Gerd or gastritis before RNY surgery

My surgeon also said I needed an RNY when I first told him my preference was a sleeve. He explained how my GERD would be worse with the sleeve. I'm almost 6 months out and haven't experienced any heartburn or acid reflux since surgery. After 6 years of daily medication I have been previcid free since day one after my surgery.
  2. I use wide head bands creatively and I also invested on a partial wig that I use with a headband. My hair blends in quite well. I've been thinking of buying a couple of hats now that cold temps have set in. My fingers are crossed for it to grow back. I have lost a lot. I'll check out toppix too. Thanks. Do I find that at, Sally's?

    Setting Realistic Goal

Thanks, yes, my weight at surgery was 318. I have always wondered what it would feel like to be "normal", whatever that is. To think that weight loss is becoming a reality is a lot to wrap my head around. Ive been praying my whole life to lose weight and it is now happening. I'll be happy to learn what normal will be for me. I know it's not gonna be a number and like you said it's the experience of living life in a new way with a new attitude that is gonna be the measurement of my success. I just wondered how others have done. It's been 61 years.. So it's hard to "imagine". Oh and I love John Lennon too! ????
  4. Hello everyone. I was wondering if I could get some feedback on what to expect. Because I have been obese my whole life, I have no idea what I should weigh. I would be interested in hearing about how much those of you that are a year or two out have lost. I know we are all different. I never talked about goals with my surgeons office. I am 61 years old and had an rny on June 24th. Pre-surgery weight was 318. Current weight is 236. So I'm down 82 lbs. Yay, not complaining! I am only 5'1". What can I hope for? I think my lowest adult weight ever was around 210 when I was 15.. I really wish I could get to 150. Is that unrealistic ? How have others done that kinda have similar stats?? Don't know what to expect...

    Post op 2 days

I'm 4 months out. I still have the strange noises in my stomach. I kid around and say it sounds like an alien in there! But everything is fine. I'm down 70 lbs. So I am not complaining. No problems and nothing hurts. All my check ups have been fine! I'm so happy I did this!! I was wondering if I wasn't taking small enough sips or if I was getting air in my stomach??

    It's official 100 Lost

Wow.. Awesome????. I had my rny on June 24th and am down 70 lbs. I started at 312 and am now 242. I'm 61 yrs old and only 5'1". I've been worried that my wt loss has slowed down too much. I'm only losing 2 to 3 lbs a week and sometimes none. I have only just started to walk because I have arthritis in knees and ankles. I was wondering if you could share an example of what you eat in a day and whether you are exercising. I know everyone is different. I've just been worried that I might be doing something wrong. Your success is inspiring!! Congrats!!

    CRAVINGS ....

I can't handle Aspertame. It gives me bad headaches. I also was tired of just Water all the time. I found something that feels like a treat to me. It's Glaceau Vitamin water zero. (Squeezed lemonade flavored). It's better than other flavored waters I've tried. Zero calories and only 4g of carbs. It's sweetened with stevia leaf extract. I love it! But be careful with their other flavors. Some have a lot more carbs. If you like lemonade you will like this!
  8. First, good luck and best wishes for a successful surgery tomorrow. I had my rny June 24th. a Wednesday and came home Friday evening. Worst of pain was the first night. It was well managed with pain meds. I wasn't hungry at all. All focus was on sipping water and didn't even finish the broth and jello they gave me at meals. I had catheter through the first night. They took it out the next day. The nurse helped get me to the bathroom. It wasn't so bad. Just moved slow. I really did feel a lot better the next day and got up and walked. You got to move.. It helps with the gas discomfort. Every day gets a little better. It wasn't easy but it's bearable. First days home I really had to force the fluids. Really liked sugar free popcicles. I'm a wuss when it comes to pain so I was not ashamed to take my liquid pain medication. That helped a lot. I didn't have a regular bowel movement before I came home and was quite relieved when that finally kicked in. I still have to take something to keep me regular You will be surprised how quickly those first days go by. Congratulations on your new beginning! Let us know how you are doing!

    Tired All The Time!

I'm about 6 wks out. I too am tired all the time and sleeping a lot. I've lost 30 lbs. I had doctor appt and found my blood pressure was very low. Pre-surgery I was on 2 different BP meds. They took me off one and I'm monitoring my BP more closely. Eventually may be off both. I'm still tired but not quite as bad.
  10. Try the hospital pharmacy and also Walmart had it for me. Good luck!

    Surgery Date June 24th

Happychica101.... How are you doing?. Just thinking about you and the other late June surgery buddies! We are 3+ weeks out. I'm still on puréed foods. 2 oz. three times a day. Sometimes I feel a little down because food was a big comforter to me. But it passes. I'm feeling so much better every day. I'm drinking two premier Proteins a day and taking my Vitamins so all is well. Clothes getting loose. Down. 31 lbs. Yay! Hope everyone is doing good and hope to hear from you soon!!
  12. Thanks! Good idea, laughing cow cheese. I need to get some unflavored protein too, I think!
  13. Hi! Surgery date: June 24th. Doing good. Trying to make sure I do everything by the book. Starting puréed today. All your suggestions are very helpful. I had question about the refried beans at this stage Do I heat right out of the can, as is, or do I add broth? And can I just use shredded cheddar to melt on top or does it matter what kind of cheese. Also with scrambled eggs. Do you make them then purée?

    Surgery Date June 24th

How are my fellow June 24th friends doing? I'm feeling better every day. I've been following the plan and logging everything. Still on full liquids through Sunday. Two ounces, 3 times a day. Mostly strained cream of chicken Soup. I made an ice cube tray of this and beef broth. Also used ice cube tray for Jello. Drinking Premier Protein drinks. I also bought cocotein fruit punch flavor Water which I liked before surgery but now find super sweet. I'm doing better at getting all my water in. Still a little sore but I can't complain. Not really hungry which is so surprising to me. I still think about the junk foods now and then but it's not unbearable. I'm learning about my new little stomach, can't believe two ounces fills her up! Having some issue with bruising and swelling where I'm taking blood thinner shots in my lower stomach. I was worried because there were hard nodules under these massive black and blue marks. I went into surgeons office to have them checked. They said I'm just a bleeder. But to put ice packs on them and watch to make sure they don't become painful. All my incision spots are looking good. I'm very happy with the surgeons work! Weight was slow going first few days. Full of gas and fluids. They said it's normal. But I'm 12 lbs down since pre-surgery weight so I'm happy! Hope to hear from you all soon!!

    Not sure why

Hi all! I had my surgery 4 days ago. All has went well. I wanted to let you know that I am 61 years old and have had arthritis for the last 7 years.a result of my obesity. I have never taken NSAIDs because of other medical concerns. Other pain medications work just fine. As for worry about other medical problems that some have experienced, you have to take in to consideration that there is much more knowledge out there now than there was 10 years ago. With the help of the Internet and sites like this we are better informed about what we need to do to be successful. Even the specialty of bariatrics is much more advanced. I am planning on following the letter of the law when it comes to my new life. I have never been a "normal" weight, even since kindergarten. That's as far back as I can remember. In these few short days I can feel the difference. I have no hunger. And even tho I know it may return some day, I'm gonna fight for my life to take care of my new little friend. My new stomach!! I've been given a chance to live a new life, even at my age. I gotta lot of living left to do! ????????????

    Surgery Date June 24th

Happychica101, I would love to stay in touch too. This has been a day of reflection, nerves, and a lot of ????????! For today my surgeon just requires light eating and took magnesium citrate this morning at 8. I decided myself that I wanted to eat lite yesterday.. Just had Soup and Protein drinks. Today I'm just drinking cocotein and Water and some broth tonight. I cannot believe this time tomorrow it will be done. A new beginning!! Our journey to a healthy new life begins. I have been thinking about my lifetime struggle. It's been painful and also insightful. You learn a lot about people. Can't wait to cross my legs..take a walk thru the woods in the fall.. Visit family in Mexico and seeing the sights.. Never had the energy to do those things before. I go to hospital at 9, surgery at 11. You will be in my prayers. I'll definitely keep you posted! So excited????. Good luck!!!!
  20. Good luck to all you June 22nd's! Positive thoughts and prayers are coming your way! I'm right behind you on the 24th!
  21. Feeling excited and anxious! The countdown to the 24th has begun. Been going through some old clothes that have been too small for years. Can't believe I will be able to wear them again. It's sinking in that I will be able to enjoy life in a whole new way. Good luck to everyone. Let's keep each other posted on our journeys!

I've got my surgery date 6/25/15.

I have mine on June 24th. I go for my pre-surgery meeting this morning. I am required to take my support person with me. We go over the procedure with surgeon, meet with nutritionist ect. I had all my pre-surgery medical tests last week. This surgeon doesn't require the liquid diet before surgery any more. They used to up until a few months ago. One of the questions I'm gonna ask is what is the best diet and foods I should be eating between now and the 24th. I have already given up soda and coffee months ago and I have pretty much been sticking to high Protein, low carb diet. Although I have had my moments.. I am so excited. Can't believe the day is around the corner. Keep me posted on how you are doing!
  23. I also suffer from bad acid reflux. I've taken previcid for years to control it. When I had my first appointment with the surgeon I told him I hoped to have the sleeve. He told me that because of the acid reflux I should have RNY gastric bypass. My surgeon isn't known for his bedside manner but he has a reputation for being a good surgeon. Is there a local support group you can go to? Where I live, we are required to attend one meeting monthly while we are going through the process. I have found this to be a great source of information and support. Sometimes the bariatric practice has a contact person you can call with questions or concerns too. I would reach out to them. I first started this process a year ago and I finally got my surgery date June 24th. Hang in there! And good luck!

    Surgery Date June 24th

Fellow June 24th. RNY'er! My name is Helen. I'm a newbie too. I'm also excited, anxious and a little bit of everything. But I started this journey a year ago and I'm so ready!! I can't believe it's gonna happen. I am 61. I have been overweight/obese since childhood. Most of my current problems are orthopedic. Hurts to walk but thank God I can still walk. I also have sleep apnea and high BP. I tried to do this 15 years ago but my insurance wouldn't cover it. I go to a support group that has peeps ranging from 20's to 70's. They have had amazing results. Sure there have been bumpy roads, I'm going in with my eyes open. My surgery group no longer does the liquid fast. But right now I put myself on a low calorie, high Protein, low carb diet. Time seems like it's flying right now. I'm so ready to be able to walk with my grandkids, go places and do things with my friends and family!!! I would love to stay in touch and be of support as we start our new life on the same day!
