  1. I had the mumps when I was four, nearly died, and was very, very skinny. At that point, it became my mother's mission to fatten me up, and she was successful. food meant love. Even as I kid, I was eating "Farmer's Breakfasts" with eggs, bacon, sausage, and toast. Sandwiches always had a ton of Hellman's mayo, cheese, and salami. We had homemade potato salad with lots of mayo in it. We even had a side of mayo with our homegrown tomatoes and cucumbers. Mayo. That is one quick way to add some serious calories. My whole family was large. Also, my father used to say, "eat up kids, you don't know when the next meal will be." That mantra stuck with me for a long time, despite acknowleging it and rationally observing it has no basis in truth.
  2. For a reward, when I get to goal, my husband and I are going to stay at the Hotel del Coronado (oceanside of course)! For an experience, I'm going to wear a bathing suit in public! You all are giving me more great ideas!
  3. This was an interesting set of comments to read. Today was my first day back to work since my 6/22/15 surgery. I didn't expect (or want) any comments as no one at work knows about my sleeve except my boss, and because I am also up and down and all around with weight. For the future, I think I'll much prefer "you look great!" to "have you lost weight?" I'm going to take that to heart myself when I compliment others. I LOVE the answer above to "how much have you lost?" "Just enough to be sassy." I can't wait to use that one!!!!
  4. I won't miss hurrying over my pool shots because I don't want my butt or body on display. I want to be a sexy pool player. I can relate to the heat. I have to keep turning down the thermostat at work, and I tell the normal sized folk to put more layers on because they don't want to see me take any more off. Better days are here and even better ahead!
  5. Approximately two weeks post-op. Anxiously anticipating pureed on Thursday.

That's awesome, congrats... it gets better everyday. Someone told me that while I was pre-op & I didn't believe them but it is true.

  7. What an ordeal for your family! I hope your daughter continues to steadily improve! ❤️
  8. Buzzy Lizzy - I had mine on the 22nd with Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Martinez. They did five total that day. We all did well. I don't live far some San Diego so I was home Wed. evening.
  9. First - these are all great reports and updates. I'm on day 2 and you all are making my stomach hurt from chuckling. Thank you!
  10. Dr. Ortiz told us yesterday a straight forward sleeve is 30 minutes! I was in recovery for 1.5 hours.

  12. I see mixed information on this topic. Do most people need one for the gastric sleeve? Trust me, I've read a ton on the procedure, but I'm confused about this.

    Surgical Drains

I guess I'm feeling panicked today, with four days to go and lot to take care of. I just did a search on the website, and found more mixed info. I guess "drain or no drain" is about as varied as the "pre-op" diet requirements. Just ignore me (after you give me a virtual hug). I'll ask my surgeon on Monday. It is not like I'm not going through with this.
  14. I can't wait to be a post-op poster. FOUR DAYS!

I like those words...."post-op". Tomorrow I'm going to pick up some drinkable yogurt and a few last minute things for post-op. Almost there!

  15. Thank you for asking this question. I will be leaving for TJ on Sunday, with surgery Monday, and I wondered the same thing. Good luck to the original poster and all of us.

Way to go Kushka!! You DO have this!!

  17. Hang in there! I'm slated for 6/22, and I'm sorry you were bumped a day. I thought I'd be less hungry after one pre-op week but not the case. The countdown continues! ????
  18. Day 8 of pre-op protein shakes. I could scarf a pizza.

How many more days do you have to go? Just keep thinking of how much you want this! and how dangerous it could be if you don't follow doctors orders!

Well then you are over half way there, it would be a shame to waste all the hard work you have already done by messing up now! Keep going, you'll be fine.

    To Tijuana and Back!

@JamieLogical I'm glad things went smoothly for you. We are getting picked up at the San Diego airport at 4:00 pm this Sunday, so things may go timely for us at the Marriott. I hope we get a room with a window, lol. We are spoiled in the United States. My hubby is going with me, so we will keep the same room the whole week which will simplify things for me. I'm so glad to have the info from peeps on this website!!! One week today for me for surgery!
  20. I did search on this forum and on google. I don't think my new onset right eye twitching is from stress, so it could be lack of magnesium. I hate to add one more pill to my growing medicine list. Did anyone else else experience this?
  21. Thanks for the replies. One week to go before surgery. I leave for Mexico on Sunday. Feeling worried about this and that (work, not meeting surgery weight loss goal - four pounds to go, going under the knife, etc.), so that is great advice to pray, sleep, and get a massage. I am getting a facial on Wed.

    Surgery tomorrow!

Good luck, good luck! I know I'm going to be anxious one week from today. Keep us posted.
  23. I will keep you posted! It was much better this weekend. Maybe my eye twitching is stress-related as I have a lot to do at the office before I take my two weeks off for surgery. However, I did buy a magnesium/zinc/calcium Vitamin to supplement as well.

    To Tijuana and Back!

Very informative! Thank you. This is the first time I read anything about waiting on rooms at the Marriott. I'll now be better prepared for that.

    Best protein?

A lot of the recommended powder ones seem so sweet to me since many have Stevia in them which, sadly, i don't care for or another sugar substitute. I hate all the vanilla ones that my nutritionist recommended. However, luckily, I do have one favorite (I'm currently on day 6 of my two-week pre-op Protein shake prep): Dymatize Elite XT Extended Release banana Nut. It is available on Amazon.
