So..........6 month check up
grandmaofone replied to grandmaofone's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
As I had the personal trainer kicking my butt, I also am frustrated because he (the dr)asked what happened and I said the scales didn't move for about a month and he said "put the food down". My normal day is: *A cheese stick, if needed for Breakfast *three pieces of shaved ham and piece of cheese rolled up for lunch *dinner is a Protein and very small spoon of veggies. *one Protein shake after my workout at nite I don't think I over eat!!! I am so mad and when I told my hubby he didn't say anything and I just cried!!! -
Social butterfly after surgery?
grandmaofone replied to RollingRing's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have started going out more, went to the baseball game a few times this year, and I like going places where I can walk like out door malls or big stores like bass pro. I love that I can walk and get around easier without being winded or tired after. I walk with my daycare kiddos when the weather lets me. We walk about 2/3 of a mile on our walks. Plus right now I am about 20 pounds from goal so I am going to the gym everyday except Sunday's. I use to send me last kiddo home at 6, fix dinner and eat, then lay in bed the rest of the night because I was so tired. Now I send my last kiddo home, leave for gym, shop or run errands and by the time I get home it is 9:30-10 so I do go to bed, but now it is because I was at the gym for two hours. But I would really like to start making more friends as I really don't have any close friends because my hubby is a preacher people only get so close to you. If is just a part of the job that people don't get to close because they are afraid you are going to move on, see their faults, etc. I don't look at it that way and I wish others didn't also. -
I have just made a Non-Scale victory about 2 months ago. I now consider food a source to live, not live to eat. I made this by discovering that when I take my daughter and 18 month old grandson out to eat, I get to enjoy feeding my grandson and spending time talking to everyone else instead of stuffing my face. This gives me the freedom to talk and enjoy everyone's company and no one says things like "are you sure your done". It is amazing to sit at the table and enjoy company than to be stuffing your face and not talking. You are pretty early out but you will notice things after they happen a few times. Good luck and hang on it is a roll coaster of emotions the first few months!!!

Officially 100 lbs gone forever!
grandmaofone replied to leag78's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats!!! That is a big day, in a smaller body for sure!!!! -
i have been going to planet fitness since I was three weeks out of surgery. I used the treadmill until I felt comfortable doing more. I was going as my hubbies guest. Three weeks ago I joined so I could start working with the personal trainer(free with black card) I start my actually training Wednesday of this week. He will help me to figure out the settings on each machine so I am using it correctly. Also he will figure out the weighs that I need to be using so that I am not over doing it. I am going to stick with the trainer and use him as much as possible to get toned and to my goal weigh and maintain the weigh for awhile before I change anything up. Then I will consider the y because I will be able to use the pool and not feel like everyone in the place is starring at me. Also by working with the trainer and having him check me every so often I will know I am lifting the correct weight and doing the correct form. After about 6-8 months of working with him a believe that I will know every machine in the gym and how to use it correctly. I have met him the trainer twice and told him he was going to be stuck with my for awhile. So hopefully my plan works and then by the middle of the summer I will be ready for the pool!! BTW, my stats are HW-Jan 2015(seminar Jan 8) 265 SW-June 15-240 Today-187 So I have loss and hopefully the personal trainer can help get the last 22 pounds off as my goal weigh is 165.

when do you feel normal eating again (small portions still)?
grandmaofone replied to denisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on June 15, my dr had me eat some refried beans before I could leave the hospital. I was on puréed before I left the hospital(dr diets very) I could eat like 3 pea sized spoons and was done. Now at 6 months out I can eat just about anything and just because I can doesn't mean I do. Now I look at certain foods and just say no because I don't want to be on the treadmill another 30 mins because I ate a certain food. I run a home daycare and for lunch if I can't eat what I fix them I simple get out the lunch meat and a piece of cheese roll it up and eat it as my lunch. I don't have a problem going out to eat or whatever because I get to talk more to everyone and get to feed my 18 month old grandson:) I am not going to complain about getting done early because it gives me time to enjoy myself and others. Before I would be to busy stuffing my face to real talk or enjoy others durning meals. So just think ahead and you will see the many blessing you will receive and enjoy. I feel as normal as I did before just healthier and making better choices!!! Hope this helps you feel that there will be a normal again, maybe just a different normal!!????☺️???? -
I had to have a psychologist approval, 6 monthly appts with a nutritious, I could not gain weight durning the six month time frame. Then two weeks before surgery I had EKG, Chest X-Ray, and blood work. All pretty normal when you are having surgery.

grandmaofone replied to heartofthetinman's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Normally it is the opposite problem. Not going for days. I have to take a stool softener everyday. -
I was sleeved 6/15, down 77 pounds. I was lucky to only feel bad at the hospital and after I came home was all good. I love that the new me can speak up now and not stay hidden in the shadows, as my hubby is trying out for a new preaching position after we took sometime off when our oldest daughter had a baby at 17. She and baby are doing good and just moved out around the time of my surgery. Now it is time to get busy being God's hands and feet again which is much easier being lighter!! God bless each one of you and I pray your roller coaster of a ride goes as smoothly as possible!!!

Congrats!!!! This is one of those NSV that is an awesome feeling!!!

They said "weight just fell off me" what does that mean really?
grandmaofone replied to Lexuskela's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The first few weeks I lost a lot, I have hit many stalls since. I am 6 months out now and have been in a pattern of I lose for about 2 weeks, about 2-4 pounds then the scales don't move for two to three weeks. So I guess it is up to your body how it is going to handle all the changes. I workout 4-6 times a week and put great effort into losing. I hope that you do not feel as though you are only because I did with my pattern of losing, but when I posted about it several other people were close with similar patterns. Just think were you came from and were you want to be and it will keep you motivated. HW-265-Jan 2015 Surgery date-June 15 Today weight-188 -
your son is correct and very wise for his age. Shows that you did a good job raising him!!!! It is only two more days and I know that you will be tempted but think of the long term goals you have!! You can do this!!!!

I run a daycare and have lots and lots of lights outside hooked up to a box that plays music and the lights blink to the music!! CHRISTmas is my favorite holiday. I can not post pictures because lights are always blinking, but people drive by my house to watch and listen!!????????????

I just started taking potassium because I have this problem, but I am allergic to banana's and also if I were not the sugar level would be to high and it would make me dump. Might want to start slow if you decide to eat bananas.

Tummy made of steel. Nothing offends. However I mostly avoid fried foods because it's a slippery slope for me. I have had grabbed the occasional 1 when with friends, but I will not order a full order for myself. I see reading the thread you figured out a work around. I would suggest in events like this carrying along a Protein bar in case of emergencies. My doctor told me to never eat celery because it is to hard for our small tummies to break down. It doesn't brother you?Celery and raw veg in general don't bother me at all. I've had them since maybe 6 weeks post-op.guess when I go to dr next week I will ask again. I miss eating celery:)

Whoa! Where'd did the "guts" come from?!
grandmaofone replied to MrsKarenC2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That sounds like my story, but I have not really gone out anywhere like that to have that experience, but after reading this I am looking forward to it!!! Congrats!!! -
You can eat most all foods after. I didn't have a chance to eat anything as I was camping when I got the call to schedule surgery and my pre-op appt was the day we came home, which was less than two weeks out. I started my diet that day. Which was 6 days from the date of surgery. I could eat a small Protein based meal and two Protein shakes a day. I can now eat about anything I want, just in smaller sized portions and I really don't "miss" anything. When I look at the piece of pie or whatever I see hours on the treadmill and don't want to have to workout any longer than I do(which is about an hour and half a day). That makes motivation a lot easier to STAY away from those items:) Good luck to you, I look forward to hearing your journey in a few weeks!!!

Kansas city area sleevers?
grandmaofone replied to laceygorrell's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on June 15, I am down 76 pounds!! Have not really had any problems since coming home from my very rough hospital stay. Dr. Price was my dr at St. Luke's on the plaza. I really like the office and staff, they really get you ready for the surgery and after. -
time it takes to eat
grandmaofone replied to journeymeh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I run a home daycare and can not take more than 10 mins to eat, so I normally have some sliced lunch meat with cheese roll it up and chew, chew and chew more. For my dinners when I eat I take about 15 mins but it is hard because my lunch is so rushed. I have gotten sick in the beginning, maybe twice. When food gets stuck, my doctor suggest taking a drink of a carbonated drink. Sounds weird, but it works. My doctor also said two foods to stay away from is rice(because it clumps up) and celery(because our tiny bellies can't break it down). So you might want to steer clear of rice if it is causing you problems. -
There is one protein shake I can handle and I have spent a few hundred dollars trying to find one I can handle, for a while I just did without. It is made by Beverly and the name on container is UMP. If you fix one scoop in a blender bottle with 10oz of water it just taste like chocolate milk. I shake it about every other drink and I can actually take my time drinking it as it does not gag me. I have tried about 30 different drink and wasted a lot of money, so hopefully you can tolerate this one like I do.

I am laughing that I just commented on this a few days ago and last night the lady at the bank asked me for my license. First off my picture that is on mine license was taken after I was in a car accident and was still recovering from breaking almost every bone on my right side. I was still very much swollen as well as being heavy. I covered some bruising around my nose with makeup. I swelled probably about 10-15 lbs on top of the 265 I was(now 188). Now on with the story, she asked to see my license, she looked at it and me a few times. After she paused I told her I recently lost a huge amount of weight. She checked my signature a few times and it matched so she did the transaction. I didn't think that I looked so different until this. Maybe it is time to drop the extra $20 and get a picture taken?!?!? Still laughing and debating!

I'm Still Not Comfortable...
grandmaofone replied to o00's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Mine is how I look to others in the clothes I wear. I am currently in a size large or 13/14 pant. I always feel they are too small for me. Actually the yoga pants are starting to get big around the waist where I have to keep pulling them up when I am on the treadmill. But I came from a size 24 pants and size 2X-3X shirt. I feel like when my clothes are that small they "expose" to the world that I have not lost enough. I know it is all in my head since I am down a grand total of 76 pounds, and everyone compliments me on how good I look. I know it is all in my head but that is what I am not comfortable with:)
