The 6 month wait is made by the insurance companies, not the surgeons. I believe it is not to save money, but to see who can withstand the change in lifestyle. They do not want to spend the money on someone who will give up, as this is only a tool and not a miracle cure. There are people that cannot make the full 6 months, and if they can't, they definitely will not be able to hold on for life. It's a perfect time to prepare and to work on the mental and physical aspects of a lifestyle change. Changing your diet, mindful eating, etc.

I had appointments at 12:30, 3, and 4. I didn't see anybody else while I was there. Are you at the pt Jeff office or riverhead?

@@dragonflylady- I am between 40-41 bmi with no comorbidities. My surgeon told me to maintain my weight until it is submitted to insurance for approval. If I drop below 40 they will not approve it. I have my final weigh on 8/3, then it gets submitted, surgery is scheduled for 8/14, so NUT said to start the pre-surgical diet on 8/3.

Hi Dina. I am scheduled for surgery with dr Ahmad on August 14th. I was in the office on July 1st also. I have heard nothing but good comments about him and his office. My coworker was sleeved by him on May 6th. My sister in law is scheduled for Aug 17th.

I currently am yoyo-ing between 40 and 41 bmi with no co morbidities. I was told by my surgeon not to lose any weight until I weigh August 3rd because my insurance requires 3 months of weighs and if I lose I will be under 40 and I will not qualify. After that I must lose before my August 14th surgery date. The insurance companies will not approve under 40 unless you have a co morbidity. Then it's a minimum of 35.

Got my date yesterday. I'm scheduled for August 14th as long as insurance approves my weights. Final weigh on Aug 3rd, then wait for approval. Keeping my fingers crossed. If they make me wait until Sept it will really screw me up.
