grandmaofone posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Kansas City Mo area Help!!!!!! Who did you have surgery with and did you like them. I had my surgery on June 15, 2015. Our insurance changed and now Dr. Price from St. Luke's on the plaza is not covered. I need to find a new dr to go to for follow ups and want your opinion. Who did you see and did you like the office staff and the doctor??? -
My insurance changed and dr who did sleeve is not covered:(
grandmaofone replied to grandmaofone's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
i already called the insurance company and was told that they would not cover any of it, as they are out of net work and I talked to supervisor and a manager both told me "No":( They said you only need your blood count done so your family doctor can do that. If it had been closer to surgery they would have allowed me to see them up to my 6 months. -
I don't know how to add anyone because I haven't done it before! Mine is Cawthon5@kc.rr.com, feel free to add me:)

I had mine out at 6 months out(12/29/15), I was down 80 pounds and had a stone the size of a manderian orange. I had a little pain with laying down and getting up from laying or sitting but only took day of surgery and a long lunch the next day off of work. By the third day it was really just the itching and the allergic reaction(to the strips)that was bothering me.

I had sleeve done on June 16, 2015. Gallbladder removed 12-29-15, had the same pain as you have described, but I don't eat enough for it to have hurt after I eat. Mine was really bad when exercising, it would start on ribs and than go to side and back. By the time I was done I was holding my side. They took out a stone the size of a manderian orange and a ton of smaller stones. My gallbadder was twice the normal size.

Gall bladder taken out after sleeve?!?!?
grandmaofone posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had an ultrasound on my right side on Friday and they found out that my gall bladder is very full of usually large gall stones. Had my sleeve done June 15, down 80 lbs but it hurts to exercise because of this. Anyone else have their gall bladder out after sleeve surgery. I have a large pain threshold but I am very nervous as I have always just taken Advil after surgeries and never the pain meds they give out. Any advise on there on this subject? -

i run a home daycare and that is one reason why I had surgery over Christmas break!! I am to cheap to pay someone to step in, so my kiddos and hubby did:) I took my kiddos shopping and they got two shirts and two leggings for helping out. I am the worst boss ever!!! I had everything planned and in folders for each day, they just had to carry it out day of surgery:) -

Ok everyone, her is an update. Had my surgery on 12/29. Stayed in bed sleeping most of that day, but that was because I stayed up late cleaning the house and my home daycare room that night. The next day up at 6 to get kiddos and then took a nap when they did, I had someone here to cover me. Third day was a normal day, day care was basically empty and I was just having alittle pain as I was getting up or down. Went and got the stitches out on January 5 and he released me to do whatever. I picked up my grandson and was fine yesterday, last night I went to the gym and could do almost everything I could before. The stationary bike hurt a bit so I only did 15 mins on it. But I am doing good. -

It has taken all day for this to sink in!!!! Thanks everyone!!!!! -
I had my gallbladder taken out last week, on Tuesday. I had only one pair or yoga pants and then one pair of leggings that were to big that I had not gotten rid of yet. I was doing laundry everyday so I would have something that was not rubbing the incision on my belly button. I was talking to my daughter this and she ran upstairs and brought me down a size Medium yoga pants. I held them up but was still very swollen so they looked like they were not going to fit. Today when I got up laundry never got switched so I had no choice but to pull them out. I started to put them on and I was very concerned. But I pulled them on and they FIT!!!!! I was so happy I did a little happy dance and it wasn't to try and get the jeans up!!!!! The BIGGEST NSV for me yet!!!! I can wear a size Medium and they are not like a second skin, I have some room in them!!!!!

Praying for you to get to go home and that you will be healed. Just keep your spirits up and look to the future!!! -
I was very short tempered to the point no one wanted to be around me because I was a ticking time bond that just never exploded, but was always on the verge. I sat up a counseling appt also I go tonight. But since about the middle of December I have had to bite my lips sometimes so my responds don't come out right away. I am trying to take the time to think before I talk and think about what my hubby would say to the kids(2 emotional teenaged girls, so lots of hormones flying around our house????). I have told them if I walk away without saying anything it isn't because I don't love them it is because I love them enough to not speak at that moment. I also had my gallbladder removed a week ago, so between hormones flying and some pain the first 5 days I haven't really asked any long winded question and neither have they. It has been one bumpy roll coaster ride of emotions for sure!!!! Good Luck to you!!!

Could You Repeat That Order?
grandmaofone replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in Food and Nutrition
I always repeat my order two times and make sure they have it. I then explain to cashier that the reason I don't want......is because it is an unhealthy choice. I also will double check receipt to make sure it is typed right. Normally they have to call the manager over so it exposes them to reality and healthier choice and I have had some restaurants change the menu and add healthy choices!!! If everyone would do it it might actually change the menus!! I say confuse them and they will change!!! -
Gall Bladder Removal for Roux-en-y?
grandmaofone replied to ForeverHealthy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
if you have stones now with the rapid weight loss you will just have more, I would try to get your dr to take it out now. Less strain on your body because one less surgery on your body later on!! -
Gall Bladder Removal for Roux-en-y?
grandmaofone replied to ForeverHealthy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the sleeve on 6/15 everything was going good until around November I ended up having my gallbladder removed on 12/29 and wished my doctor would of just took it out at the time of surgery. It would of saved me from having to have another surgery and recovery. If your dr will take it out out the same time do it!!!!! -
Veterans....#1 thing you miss / don't miss
grandmaofone replied to Kindle's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I miss being able to go to a fast food restaurant and knowing what I was going to order. What I don't miss-sitting back and watching everyone else laughing and living in the moment, and me sitting on the outskirts. I don't miss shopping for a shirt that fit and buying one in each color because I felt it was the only one that fit. I don't miss all the extra laundry loads as both me and my hubby were way over weight. I don't miss sitting around and having noting I wanted to do because I hated walking around. I don't miss all the conversation I missed out on as I was stuffing my face. I don't miss the dr always telling me I needing to lose weight or face possible medical problems. I don't miss having trouble getting up and down off the floor, chairs etc. I don't miss having to have the seat in the van pushed back as I was to large to have it at a comfortable position. I don't miss feeling guilty after I ate a whole bag of cookies, chips, ice cream ect. I don't miss any of that as I have an 18 month old grandson to live for and three amazing young ladies I call my daughters to live for. The only thing I wish is I would not have waited so long to open my eyes and "see" what I was missing and should have done this earlier!!! Good luck to everyone starting your journey and hold on it is a rollercoaster of emotions and feelings!!! -
I had Aetna and called them at the end of December of 2014, they gave me the number of a few dr's that preform surgery. Called and set up a seminar with a dr after I did a little research. Seminar was on Jan 8,2015, went to 5 months worth of appts. Dr summited paper work a few days after my sixth appointment around the end of May. I was going on Vacation and they said I would hear back when I got home. I actually got the call while I was still on vacation scheduled my pre-op appt and testing while on phone and surgery was 1 1/2 weeks later. They got back to Doctor within two days with approval and I had nothing expect a BMI over 40. Follow all directions and make copies of all paperwork so you know the dr office has summited everything to insurance. Ask them to go over paperwork with you at your 4 monthly appointment to make sure you have all your ducks in a row!!! It helps when they have it all early! Good luck!!

I guess I was "lucky" and having gallbladder issues, which caused my dr to want to take it out asap(had a stone the size of a manderian orange) and lots of smaller ones). I was having trouble eating anything!!! I was told no gym until my check-up (1/5)as my surgery was on Tuesday 12/29. I did manage to keep losing weight as I really couldn't eat any solid foods. I was sleeved on 6/15-down 87 pounds and am eating protein first and very little of anything else.

Gall bladder taken out after sleeve?!?!?
grandmaofone replied to grandmaofone's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Today it is just my belly button and right around it that hurts. I sneezed today and I didn't feel like I was dying so I believe it is heeling like it should just takes some time since they mess with your muscles when making the small incisions. I am hoping to go after CHRISTmas shopping today since I was so busy getting ready for my surgery right after CHRISTmas. I still have a little swelling but I have lost 3 1/2 pounds since surgery so I am sure most of the gas is out of my system now. I go on Jan 5 for my post op check and hopefully will get released to go back to the gym. I know I will have to start over and work my way back to where I was at the gym but hoping it will go faster since I was very active this time before my gallbladder was removed. #timetogetbacktowhereiwas #nomorepain -

grandmaofone replied to bugsy72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am six months out and still can only eat about 1/4cup of food per setting and I am still on the potassium supplements, but I just take it when I take my multi Vitamin and I don't think twice about it. I have really bad cramps at night when I forget so I will not be trying to go off of them anytime soon. -
NSV Buying clothes the 'NORMAL' way
grandmaofone replied to RaginCajun's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I love being able to find things at the stores where I shop for my daughters like, Old Navy, Forever 21, & Rue 21. And I find they are much cheaper, which is a bonus in and of itself!!! So glad that you will be able to update your closet without breaking the bank. Congrats!!!
