.... last I checked this is a weight loss surgery SUPPORT group... not a 'tell us to just diet and exercise' group. That's great that it was quite easy for you, but I'm told enough in society that surgery was the 'easy way'. I certainly don't need to hear it when I'm looking for support. -
Yeah fish is my favorite. Thank goodness I like it! Lol chicken works good too. Just seems everything else gives me a stomach ache.

Why Getting Sleeved was the Biggest Mistake of My Life
scarletwitch19 replied to a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Don't get me wrong, I understand we all make mistakes, I've made plenty already. No one said this journey is easy. But we are all here for support. There's a fine line between venting because you're having a hard time, and trying to get people to change their mind about surgery, in anger and a poor attitude. It's misleading to those new to the process looking for guidance. I apologize if I offended you, but reading this post was very disappointing to me. -
I'm with you! I'm getting a bit discouraged. My scale said 2 lbs higher than last week's weigh in. I know we fluctuate through the week, it's just frustrating don't get me wrong, I see a difference from a couple months ago, but I thought it would be a little faster... eating really good, working out alot, I don't know what I'm doing wrong

Why Getting Sleeved was the Biggest Mistake of My Life
scarletwitch19 replied to a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
To all of you reading this who have not yet had surgery, please make sure one post like this doesn't sway your opinion. I know before surgery I searched for posts and articles of people who regretted it. I wanted to see all sides of wls. But one post is not enough to make the call. If anything, this is a great example of why wls is a huge decision and shouldn't be taken lightly. For the one person who regrets it, there are hundreds more who are happier than they've ever been. I have no issue with people sharing their feelings here, both good and bad. But we are all here for support and reading bad attitudes like this, with clearly little understanding of what lifestyle changes are needed post surgery, are ignorant and misleading. Surgery was the best decision I ever made (and I still have a VERY long way to go). I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't feel the same. You must be doing it wrong.. lol -
we were around the same time, I had surgery June 8th. How have you been doing?

Do you use PB2? What do you make? I was thinking of trying it for smoothies with banana. Any other ideas!? Happy Monday everyone

Mandynette that's fabulous, good for you! Life is great, km so glad to hear how positive you are. Even only 2 months out and still a long way to go, I am so positive, I'm so happy. I'm finding I enjoy working out, I'm in better shape now than I've been my entire life. I've been heavy my whole life, my whole family is heavy. I never thought things could get so great. -

Looking for other newbie friends!
scarletwitch19 replied to Mandynette's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi! I had RNY June 8th. I can't believe it's been almost 2 months. My surgery weight was 338 and I just hit 299 this Monday. Amazing feeling, I've been stuck in the 300s for the past 3-4 years. I still have such a long way to go, but I feel great. I haven't felt this good in years. I have so much more energy! -
I'm almost 2 months out. I'm just curious how much people are eating at a meal. The food plan they had me on said around 1/2c, but I know the next plan i will move to said eat up to 1 cup. I've been finding I am eating around 1/2 to 3/4 cups, but it seems to depend on what the food is (I seem to eat more fish than chicken or beans). I know the next plan says 1 cup, that just seems a little high and I'm scared of stretching my pouch. How much is everyone eating? Do you find it is dependent on what type of food?

Do you eat Yogurt? What brand? What sort of toppings do you add to it?
scarletwitch19 posted a topic in Food and Nutrition
Do you eat yogurt? What brand? What sort of toppings to you add to it? It seems like everything but plain yogurt has a lot of sugar in it! I'm getting a little sick of yogurt, but it's such an easy Breakfast while I'm at work I want to keep eating it. I just worry because all the mixed yogurts seem to have alot of sugar in them, even if low calorie. I'm hoping to try mixing it up a little bit. Ideas??? Happy Friday everyone! -
What do you eat in a day? How many calories are you getting in? I'd like to see breakdowns of others' typical food in the day. I'm 7 weeks out (HW 352 SW 338 CW 306) and on the soft food diet. I workout around 1hr, 5x a week. I'm having trouble getting enough calories in. My nutritionist never gave a specific on calories, more focused on Protein however based on everything I've read I'm thinking around 800 calories would be reasonable. I'm not a big fan of shakes, especially mixed with milk, so I think this is where I'm losing some calories. I mix my powder with 0 calorie crystal light so they only end up being around 115 calories. This is a typical day for me, foodwise: 630 am Protein shake 930 am yogurt 12 pm chicken and/or Beans 1/2 cup 3 pm protein shake 6 pm chicken and/or beans, with a tablespoon of veggies 1/2 - 3/4 cup I've been tracking with my fitness pal and I'm getting around 600-650 calories a day. I know this isn't enough, especially with how much I'm working out. What does your day look like? Are you able to get enough calories in? If I'm working out an hr/day is 800 calories enough?

I did it. I mess up. It happens to us all, I know I shouldn't beat myself up. I tried to eat something crummy for dinner. It was a quesadilla with cheese and chicken. I don't know what I was thinking, I just gave in. I ate 3 bites and felt super sick my stomach hurt so bad, so I stopped and threw it away. So I guess that's a good thing at least, I couldn't eat it. I'm just mad that I gave in. Things have been going so well! This week was the first time I've actually seen results. I'm always so hard on myself, but I can't ignore that I'm wearing clothes that haven't fit the past year. I should be thrilled! I've just had someone at work who claims to be supportive, but ends up saying comments that come across a little hurtful. And it's been eating at me for a few weeks. I can't believe I let someone make me feel so bad. I never thought I'd feel like this again. :'(
