My doctor told me to never eat celery because it is to hard for our small tummies to break down. It doesn't brother you?
-
I had problems with eggs early on, now at 5 months I have no problem with them. I just can not eat more than about one egg. It does sit on my tummy heavy that is why less fills me up faster and I have found that if I eat more than that I am very uncomfortable.

I am able to eat what I want when I want. With that being said, now I can eat one bite of a chocolate bar and give the rest to my kiddos and never feel that I am on a diet as I don't want anymore. A few M&M's, a Jolly rancher as I am working out. Whatever, the difference is I don't eat a whole bag of candy or whatever. Just a few bites and I am done.

A shocking confession... (Warning - That may be a slight overstatement).
grandmaofone replied to KindaFamiliar's topic in Rants & Raves
I weigh every morning and have since the seminar I went to on Jan 8,2015. This is when I started my journey. I know that some days my weight will go up or down. But on the days that I see it go up or stay the same are the days that I work harder at the gym or push myself. I sometimes weigh several times a day. I want to know how much water I am drinking, how much my clothes weigh, my shoes, etc. The number on the scale is a lot smaller than it was when I first started and when it goes down I love seeing that my hard work is paying off. But either way, I know the weigh that I have dropped is not going to come back if I continue weighing everyday, because I push myself at the gym if the numbers go up. With that being said I am all for weighing everyday!! Even if you are not losing it means you are not gaining and that is success, as you look at where you came from!!???? -
Your insurance will only pay for one surgery and with the lap band there might be a time when you have to get it removed. I would go for the sleeve as there will be no other removal surgeries. I was in your shoes and the dr and I talked for a long time and agreed that I would Benefit more from the sleeve. With my busy schedule this meant that I don't have fills to get and other follow ups. Just a follow up at one month, 3 months 6 months than once a year. And I am actually have my surgeon forward my care to my family dr at a year. My family dr is closer and has better hours than my surgeon.

I did it! ONEderland!

Good job!!! -
I had the surgery for things other than just the weight loss.I seldom went to bars before surgery. When I looked at the menus, most of the foods are fried. I was asking so that I can prepare myself and make better choices. That's not setting myself up for failure; it's setting myself up to make the right choice with some advice from others. i have had a cheese stick or two and have not had any issues with it. I just limit the amount, and not eat two or three plate fulls anymore. If you take a few bites then wait a little bit before you eat anymore so you can see how your belly reacts. I will say, I only eat them every so often. I can pretty much eat anything I want, but now the difference is I eat to live, not live to eat???????? have fun and enjoy your new found freedom!!!

I am not going to update mine until it is time. I don't look nothing like the picture, but I do weigh about what my licenses says now????????????????

FINALLY found a way to break a stall!
grandmaofone replied to Jewelgirl04's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have had several stalls and every time I get so frustrated!!! I am in one right now!!! I went back to Protein shake, 20 oz Water, a protein for lunch(2-3oz), 20 oz water, Protein Shake, a protein for dinner(2-3oz) and I have been kicking my butt at the gym. Last night 1.75 miles on treadmill and 7.75 on stationary bike. Today I woke up and weighed, finally got past the 191.6-190 mark by hitting 189.8!!! I was so excited!!! I normally do weights every other day, I think I am just going to hold off on weight training for a few days and just burn as many calories as I can for the next few days then add weight back in. Hope you all found a way to be positive and keep journeying along. -
I stall at least once a month for a week or so. I am typing I am feeling the same way. Nov 18 I dropped to 189, then I gained a few pounds and just now got back to 189. I will lose for a week or so then stall for a week or two. It frustrates me to no end!!!! Please don't feel like your the only one!!! There are times when your mind needs to slow down and process what is happening. I am right here with you!!! If you would like to talk further please message me:)

I have been to gym everyday and still in stall!
grandmaofone replied to grandmaofone's topic in Fitness & Exercise
When I went to the gym last night I went 30 mins on the treadmill which was 1.75 miles with cool down. Then I got on stationary bike and went 7.75 miles and burned more calories than I ate. I got up today and weighed myself and I lost 1.4 pounds. I think I am going to stop working on arms and legs for a few days and just get back to burning calories so that I can lose a little then add back in my arms and legs. Thanks everyone, as I thought I was the only one who would lose for a week or two and then stay within a pound or so for 3-4 weeks. It is different for each person and I know this, but some of us are somewhat alike. Thanks for showing me this. I have weekly phone calls with the nut from my insurance and he is trained in the sleeve, and he has helped me meal plan and make sure I am getting enough Protein and my Vitamin levels are good with my meal plans and what levels I am taking orally. Best part is, it is all free through my insurance. Also I got my blood work back today and all the levels that they checked were all within the high side of normal!! I think that this is awesome since I still can not eat but about 1/4-2/3 cup of food per meal:) -

grandmaofone replied to grandmaofone's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Doesn't sound like you are getting enough protein in, hence the reason why your body isn't giving up the weight. Can you make an appointment specifically to speak with the NUT? I am getting over 60 grams of protein with just my Protein drinks which is the amount my nut requires. I have a book that my dr's office requires us to read and understand before they will do surgery. I looked it up again today and they said 60 grams, which means any and all I get from my food is extra protein. Highest weight:265 Surgery weight:240 Current weight:190 I have been doing good, but I go a week where I lose a lot of weight, then go a week of two without losing. Then I change things up and start losing again. Currently I have been in a stall for two weeks going on three this week. So I joined the gym on Friday instead of going as hubbies guest. Worked out almost everyday so I can get the scales moving again!! I am excited with losing 75 pounds and knowing it will never come back on. I am pretty comfortable with the measuring and weighting out food. I have a favorite bowl that I use and that is it. I love my small bowl because I don't have any problems with over eating even a bite, I believe the bowl must be a little smaller than my pouch as I eat and am full and satisfied. Hair loss, more than half my hair is gone, but I feel better and look better so it does not really bother me. I would do this journey all over again:)

I had trouble the first few weeks. I would cry one minute and be laughing the next and the dr kept changing the dose of my anti-depressant. I was an emotional roller coaster, but I am now 5 months out (76 downs down) and off my anti-depressant. I am now only on my vitamins and a stool softener. You will feel much better after your mind realizes what is going on, just takes a month or two. Hang on and enjoy the ride as when you get to the downhill side you will enjoy!!!

I weigh daily also, but I love to see the 1 in front of the number. I have hit so many stalls and said, oh well, it will eventually move. The scale keeps me motivated and has kept me going as I have seen it go up a pound or two or down .4 a day I think to myself I have come so far!!! You have to be willing to see where you have come from. When I step on the scale I say 265 and then it says 190 and I am automatically motivated to work as hard as I can for the day. Maybe changing your routine while you wait for whatever milestone your waiting on will help you reach it. Just don't ever feel let down when that number goes up, as sometimes it will!!!! Think about your starting number before you read the number on the scale, it helps show overall progress!!!! -

my budget is what is holding me back. I would love to get rid of all my XL and go shopping but it is going to have to wait till after Christmas and personal property tax at end of the year. -

I lost 75 pounds before I bought new bras, just got them this weekend:) I told myself I only have about 25 pounds till goal so I should be able to still wear them as it is really just toning and some belly fat I still need to lose. -
I NEED to break this stall, help needed!
grandmaofone replied to retzlpa's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
First off sleeved June 15, 2015 Starting weight:265 Surgery weight:240 Today's weight:191 I had just a few problems after surgery with getting sick. Recovery was good and I was on smashed foods when I was released from the hospital. I was eating a spoonful of refried Beans with cheese and sour cream for about a week and half then added other foods as tolerated. I had trouble finding a Protein shake I liked after surgery and have finally found one that I can handled. I take my Vitamins and stool softener at night. I forget my Calcium all the time:( I just had my blood draw and everything came back in the normal range. When I was about 6 weeks out I hit a stall.....I stayed the same weight for about 3 weeks. I got very frustrated and I changed everything up. I added 10 mins to the treadmill(45 mins total), stationary bike for 20 mins and then started some leg exercises as my tummy was still a little sore. I upped my calories a little and would do treadmill and bike everyday, legs every other day. Then I would drink my Protein Shake right after I worked out. I would eat about an hour before I worked out. I changed what I was eating to only protein and did this for about a week. It helped a little. I have hit several stalls since then and tried all these things since and they haven't helped. I go a week or some and not lose then lose a few pounds. I might gain and then lose, I have been hovering at 191.5-189 for three weeks now and I can not seem to break this. I think that if you keep doing what your suppose to do your body will eventually realize and the scales will move again. My best advise is clean out the pantry and fridge. Get rid of any and all temptations and find a Protein Bar and Protein Drink to use after workouts/when your starving and that will help with the cravings your having if you are. Good luck and enjoy the ride. Sometimes the stalls help you realize where you have come from, and let's your mind caught up with your body changes!! -
What does "success" look like to you?
grandmaofone replied to Nibbler's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can walk, exercise, and get around a lot better, and now prefer to be moving. I can see my shoes and tie them by by squatting down. I can wear a size large, and feel comfortable. I am off every med I was on before surgery. I can keep up with my daycare kiddos easier, and my 18 month old grandson! I went to forever 21 and bought normal sized bra's and found some clothes. Love shopping anywhere! I am was not the biggest person at Thanksgiving dinner! My hubby can wrap his arms all the way around me! My three teenagers take my clothes, and I jokingly put on their medium sized shirt and could get it on(although it fit like a glove, 5 months ago I had trouble turning them right size out folding clothes!!!) I love that my grocery shopping has become easier and cheaper as I don't bring anything that I would not eat into the house. Which has made my kiddos make better choices. I can cross my legs!! I am already at my goal size pants and working on the last 25 pounds! -
My first day wearing a size large shirt and pants
grandmaofone replied to grandmaofone's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
a little of both, don't want to look like a ballon in clothes that don't fit right, but everyone says they do:) -
I was sleeved on June 15 as well!!! Congrats on the weight loss!!! My stats were: Starting weight:265 Surgery weight:240 Today:190.5

Here is a picture of my yesterday on Thanksgiving, giving thanks as this is the first time since maybe middle school since I have worn a size large!!!! I was so excited/worried when I bought the yoga pants earlier in the week that they would not fit. I bought them as motivation as I was in a stall. Most people wear their fat people clothes on Thanksgiving, but I tried them on and they FIT!!! I was excited!! Then my family(mom, dad, aunt, oldest daughter, grandson) showed up and they all said that I was doing awesome!!! Gave me some motivation and encouragement like never before since I am normally a Yoyo dieter. But I got a little bit of everything and shared my plate with my 18 month old grandson. I think he actually ate more than I did!!! I had the best holiday, got in two 15 mins on the elliptical and it was not as hard as I thought it would be!!! Hope everyone else is doing good also!!! First Thanksgiving with the sleeve
grandmaofone replied to sbg224's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I loved being able to cook without sampling everything as I went. I got a small spoonful of everything and still shared my plate with my 18 month grandson and no one really commented on my eating and the way I have lost my weight(surgery). I loved talking more than eating!!! My biggest accomplishment of the day, WEARING A SIZE LARGE YOGA PANTS!!!! I have not worn a size Large since middle school(about 25 years ago)!!!!!! -
Do all Doctors require two week liquid preop diet?
grandmaofone replied to Sleeved Nurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I only had a one day liquid diet before surgery. But i did have a diet plan to follow two weeks before but it was very reasonable. It depends on weight. The dr wants your liver to shirk so they don't nick it durning surgery:)
